I'm not against improving traffic flow at the Emporium, I just really wished they did a few things to truly improve the Emporium experience:
  • Relocate Casey's to a larger quick service location between Tomorrowland and Main Street bypass (or replace Tomorrowland Terrace
  • Transform form Casey's Spot into Pin Shop
  • Create a permanent indoor bypass on West Main Street.
This emporium update will improve flow, but not that much.

There is something about the design of these interiors that gives off the vibes of an old department store barely limping along into the 21st century. Perhaps it's the mix of old and new aesthetics and materials the don't entirely seem from the past or the present and large empty areas where you can imagine that back in its heyday there used to be shelves packed with merchandise.

I would agree with that... almost like there is just too much space... It would be nice to create a bypass that would be beautifully themed and then condense the retail into a theme appropriate turn-of-the-century themed shopping arcade... rather than scattered open areas for bypass... The arcades at DLP are beautiful and make so much sense...

I agree. My first thought looking at the new photos was - "There are still some bits of charm left, but I'm sure those will be removed at some point". The overall feeling I get from this is... you guessed it - Just more blandification. Zero charm. Zero character. For Christ's sake - PUT SOME COLOR IN. White, off-white, beige, and brown with bright white lighting is so god-awful, not to mention overdone is seemingly every corner of the resort now. This feels like it was designed by a 22-year old fresh out of college. Maybe that was the mandate from management?

To think that this is the same company that made the fanciful and creative Fantasy Springs Gift shop that opened just one year ago is really truly crazy. Yea they're funded differently etc etc but how do they not see the value in theming the most visited theme park on earth?!?
Not a single thing about this refurb will make people more immersed, eager to return, or feel like they got their money's worth

Casey’s was never designed to be the only quick service in the area - that’s the problem.

At Disneyland - Coke corner is literally right next to Jolly Holiday and across the street from the Corn Dog truck and Plaza Inn.

At WDW - we lost the bakery with no replacement (at Disneyland when they added Starbucks they also added jolly holiday so they didn’t lose the bakery for the Starbucks) and we have lost Tomorrowland Terrace. That’s why there is so much crowding at Casey’s. It’s an easy fix. But they won’t do it.

Passport to dreams had a great article about MKs dining capacity concerns in the earlier years and how they added so much around the park, and now it’s all taken away. Adding to what you already mentioned they also currently have no QSR in Adventureland, further adding to the overcrowding on MS

I didn’t realize Jolly Holiday came to be when the Starbucks was brought in. What was there before?

Does anyone have before / after photos of these areas of the emporium? It’s hard to fully judge the photos but it looks much more plain and basic then how I remember the emporium?

What in the McMansion Hell is going on here? The shape of the space and the (faux-)structural elements in it make absolutely no sense. Yes, this is a renovation of an exisitng space, but before adding superflous adornment they really need to look at how the space is put together. It's just so, so bad:

And this is all before we talk about finishes, like the trendy tile floor that already looks dated, the mismatched wallpaper, and the unfinished(?) column. The whole space is such a mishmash that it really feels like nobody was talking to anybody else and there was no one person who was actually "in charge."

An art would really tie it all together.

Also, hooray for Bluebeam!

It looks very...... Sanitary. That's good right?
Absolutely not. It is more de-theming. As Disney used to be known for, it can be meticulously themed and also squeaky clean. It does not have to look sanitary to be sanitary. (Think Adventureland.) Be it does have to be themed to be a theme park.
The Emporium on Main Street, USA, should look like a turn-of-the century shop — not like an Apple Store or Target.
