Just as a check, I Googled (if we can believe Google) "biggest movie bomb in disney history"

Google returned, as expected John Carter, losing 284M in 2012.

Today Google tell me the production budget for Snow is only 209M using the access media formula of 2.5 * 209 = 522M is break even.

I have my doubts this will break even, when even using theses numbers.

I have a feeling they spent more than 209M to make this movie.

It was $209 after credits by the end of 2023, but before a bunch of reshoots and VFX to rework the film.

Well since the reshoots and the VFX were done in London, we'll have an actual accounting of those through UK tax records.

So if they did cost a lot we'll know about it. However I think people way overestimate the cost of reshoots and VFX, ie they don't add hundreds of Millions as some have claimed with other films.

You have a hard time believing people won't support entertainers who they don't find very entertaining and who they dislike personally?

No, that’s perfectly believable. It would be silly to do otherwise. Although I’ll admit I find it unusual to personally dislike a celebrity.
I find it much less likely that a small cadre of computer geeks can take down content that is sold to 8.5 billion people…
…especially when the content sucks.

I don't believe that either. I have a hard time dealing with the cadre of nerd-ragers and supposed adults who write the obnoxious things they do about both the celebrities and the movies. It seems over the top to me. Maybe others are more used to it.

I’ve never read or have seen any of it…to be honest.

It’s not worth the time…and the entire concept doesn’t make any sense the way content is made and distributed. Studios know what they have…and know where to target it to try and maximize yield.

If it goes down…99.9% of the time it’s because the makers did a terrible job on some level(s)

Liking/disliking celebrities, politicians, athletes, bands, authors, and other famous people is a national pastime. I have a long list of people I’ll go out of my way to buy from and also a pretty long list of people I actively avoid spending money on because I dislike their music, acting style, writing style, personal stances, etc. I thought that was completely normal and everyone did it.

240 was the latest estimate from variety. Which means we’ll theoretically get 280-290 or so (post credits) out of the UK tally at the end of the day. Since that figure would include Interest and overhead costs.

Which for others, 99% of the budgets we talk about here from the trades are pre interest and overhead.

I’m sure it is.

I tend to either like the type of people you mentioned for the reasons listed or just disregard them. I don’t know what you mean by “actively avoid spending money on.” What other way is there?

As far as taking into account matters outside their actual art form, I wish that nonsense never started. I don’t like it although I suppose there are lines that can’t be crossed.

Gina Carano’s Cara Dune was fabulous in so many ways. A believable, strong female character played beautifully by that actor. Why do we have to care about her politics?
(Others disagree, I know. People are different.)

Correct, and it's a global pastime. Back in William Shakespeare's day, grown men would sit in taverns having a drink, discussing his latest play. Debates would oftentimes breakout over whether or not it was good, etc. Sometimes those debates would lead to full-blown fistfights and brawls...over a play. People who analyze Shakespeare are deemed as intelligent. Yet in modern day, it's somehow childish to discuss/ debate movies and actors?

It was childish then too, but more accepted back in that time.

People who analyze Shakespeare now behave much differently than the people who went to plays in his day.

What is her next project, incidentally?

For Miss Zegler? I did an 8 second Google search, which is a research tactic notoriously rife with misinformation and lacks even a cursory bibliography much less open peer review, and I found nothing active in the pipeline for her after Snow White.

Perhaps the Shazam! franchise will get a reboot soon?

According to Variety yesterday, the Snow White premiere is pretty much closed to the press. None of the usual Hollywood trades or TV shows or websites are being allowed in to the premiere arrival process, AKA Red Carpet. Instead, the Red Carpet will be limited to select still photographers only, and a "house crew" from Disney capturing video/audio work of the event.

So they're locking this down tight, doing all the videography in house to be released as edited B Roll, and not letting any press in who might inadvertently capture words spoken by Rachel Zegler. Fascinating!

If I were to guess, this is both a reaction to the philosophical loose cannon that is Miss Zegler and the damage she's already done to this movie since 2023 AND the likelihood that this $240+ Million alleged tentpole movie isn't expected to do very well at the box office. 🧐
