The great thing is, all those kids under 12 need a parent to also buy a ticket to take them to see SW.

It's great Disney makes movies they want to make and that make their Stakeholders happy.

It would also be great if they also made movies that are profitable to make their Shareholders happy too.

The way I interpreted this is:

Little girls love it.

Dads hated it.

Moms tolerate it because it made the little girls happy.

I can only imagine how heated this would have gotten had the internet been around back in the 80's when this was announced:

We've seen it a bunch. RDJ as iron Man, Evans as cap... Lots of questions and criticism of the choices. The big difference is competent filmmaking. People have always looked at these types of characters with a critical eye. Its up to the people making the film to prove those people wrong. The problem is, it sure doesn't seem snow white has done that. And even if it was great and Zegler was a standout performance, her comments kneecapped any chance of people saying, wow she was great, I got that one totally wrong.

Does anybody here remember the outrage when Michael Keaton was announced to play Batman in the 1989 film? It was brutal.

Actually I don't remember all that much outrage. I remember some people scratching their head a bit. but all in all the excitement for batman 89 was fever pitch by me. It was nothing like what's happened with snow white.

And the followup question would have been, "Yeah but how is it going to be different or is it going to be the same?".

And if the question is dodged again it'll come across as if she is hiding something, and that would have been a different kind of drama that people would have jumped at and lost their mind about.

The could make both Stakeholders and Shareholders happy if they had control of their movie budgets.

We know they know how to control budgets - See their theme park business.

You assume that Shareholders care how much they spent on their latest movie. I never really see one question at any shareholder meeting or earnings call from anyone complaining the movie budgets are too high.

Also stakeholders have a different priority than monetary. So they don't care about budgets either.

The only people that care about budgets are those that are focused on trying to mark the latest film a "flop".

No I just explained what she did (answer direct questions) and why she did it (the purpose of questioning is to elicit answers).

People are mad at Disney because of the movie they made and are scapegoating the star because she answered honestly when asked about it.

For what its worth all the parents, but mom and dads alike, at my screening last night looked like they were into the movie. And all the kids were under 12, so that fits with what was said in the Deadline article (the one I original quoted )

I do not understand being outraged.

When I see Disney do what I know is a mistake I just laugh and shake my head.

I will admit, I get a little sad for the loss of the castle lights at Christmastime, the Osborne lights and the loss of RoA, TSI and the riverboat but there is nothing to be done but to laugh and shake my head again.

Disney is gonna do what Disney's gonna do and there is nothing we can do to stop it.

I don’t think it’s outrage, I think people make hard choices on what movies they see at the theater.
It’s expensive to go.
Someone doesn’t like what a lead actor says, trailer doesn’t hit the right feels and that family chalks it up as a No Go and moves on with zero emotional attachment.
I think it’s possible families are looking for excuses not to go because of cost.

Shareholders care about the overall profitability of the company, not individual movies. As long as the overall entertainment division is profitable, which it has been, they don't care if movies go over budget.

I don’t know? Ask my wife. Why do many women love that scene? What makes it so iconic?
