DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

Galaxy's Edge.

I think GE is a lot better than the empty cardboard facades taking up space for 9 months a year personally and ROTR is a high quality attraction
There is a lot I like about GE.
I love Rise and Smuggler's Run.
Many here put Smuggler's Run down.
That doesn't change the fact that Galaxy's Edge is little like what was promised, and little like what it could and should be.

IMO many wouldn't be so upset about what was promised if they would stop announcing new attractions at the concept art stage.

At D23 only announce new attractions that already have shovels in the ground. Don't announce things that aren't going to open 3-5 years from now

The land just lacks/lacked a lot of entertainment and other elements that should have been there. For many it has great scale but feels void of the transportive immersion. Diagon balances these things better(and I don't care for Escape From Gringotts, but the land and expansion as a whole is superior to most.)

I'm sorry, but what is this concept art? Other than very basic "monster" decorations added to mostly already existing buildings, nothing about this looks like Monstropolis from the film, which was very cleverly designed. It's a Wonderful Shop is still a Christmas shop? I'm so confused. This legitimately looks like they just painted over an existing painting of Muppets Courtyard. I swear you can even see a vague representation of the cutout of Statler and Waldorf to the right of the entrance.

Parts of it honestly almost look as if they were rendered with an AI engine. Like, what exactly is going on with these windows? 🤔 Eef.

Here's a size comparison between MuppetVision and the two Monsters Inc dark rides we have.

MV3D has a similar square footage to DCA, about 2000 sqft smaller, but it's significantly smaller than TDL. Something like DCA's dark ride would be very underwhelming in the modern era- a classic style dark ride, despite being charming, would likely disappoint guests who want to be wowed with modern bells and whistles.
Modern dark rides, like Mickey and Minnie's, are HUGE. I mean, look at the size of this compared to the last three.

Rise of the Resistance (DL since DHS's Google Maps is still a dirt lot) is also massive- about five times the size of MuppetVision. If you ask me, I'd rather have five MuppetVisions, but I'm not the average guest lol.

A new, modern Monsters Inc dark ride doesn't have to be on the scale of Rise, it shouldn't be, but with MMRR being much larger but also aimed at a similar demographic, I don't think there's any way to do something worthwhile in the MV3D space besides another show. If only there were a lot of property in DHS that would be large enough to house a rollercoaster AND a dark ride, and maybe even a show too on top of restaurants and shops... oh well.

Hey wait a second where'd this photo come from?
i would love it if they made smaller scale dark rides. for themselves to create a better experience than just relying on BIG. there's something fun about a bus bar dark ride that you don't get with a trackless.

And...I preferred Tower 2.0 at DCA over the Florida version. Florida was groundbreaking, but clunky in spots. DCA's improved visuals and scripting made the experience better. And I cannot underestimate how great it is to start and end with the same Bell Hop. Makes the whole ghost story work so much better. DCA's TOT ride experience was my 2nd favourite Disney attraction.
Oof, I know this is off-topic but I forgot about this take of yours.

Improved scripting like "Wave goodbye to the real world." That's laughable. My brothers literally laughed at that the first time we went on the DCA ToT after having grown up on DHS' version.

Walking through a hallway to get onto the elevator.

The lack of a fourth-dimension scene.

DHS is so completely superior to the DCA one, and it's not even close. There's tons more I could say, but this is not the thread for it.

It certainly is the superior version now.

And I have never ridden the OG Tower without people laughing at it. The 5th dimension room let down, the window break ending in silence will without a pay off, and then the awkward fumbling of the car to settle in the drop shaft. It's clunky. Maybe they can use the tech from Rise to fix that moment in the future.

Either way, now Mission BO stands as the worst drop tower Disney ride.

I have ridden Tower probably 1000 times and never once heard anyone laugh at the ride. It is generally perceived as one of WDI’s crowning achievements. My only complaints revolve around their failure to maintain effects well. Audio synchronization has been terrible for years.

I think it is a fair bet that if you are hearing people laugh at that scene EVERY time you ride it, You are projecting your dislike for the scenes with people nervously laughing because they are aware they are rising up on a foreboding atmosphere thrillride and are about to experience the drops.

They even re-use the image of the Christmas Shop facade (but mirrored) in various places. Did they give someone a 6-hour turnaround time to make this? So weird:

That being said, replacing the halfway-unfinished-movie-sets-with-visible-warehouses look with completed facades that actually transport guests someplace is already a big aesthetic/thematic step up. And I suspect—in part precisely because the concept art was so hastily done, and thus the design likely isn’t far along—that they’ll think up some other clever thematic elements for what we actually get.

OR....they use it as a crutch to stick with the Hollywood "transition" and we are stuck with many obvious facades when you turn.

Indy/Tropic Americas
Monstropolis entire land
Villans Land
Cars Frontier large plot

A lot of minor things that have not happened yet. So much time for cuts.

Everyone keep expectations in check for the next 3-5.

You all are going to feel like jerks when they reveal this new art was completed by a class of 5th graders as part of WDI’s new, “I’m an Imagineer and Maybe You Can Be One, Too!” community outreach program.

I think they did a great job!

Not bad for being volun-told by a guy who is approving park lands and attractions that they are not even tall enough to ride yet. By the time it opens though they will have fun asking "who the heck are these guys?" on the 48 Inch Height requirement RnR.
