Hey, at least we've gotten that promised update to TSMM they've been saying for the last 17 years they could do.
If only they'd fix the screens which are all pixelated with lavender static. I used to ride Midway Mania all the time, now, I go on once in awhile and when the ride's gameplay doesn't work, I just turn down the opportunity to ride again. Why would I want to play a broken game twice?

I guess I don’t notice the “lavender static”, so don’t know the defect you’re talking about. But maybe they have fixed it, because at least in that clip it looks clearer than I’ve seen it in a long time. So maybe give it a try if you do go during the 70th.

Was there video posted of the game footage on-ride? That clip is pulled directly from the game engine but the "lavender static" is an issue with the screens/projectors. It's a hardware issue.

Thanks for clarifying that, then no not that I know of. But again maybe it’s been fixed, I guess we’ll need someone’s first hand account of it to be sure.

As I mentioned it’s not something I’ve noticed in the past myself.

Castle flame throwers still have not returned for wondrous, I wonder if they are still on the roof or have been taken away?

Tapestry of Happiness (the Small World projection show) also premiered last night:

Unexpectedly misty eyed by the end of this show. How I wish this were expanded a bit on Main Street as a new fireworks show; it captures so much of why folks still consider RDCT to be among DLE’s best.

The show was soured a bit for me with the lack of the Country Bears- which normally wouldn’t be an issue since they’re not in the park anymore, but the show also features the Carousel of Progress, which also isn’t in the park anymore. The Country Bears were in Disneyland for 29 years and returned last year with their new restaurant (and one could argue they never left since their meet and greets still appeared sporadically and they had cameos in various parts of Critter Country), meanwhile the Carousel of Progress was only in Disneyland for 6 years. You can’t say they didn’t include it because Walt didn’t work heavily on it because Big Thunder is in the show and Walt didn’t even know that was going to happen, he at least came up with the idea for the CBJ and saw the concept art before he passed.

And yet Disney decided Carousel was a bigger part of Disneyland’s history than the Country Bears? It feels like they never include the bears when it comes to celebrations of their history, and outside of this new show, they don’t really give them any love. No merch, no inclusions in nighttime shows… maybe I’m bothered too much by this but the Country Bears ARE important to the park’s history and I wish Disney understood that.

Honestly I wouldn't call that featuring CoP so much as it was just honoring the Sherman Brothers, who arguably have a huge impact on the Park and its history, with one of their more recognizable songs. I mean its not like they featured any of the show unlike the other attraction references.

And yet any Disneyland fan who knows who the Sherman Brothers are would know what the Country Bear Jamboree was.

@Charlie The Chatbox Ghost has a really valid point.

Disneyland fans will know the music either way, but the random people in the audience (which is most of the audience) would have a far better chance of recognizing the music from an attraction that existed in the park for 29 years from 1972 to 2001 than they would recognizing the music from an attraction that existed in the park for only 6 years from 1967 to 1973.

That said, this Small World facade show is my favorite part of the 70th so far. The rest of the 70th seems to be 2010's retreads, cheap and underwhelming stuff like "cavalcades", empty theaters and buildings in both parks, and TDA selling a whole lot of plastic, tacky looking crap made in Communist China.

We'll have to wait two more months for the delayed (oddly) Walt show to reserve final judgement on the 70th. But so far, as a longtime Disneyland fan I am extremely underwhelmed by the 70th.

Fair- I couldn't see it quite well but I did see the brothers and assumed they were surrounded by iconography from the attraction. Still though, I think my point stands- if it were a show only about Sherman Brother songs, then CoP over CBJ makes sense, but they had PotC and HM, X. Atencio/George Bruns works, and they did the CBJ's original songs, not the Sherman Brothers. I dunno, I'm just a big CBJ fan who wishes they were included in stuff like this. They could've given a few seconds to the bears and the show wouldn't have been negatively affected by being slightly longer.

I'm not saying they don't have a valid point with regards to the exclusion of the Bears, I'm just saying that it really wasn't about the CoP show itself but really was about the Sherman Brothers. It really was just a nod to the Sherman's impact on the Parks, that is all.

Also its not like Disney hasn't added references to the Bears recently into DL, so I think they are honoring them even if not as much as some would like.

And on top of that, the bears are back in the park! You can walk a few minutes from Small World and go see paintings of them and hear their music.

But the CBJ are extremely prominent in Disneyland's overall history and even today- they were the first franchise to get their own dedicated land in Disneyland, before even Mickey Mouse. They were the first attraction to get seasonal overlays. The Country Bears were featured in holiday stage shows and TV specials, they were the first major attraction to get a movie adaptation, they were the original franchise that Splash Mountain was going to be themed to (Moonshine Express). After their show ended, they still featured in Critter Country through paints and portraits in the land's various shops and restaurant, and the mounted head trio could be seen in the Pooh ride. Now today, they have a restaurant heavily themed to them and Bayou Country's new tagline is Bear Country's original- "a honey of a place." Bayou Country cast member outfits have a bear on them instead of a gator.

The Country Bears were Walt's "Last Laugh". They deserve far more respect than they get- if even just being included in these park celebrations. Carousel of Progress is fantastic and important too, don't get me wrong, but looking at both attraction's overall impact on Disneyland's history? One is bigger than the other.

Looking at the weather out in Anaheim this weekend, it's going to be unseasonably cool for the 70th kickoff. Even a good chance of morning drizzle on both Friday and Saturday. 🥶💧

Bring a sweatshirt or light jacket if you are going this weekend!
