Pinocchio, yes. Because the Blue Fairy was played by Cynthia Erivo. It already did when it was just released to D+.

While I’ll give you that them casting a black woman with a shaved head as the Blue Fairy was probably Disney at or near the height of what would be perceived as their wokeness I don’t think that on its own would have done nearly the same damage. First of all the Blue Fairy is not Snow White nor is she the lead. The character is literally described as being white as Snow. But really what did the most damage was Zeglers comments so unless Cynthia was about to go off like her then I would say no it would have not been nearly as bad. It still would have bombed though as the movie sucked.

The question is if released to theaters would either of those movies gotten the same hate, and to which I say yes.

If you don't agree I'm ok with that. But given that Pinocchio got hate after its release on D+ for Erivo's casting, I expect it would have been worse than what it got on D+ had it been released to theaters.

It’s pretty clear that most of the hate is due to Zeglers comments so I’m not sure how you reach that conclusion but ok.

I think its a whole host of factors, I can't say that her comments are number one.

But again I was just answering the question on its face. And I truly believe, given the hate it already got just by its release on D+, that had it been released to theaters it would have gotten the same hate as Snow White has gotten just for different reasons.

Correct. Snow White hate preceded any comments, and TLM hate involved no comments at all.

The common denominator is obvious to me.

Obviously Snow White's IMDB rating is part of a review bombing campaign. I'm certain most of the people rating it 1 star out of 10 never actually saw the movie. I

There are a lot of valid criticisms of the remake, but there is no world in which Snow White 2025 comparable to similarly low-rated movies like Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2.

Clearly, have people at Disney who have no idea what they are doing.
I think they have people that know what they are doing, its just not resonating with the public. That just means they need to adjust and move forward.

Stories like this have a place, even at Disney. I think given enough distance people will come to realize this is not a bad film, its just not the same as what previous expectations were, and that is ok. The original is still there, and so is this adaptation of it, both are valid and both can exist.

If Disney released Pinocchio or Peter & Wendy to theaters, would they have gotten all of this hate?

Pinocchio was definitely the Internet punching bag for a bit. Which it deserved every bit of.

It wasn't to this extent, but Pinocchio only confirmed an incredible lack of competence as the people making it showed they didn't understand super simple concepts. There wasn't any open bashing.

Lots of stars dis things they were in. The difference is it's not before the movie is released. Also notice how the Russos didn't say they hated the character. He was never their favorite. You know who else thought cap wasn't their favorite? This guy. But guess what? The people making and staring in the film turned him into a favorite. That didn't happen with snow white.

Quick question, did any of those happen during the lead up to The films? Lots of stars dis things they were in. The difference is it's not before the movie is released. The people making and staring in the film turned him into a favorite. That didn't happen with snow white. That video is way off base, at least the part you highlighted. It seems there's a lot of desperation to justify her comments for some reason.

It really is fascinating. There seem to be some people that refuse to accept reality for whatever reason. It would also appear that some very like minded people are working over at the bomb factory (Disney) also refusing to accept reality.

Yeah, I remember hearing about Twilight and GL. For Ford who knows? Probably, but there wasn't the internet or social media back then.

What about the video is "way off base" specifically?

I'm sorry, but some of you are obsessed and are giving this:

2017 Beauty and the Beast for me was exactly how you do a live action adaptation. I'm not sure why they feel the need to change a formula that worked. It did $170 million opening weekend, $350 million globally and 1.2 billion in total box office.

Yep. If you are going to waste time/energy/money on these remakes then the best thing to do is to go as close to the originals as possible with maybe minor additions/changes here and there to better explain things or make more sense. The main point in doing them is to draw heavily on nostalgia and people's love of the original so doing things that explicitly distance those previous films serves only to alienate the audience.

If your opinion is that the "audience wants something new" then you sure as heck shouldn't be making films like this.

The answer was none of them. All those referenced were well after the films were out.

See above. That segment is in no way the same situation as snow white. These are all situations looking back in retrospect. Zeglers situation was during active promotion for the film. It's not the same thing.

The only obsession is this ridiculous notion that Zegler didn't do anything wrong and it had no sway on the film. You can like her as an actress and still say, yea she really shouldn't have said that stuff during active promotion of the film. The fact that so many here have argued to the hills that freedom of speech doesn't mean there won't be consequences with people like Gina. Yet all of a sudden, consequences are unfair, it's freedom of speech? It's not a great look.

No surprise there, coming from Jeremy. I mean, it's kinda his brand to hate anything considered "woke". His entire platform is just that, and caters to those who love to be part of hate campaigns.
I could create a fake news article about an upcoming fake Disney film called: "Bubba Goes To The Fair" and include an AI image of a fake main protagonist who is not white. I can assure you, his channel would have several videos uploaded the very next day about how terribly awful and woke this film is going to be, and is everything wrong with Hollywood today...

You or I may not like it, but that's the brand he's created for himself to pay the bills. What do you think would happen to his fanbase; his livelihood from online revenue if he were to post a video saying: "The new Snow White wasn't as bad as I thought."
He'd lose the very market that has kept his channel going over the years.

Gal Gadot couldn’t act wet if it was raining.
I've seen this exact one-liner over the past week several times on YT comments since the film was released.
Funny, but at the same time sad, she must bomb hard.

Edit to add: I'm still wondering what percentage of her bad performance critiques are her fault, and what percentage comes from the fact the queen doesn't lend itself to a wide array of emotional stretches of acting, like say Cruella or Maleficant do.

While I won’t see this in theatres, I’m definitely looking forward to checking it out when it hits Disney+.

The only remake I saw in theatres was the ‘eh, ok’ Cinderella and attempts to watch Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, and the Little Mermaid all only made it to 30-minutes, tops.

There’s just something so sterile-feeling about those films. Lovely, but bland and emotionless.

From what I’ve seen of the trailers for this, Zegler really seems alive in a way that the other leads did not. She sparkles. And she has chemistry with the less-bland-than-usual love interest.

Her comments don’t bother me. It’s concerning that they bother anyone to a large degree.

If someone in my life was harping on about some actress’ comments, I would think that they don’t have a lot of real-world problems or seriously lack perspective.

(Unless they were a teenager with a crush. Because I remember how I was with Ben from The Cars. My poor parents!)

Expectations matter as well. Even in this thread, I get the feeling most who saw it were disappointed in the final movie. People know what they are getting in Superbabies. I think Snow White they thought they were getting more than they were, and that will lead to lower ratings. But in the end, I have doubts on the review bombing stuff. I laughed at the idea there were positive review bombs for whatever the movie was that was being discussed, so I'm not going to buy into the negative ones here either.
