There are folks who care enough about Wish to actually hate it? That is surprising to me.

That doesn't make any sense.
The Wish characters are current Disney characters and they will be included in all shows and marketing. That doesn't mean there is a cult following. It's just marketing of a crappy IP.

I was just saying hate is a strong word. To hate something it means you have passion about it,

I agree. It's a weird way of saying it.
On of the rules for being a Disney Princess is your film can't be a critical or commercial failure. Wish is the very definition of that. That is why Eilonwy from the Black Cauldron and Kida from Atlantis the Lost Empire are NOT Disney Princesses. Therefore Asha will never be an official Disney Princess. She also isn't born royal or married into it.

And yet Tiana is a Disney Princess even though her film is considered a critical failure.
And Mulan isn't royalty yet she is considered a Disney Princess too.
Basically the rules are whatever Disney makes them, so there is nothing that says that Asha can't or won't be a princess just because there are some examples of others that Disney has left off.

Whatever you want to call it, it was still a failure and by the posters definition (which is not Disney's definition mind you) Tiana can't be a princess because of it, and yet she is. Which shows that Disney don't care about fan definitions when it comes to their Princess marketing. And so if they want to make Asha an official Disney Princess because they think it'll sell merch in the Princess line they will.

Why on Earth is this character still meeting in Epcot and why were they still playing the terrible star song on Spaceship Earth during Food and Wine?

I'm thinking this might have to do with the fact that well, they did bring out some new merchandise this year (i.e. the limited edition fashion doll) because they wrongly assumed the movie would be a hit and there would be demand for it that far out, and didn't want to be caught unprepared as they were with Frozen and Encanto. But also, having not had an original concept hit big since Encanto, perhaps they feel focusing on the fresher IP along with the stuff that gets sequels will keep things from getting stale. (I am still a bit surprised that it didn't find a second life on streaming given how little stuff Disney+ actually puts up per month far as films go, surely the tots are getting a little tired of Frozen II and Encanto?)
I think if there is a "rule" it should be that the movie is not a critical and/or commercial failure. Princess and the Frog wasn't AS big as it could have been at the box office but critics liked it. (By some metrics Tangled didn't prove profitable theatrically because the budget got way out of hand, but by sheer ticket sales it was a hit in both regards.) Mulan was a hit both ways, and she also had the advantage, along with Tiana, of being non-Caucasian, since the line didn't have much diversity at that point, just Jasmine and Pocahontas and the latter's never been that popular as part of the line. Frozen would probably be part of the line if it weren't SO popular that it doesn't really need to be co-branded (besides, its dual heroines are both Queens anyway).
Anyway Asha definitely doesn't qualify as a princess by this take on the rule; the movie didn't make money and critics didn't like it, and audiences were just as cold in the end. Besides, the filmmakers went out of their way to point out that Asha isn't a princess by birth or marriage, she's an Ordinary Person Just Like You the Viewer who (allegedly) does extraordinary things.

No, I disagree with this take very much.
Because I’d suggest to you that Disney saw she had good enough success with her film doing Lilo & Stitch numbers globally against a $65-$105M budget and 85% on Rotten Tomatoes that they gave her a ride of her own at Disney Parks and a Disney+ series that might now become a movie if the successful experiment of Moana 2 is any indication.

Retail has pretty much sent all of the Asha stuff to secondary clearance stores like Kohls and TJ Max.
PATF made $270million world wide on a production budget of $105million. Going by our rule, it made back it's production budget and did make back its marketing. There was a small profit on it of about $5million.
That and politics is enough to destroy a classic Disneyland e-ticket attraction.

You're reading too much into the post which was just pointing how the criteria used by the poster on what classifies as a Disney Princess isn't what Disney uses.
Also for what its worth its taken Disney 15+ years to do what you've mentioned with Tiana, and longer depending on the time it takes to get the series (or whatever it'll be) to screens. So its only after looking back on it in hindsight do they even consider doing something with her beyond the original movie and merch.
