The only Disney star wars lightsaber sequence I will put in with Lucas star wars is Darth Vader rogue one.

Because it got the ethos right

Disney has really struggle with that. Only glimpses
I’d say Skywalker in Mando season 2 got it

Few and far between otherwise

That one is incredible. as @Sirwalterraleigh says. The fact that Disney learned almost nothing from the mistakes Lucas made with the prequels, is the biggest problem.

And this is why I’m so hard/not having it.

Very public mistakes and backlash. No nuance there…

So to make further mistakes - as has happened - was intentional.

There’s no “how was Disney supposed to know?” That gets blamed on the evil, boogieman toxic fanbase (you…me…and 3 other guys)

The word is hubris. Intentional failure.

The prequels have issues, but they still have the best action scenes we have ever gotten in SW.

Also, watching ROTS again, reminds me a lot of Endgame the way it tied everything together really well

ROTS is the best conclusion episode of all of the trilogies.

They clearly ran out of ideas for Jedi so we got another Death Star and another family reveal.

ROTS is the only case where they had the entire story mapped out and saved some plot developments for the finale.

The bad acting doesn’t tinge it for you?

And you should read/watch the back story of Jedi…

Because what was produced was amazing considering how badly it was run.

The director couldn’t direct…and George didn’t bother to write the script until ilm was well into sfx production.

It’s a miracle it turns out as solid as it did

Yes…I know…Ewoks…

Yea, I'll defend Return of the Jedi till the cows come home. Ewoks and all. Lol

It might not be the best star wars film, but it sure is my favorite.

I think in many less tangible ways it was the best film…but not overall.

Anyway…the dumbest thing that’s happened since 1999 has been the gag where commentators trash it in Defense of prequels and/or Disney…

It didn’t go down that way…and revisionist history is a diversion tactic used by the weak

I've never heard people trash ROTJ outside of the ewoks. I doubt those people were even alive in 1983.

Actually if I feel like doing a deep dive…there’s been a ton of shade thrown its way…

Even at that time…in normal pre-digital stupidity - conversations would throw a lot of shade…Hamill was criticized…

But the reality is - as later stated by Irvin kirshner and frank Oz - he was the emotional backbone of the Franchise. Really carried them.

Marsha Lucas…who was maybe the most key figure in the whole thing…gives unlimited praise.

And Ewoks and Death Star redo. All legit criticisms.

But the performances even on a patchwork Lucas/kasdan script were very good on the whole. McDiarmid in particular…
But hell Alec Guinness told the entire prequel story better in 2 minutes than George and star stool pigeon McCallum could in 8 hours 🤪

But opinions vary. The look and feel of Jedi…in particular…is the emotional anchor of what actually made Star Wars last and allowed sales in the bazillion range. It should be held on the top shelf just for that.

I don’t see how the second Death Star was lazy. What would you have done instead?

This is at the heart of it. Return of the Jedi "star wars-es" better than any other star wars in my opinion. It took the imagery from the previous films and added things like speeder bikes and scout troopers, new aliens and ships... that all felt like they've always been there. It's just so good.

It was pretty lazy at the time

So if the little guys blow it up…ya double down?

That being said…I think their intent was to just make a more professional looking upgrade of ANH…when the process didn’t allow it…

A lot of that stuff…just speaking from my memory…blew our minds on a new level

The reactor chase just made up for the lame trench run (but I’m harsh)

And when she blew…I think the common sentiment from the audience was they’ve never been so happy and sad at the same time…

Never in a million years would you have thought the road would go from there…

Ahhh…memories like the corners of my
Mind

Return of the Jedi is a fun movie but nostalgia goggles stop some people from acknowledging it's flaws.

It has a great finale, and generally sticks the landing, but for some reason they didn't think they could tell more story. They rescue Han and attack the Empire and that's it. Maybe if Luke had flirted with the dark side it would have had more substance, I don't know.

There's some really cringe moments. The scene where Han gives C3PO a list of chores and then immediately demands he hurry up is a painful piece of "comedy".

They went cheap in some places and it shows. See Lando walking towards what is clearly only a painting of the Falcon. It gives the movie a low-budget vibe at points.

Nonsense scenes like being caught in a net feel stupid. Jedi master Luke can't get out of that? Hand me my light saber? Is there, I don't know, a way for a Jedi to get his light saber without touching it?

Some bad acting from Fisher and Ford. The former was high at the time and the latter had clearly checked out. It diminishes audience immersion.

Well in any bureaucracy, if you can fund one Death Star, you might as well fund two.
Disney does it all the time with rides.

At least the Death Star made sense when compared to Star Killer Base.
…that’s a great line from the movie Contact

Starkiller base as in one the dumbest ideas ever from a completely awful reboot?

They should have made the Sun Crusher ship and have Finn turn to the dark side as he attempted to use it on the First Order. Rey could talk him out of it.
