News Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to permanently close this fall

For what you get and what’s included, you could argue that was a better value than SWGS.

True. It's all up to the person. I don't think I'm cut out for 24 days with the same 70ish people, no matter the itinerary. But I see where people might find more value in it. Everyone has something. Starcruiser just happens to be the "something" for my family, and the community of people we've met onboard.

I did line dancing once. At Mickey’s Backyard BBQ. It was about 4 minutes. Maybe 5. I don’t think I paid $6,000 though.

I’m thinking it was around $59.99.

I’m starting to wonder. What if the guy in charge of Galactic Failure just simply put the decimal point in the wrong place.

This is probably the poster child for something that sounds good to focus groups but doesn't work in real life.

I'm sure they surveyed people asking if they would pay to live in a Star Wars Hotel with a themed experience and people said yes.

Then the final product comes out and it looks like a knockoff Star Wars and has bingo and dance lessons as activities... and it costs 5 thousand dollars.

Question: What is more likely to happen after, in an effort to promote the Galactic Star Crusier, Disney allows a line dancing session on the Star Cruiser to be broadcasted by a local news station live to the general public?

"Line Dancing in Star Wars!! Hell yes!!! Take my money Disney!!"

Answer B: "Line dancing in Star Wars? Da hell????? This costs $5K???? Where is Vader? Luke? Lightsabers???"

Yeah. Answer B wins. Anyone with common sense can see that. Lol it would be laughable to suggest showing the line dancing to the media as a on board activity in a effort to promote this thing, had no impact on people wanting to fork over $5 grand to experience this thing. No impact whatsoever. Give me a break. Of course it impacted it. Evidence: The place is CLOSING FOREVER.

What they put in there was like an expensive great wolf lodge…

They just don’t get it…

They did it to “cost control” and that was an ultimate fail.

They could have sold this…but what would it take?

How about 24 hour food/Interactive spaces?

A lightsaber…like a new invention kinda thing…training/battleground

A spaceship sim that knocks your Socks off…like a theme park grade ride system for limited access.



That’s what Star Wars NEEDED…that’s what the dreamers who are Star Wars fans conjure up.

The mind was always the key to Star Wars…they jsut don’t get it.

They needed Rise level of investment on an "experience" like this to justify the price they were charging.

Problem is, they'd never make that kind of money back with the self-imposed limit on availability but the minds that brought us limited viewing areas, special cupcakes and after hours non-event up-charges thought that the brand and exclusivity was enough to get people to buy into this and... be happy?

I mean, I guess some people did and were but clearly, not enough of them, even at the small scale they themselves set.

This always had to be lackluster in location because the money just wasn't there to either build or sustain it any other way when averaging 300 or fewer guests every two days meaning no effects heavy stuff, lame light saber training*, no plethora of wandering droids (though even this "budget" hotel has robots that'll come to your room to deliver stuff) so they had to lean on the cast to make it work and the problem there, to me anyway, is if the most impressive sights and sounds from your $5k+ two day "experience" still happen on a ride at the theme park, what was all that money you spent really going towards?**

I'm sure the cast were awesome but... I doubt a large percentage of that two day fee was going into any equity performers' bank accounts... well, maybe with poor bookings it was and I imagine that ended up being the problem for Disney.



*Because you really can't justify expensive R&D on new tech to roll it out on such a limited scale so we end up with something less impressive than a licensed star wars VR game already on the market and less impressive than something that opened in DisneyQuest nearly 30 years ago, now.

It's sad when you think that this is a premier world and universe created by George Lucas and Disney has an insane library of books, games, and movies as source material.

This is not only what they come up with, but what got approved, and it's an expensive product. I don't understand their way of thinking. This isn't Star Wars at all.

One time there was a big goof in Rise of the Resistance communicating rider swap after downtime for.my wife, my son and myself right at the end of the night.

It was the first ride ever for all of us while my sister was getting out of the attraction with her repeat riding family which still live close enough to go often.
We were patient and realized we may not get to ride

CMs made it happen for us. Just us. We were the only ones in a long lightning lane queue. The only ones in the presbows, interrogation etc... Entire ride to exit.

Better than anything Starcruiser could have done for me. A fluke and luck, but for amazing service and incredibly blessed personal experience.

That is a good example of the big problem. 2 to 6 grand would have never replicated even that.

It was amazing in every way,especially Quarks’s. Didn’t cost 6 grand either.

And in the 90’s, anybody trying to “cosplay” and tell others about their backstory in a Vegas casino would have been placed upside down in a trash can the way God intended.

It was based on two of the best written/acted character shows ever.

What you film MATTERS…

And a certain franchise - which should be a slam dunk - has struggled because they attempt to tell people “what’s appropriate”…when people just want a little tingle…just a blip at any age that sticks.

They worry about what’s sold in a store in 10 years…instead of a smile outside of the theater this summer.
Been going on for decades. Shame on Disney for not learning an easy lesson.

Speaking of…GOTG3 had another good week/weekend…instead of flatlining in 15-20 days like recent SW offerings.
Cause it’s good…and it’s characters.

There’s a clear lesson on that…combine it with the fun of maverick last year and hey…maybe not being schmucks??

The employees are the second most underrated asset at Disney parks…even the drunkards from vista/Chatham have a certain quality that leads to good things at times. It’s “in there”

The most underrated asset are the dead men and women who built the original parks through the 80s and 90s
Amazing Group and their legacy has really stood the weathers of time.

This was probably approved by a half dozen or more executives. I would bet all have been promoted in some sense since then.

If TWDC were a normal functional organization, everyone involved in this ship wreck, would have already been separated from the company.

Don’t forget the success of Mario which was able to outgross both Disney and Pixar’s animated efforts of last year combined and we’ll probably be able to add Elemental in there as well.

They should bave done more in SWGE. MF training. Multiple rides to try to improve. A lot could have been done.
