People cared a lot more about Will Smith and what he did. Slapping Chris Rock for no reason seemed insane.

Not many people care all that much about Zegler. In fact, I’m starting to think no one cares about her more than you for some odd reason

I agree that Will Smith's bizarre behavior and his immediate fall from grace was a bigger deal than Rachel Zegler.

But just for fun I went and Googled "Rachel Zegler", and at 6:30pm Mountain Time on April 1st, 2025, almost two weeks after Snow White debuted and promptly bombed, the front page of her Google search is full of a whole new batch of mainstream articles today about people in Hollywood who really dislike Miss Zegler. They seem to care.

Just look at a few of today's headlines... Oof!

"Ariana DeBose Seems To Slam Rachel Zegler..."
"John Lennon's son calls Rachel Zegler a 'spoiled, ungrateful brat'...."

"Danica Patrick shades Rachel Zegler..."

The point is that the public seems to have largely forgiven him, and he was able to come back from an even worse issue. So to say that she can't for what amount to a lesser offense seems to put a double standard where one doesn't need to exist.

The public has a real short term memory for this stuff, in time they will forgive and forget about this too. Most actors with talent always seem to find a way back after a scandal, its only those with no talent that end up getting past over (and complain loudly when they do). And by all account she is talented, so I have no doubt in my mind that she recover from this just like those before her.
Will Smith was still one of the biggest box office stars in the world and was about to win the AA for Best Actor. They started from vastly different places when their respective scandals happened.

According to my Google, Will Smith has starred in 54 movies and made over $9.5 Billion in box office from them in his movie career over the past 32 years. o_O

Except she is of mixed race, so its not just self-identification. She is both White being Polish and Latina being Colombian.

For the last 25 years the Census has allowed mixed race identification for ethnicity.
But, as the folks at UCLA’s Latino Policy & Politics Institute point out, “Latino” is not a race, and attempts to conflate these distinctions has minimized the Afro-Latino community. She is not “mixed race”; she is White with Latina ethnicity.

You can lecture us all you want, but don’t demean the perspectives within that community.

if there’s anything Hollywood is known for its not treating young actresses as disposable and offering them quality roles well into their 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s.
Well the likes of Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Mae West, and Katherine Hepburn (just to name a few) had long careers after being labeled "box office poison" in the 30s and 40s seem to disagree with that. And what did they all have in common, talent. A talented actress can overcome a scandal, a non-talented one doesn't. And the ones you're talking about are the ones with no talent.

And that maybe, the point is it didn't end his career as many claimed out on the interwebs it would. So again an actor/actress can overcome a scandal if they have talent, and by all accounts Zegler is talented. So again I have no doubt that some producer/studio in the future will be willing to take a chance on her again for a major role, maybe even Disney.

I'm not lecturing nor am I demeaning anyone. You brought census into this, so I was just pointing out the flaw there as that for 25 years they have allowed picking more than one race to allow for mixed race/ethnicity.

Even in the article you post they acknowledges that even the OMB (which sets the rules for the US Census and all federal surveys) in all future federal surveys including the Census they will now recognize Latino/Hispanic as a race.

"On March 28, 2024, the OMB announced several critical changes to federal surveys that inquire about demographic characteristics, including the adoption of a single-question format to ask about race and ethnicity. In this format, all federal agencies will adopt “Latino/Hispanic” as a co-equal racial category instead of recording it as a separate ethnic origin, as it has been since 1977."

So while I get the point of the article and agree in some regards, especially to include other questions about ethnicity, the OMB will at least for the foreseeable future (unless it changes policy again) recognizes Latino/Hispanic as a race, especially for the 2030 Census.

So by federal standards adopted in 2024, she is White Latina, mixed race.

All of those actresses, as well as Will Smith, were far more talented than Zegler. Her core talent is singing, and doesn’t have anywhere near the dramatic of comedic range of those others you mentioned.

Does her perceived talent overcome the PR headaches? Time will tell, but not looking good now!

I disagree on the critique of her talent, but do agree that time will tell on her future prospects.

I don't know about your theaters, but we don't get showtimes at any of ours for the upcoming weekend until Tuesday afternoon. ETA: The exception is new releases that would already have presales, etc.

To follow up on this, it looks like Snow White is sitting at 1 screen/theater this coming weekend in my market. Its reported theater count will probably still be in the high 3000s as a result, but the decrease in showtimes continues to be real.

Meanwhile, Minecraft is opening with as many screenings as Brave New World had, which has chewed into the pool of available screenings for a bunch of mid-tier movies, e.g. Black Bag, Novocaine, Mickey 17. In Disney release news, 20th Century's The Amateur gets a handful of pre-release screenings this weekend to try to generate some buzz for next weekend's official release.
