I would say in general they compete for different audiences based on the different shows, hence why you can't really do a true apples-to-apples comparison other than minutes watched. It was an okay show. It was better than Willow or She-hulk. It was just something that never really caught on. Disney+ shows really don't compete very well against similar Netflix shows.
It's part of the Disney strategy of its live-action studios to keep taking popular children's or young adult books and hoping to strike the next Harry Potter gold mine.It was an okay show. I've read the Mysterious Benedict Society books. They had potential but this show just didn't deliver on it. I liked the characters but there was just something off. Maybe too much Willy Wonka? Artemis Fowl was really bad. I've read all of those books too. It might have been better as an animated version kind of like the Rise of Gru.It's part of the Disney strategy of its live-action studios to keep taking popular children's or young adult books and hoping to strike the next Harry Potter gold mine.
Most of that... isn't very good. Too much of that is downright awful (looking at you, Artemis Fowl).
At least Disney has stopped embarrassing themselves by making them theatrical releases... which spectacularly bomb.
Streaming is a better test bed.
I always thought the rule on Netflix was three seasons for pretty much anything but Stranger Things is going for five.I would say in general they compete for different audiences based on the different shows, hence why you can't really do a true apples-to-apples comparison other than minutes watched.
But comparing just how Netflix cancels their shows, specifically with their YA shows, on average they get cancelled between seasons 2-4. So this show getting cancelled after 2 seasons is not surprising given how the YA genre does on streaming in general.
Some shorter, some longer. For example Fate, the Winx Club live action show, only got 2 seasons while Sabrina got 4. So the average might be 3, but it ranges between 2 to 4 seasons for most YA shows on Netflix.I always thought the rule on Netflix was three seasons for pretty much anything but Stranger Things is going for five.
I've been watching Lockwood & Co. It's a much better YA type show. The books were great.
