Disney is obsessed with making everything a land because they're still trying to replicate the success of Wizarding World with every IP they can think of.

Maybe we'll be able to scream at shop windows to make props twirl?

When it comes to Monster's I think they don't have creativity anymore so grabbing already existing files for a Door Coaster is easy over a franchise that was a decade ago and it's prequel is forgettable. Princess and The Frog is old too but that's another reason why they picked it.

I'm happy with the announcement. The Muppets area doesn't even seem like a land anymore. It needs updating. I know a lot of people on this board like MuppetVision, but it felt out of place to me. Having it in a dying area of the park wasn't doing Muppets any justice.

It seemed like Monsters needed more than a roller coaster for a land. Nice that there will be a theatre show. And the coaster is on expanded land.

RnRC's theme is out of place. I think Muppets is better than Aerosmith.

Animation Courtyard/Launch Bay seems like a more visual gap than the Muppets land right now. I'm actually surprised this wasn't the location of Monsters. It seems like something else is likely being considered here, so I am interested in what is next. I know we heard Zootopia is being considered. But Incredibles as a Pixar IP is really lacking in WDW. With Incredibles 3 coming out eventually, I wonder if we could see that as a future replacement? Also wonder if ToT could be Incredibles themed like Guardians is in DL. (I don't think ToT should be replaced. Too iconic of a ride.) Inside Out is also lacking and could be a good fit for Animation Courtyard. With current popularity, that might be the best IP as Animation Courtyard is quite visible.

Also, glad to see Star Tours is safe. That was also rumored to go for awhile as well.

Outside looking in, Wizarding World seems like the perfect IP for the land concept because it's really easy to immerse yourself in it and it plays to a fantasy many have had. The only visual difference between a wizard and a mortal is that wizards have wands, so just get a wand and BOOM you belong there! By the story of Harry Potter, anyone can randomly be born a wizard anyway, and they might not even know it until they get their letter to attend school.

Then you have the houses, which let you get even more into it. They're all based on personality instead of what kind of magic you do anyway, so when you say you're a Slytherin you can really mean it. And if you grew up in the 2000s you probably have known your house for decades.

That's not even touching the fact that being a wizard is just a cool idea that you don't need to be a Harry Potter fan to appreciate.

Monstropolis...well, I'm obviously a tourist. I do not belong here. If anything I'm just a battery. There's nothing to make me feel like I belong here or really get immersed. It's not playing into any kind of common lifelong dream, either. It doesn't have that same appeal.

Really conflicting here.

For one, on an objective stance it's going to be hard to argue this isn't an overall park upgrade. The park gets one more ride (with the Monsters coaster), there's still a family-friendly theater show in Monsters, Muppets is moving to get its own coaster and park section which will be a far better theme then now, plus there's the very real possibility that it can one day get a new Muppetvision next door in the Cars/Villains building when Villains Land opens and there's no need for that show anymore.

At the same time, we're losing a historic attraction that was the man's last work, the perfect Muppets attraction and one of the park's highlights. Also add in the pure tragedy that the nightmare that is Animation Courtyard gets to continue to exist with no end in sight.

While like I said - I don't believe The Muppets belong in WDW - they belong at Sesame Place.
I do clearly see how their "everything falls apart and goes nuts" finale style will really work with the coaster.
However...
I do wonder what portion of Sesame Street age little ones are going to board that ride and be shocked (along with their parents) as they are rocketed in a high G launch, into a loop, and through a barrel roll?
Because no matter how well Disney attempts to make the severity of the ride clear, there are going to be a sizable portion of riders who think this is Slinky Dog Dash II.

Everyone was also right that they were going to announce or tease a new Muppets attraction at the same time to break the news better (just everyone got the wrong ride being replaced)

I’m trying to catch up (on 281/294), is there truth to the MILF building having asbestos and needing to be torn down to build anything new? Not sure how that would factor into what gets put there but if the plans for TL are big it would make sense.

Disney undertook a very thorough pre-emptive remediation process starting back at the turn of the century. Even if there is still asbestos in the building it it would be a reason to keep the building, not one for demolition.

Also, i think it's wise to try to remove emotion when looking at decisions. Because you end up with blinders on to what the situation actually is. This decision is a bigger net positive for the park than anything they have done in years in florida. Even if it makes me sad.

Well that's like being the fastest sloth. I mean, guess what would have been a bigger positive for the park? Keep muppet vision, and use the space that's been all but abandoned, and will probably stay that way for at least 10yrs, to actually build out the park.

Also them choosing not to touch Animation Courtyard makes me believe those rumors about them saving that area for Marvel, and them trying to get through rights back

I have a hard time believing that, for starters, anything gets done in the courtyard in the next decade. And I see no reason Disney gets the rights for marvel in Florida. They're perfectly happy collecting a check from universal.

My kids watched Muppets Mayhem on D+ and actually really liked it. I'm sure they are not alone in that experience.

Yea, my 6yr old daughter loved it. She watched the entire season and rewatches different episodes all the time. My older kids loved it too. My son, who doesn't really watch anything, let alone a season of anything, watched every episode with us as well.

While I support mayhem for rockin. This whole thing just how poorly Disney thinks things through. Muppets mayhem, while it didn't garner a huge audience, was generally a big hit for fans of the characters. So they 86 it almost instantly instead of using it as the jump off point that it should have been. The show was obviously not very expensive. So why not give it a few seasons and try to build something? They were fine with wasting 230mil on the turd that was the acolyte. Instead of cancelling it after you won some awards, and had a #1 album! That's when you announce, Drteeth and the band are here to take over rockin rollercoaster!

Just in case anyone was keeping track of things: Tom just publicly called the closure of MuppetVision a "short-sighted mistake" and said we should "hold fire under Disney's feet" until they do something like put MuppetVision in the Sunset Showcase, so to anyone thinking he'd defend the decision, it's on the contrary!

They said in the announcement that the land is getting a new show and the concept also seems to suggest that MILF is moving over. So not only are we replacing a non-capacity show for another non-capacity show we are potentially gaining another non-capacity show in this park, both of which feature characters that I think the little ones might like more than the Muppets.

That's why this isn't a disastrous move for the park like it potentially could have been.

A Door Coaster for MV3D swap would have probably made the park worse. The Door Coaster as a new build with Laugh Floor or an entirely new show (hopefully this) should help the park, although it's still imperative that they do something with Launch Bay/Animation Courtyard ASAP.

Simply doing this and the RNRC retheme but leaving that big area untouched for years will mean they really misused their funding in terms of doing the best thing for the park.

I believe the MILF billboard is just placeholder art. That show is nearly 20 years old and it's better to just get a new Monsters show. MILF is just too old at this point.
