I hear they lost the flash drive. Not the greatest overlay in the world but still a fun change up to the ride. Anyone know why it was shelved and if it's ever coming back?
They should! They should re-do it and make it better. It’s cheesy and the effects aren’t very impressive.
Monsters After Dark feels unfinished. It's literally one Monster in the ride yet the preshow talks about tons of Monsters and how we're there to attract them. The title also implies we need more Monsters. If it is truly gone, then it is a passing worthy of note. Ghost Galaxy debuted alongside Disney's push for the Halloween crowd, but held the distinction of the only attraction that tried to be actually scary. It even got a jump out of a friend of mine! I have never ridden Monsters After Dark, but from youtube observation it seems no more frightening than the standard version. I'm forced to agree with the criticisms of the ride preceding my post, but I didn't mind it despite its obvious low impact execution.
Perhaps, but it certainly doesn’t help that the regular ride lacks visual interest. Also, the rabid acceptance of Hyperspace Mountain ensures that one of these days the regular Space Mountain will simply cease to be and it'll just be Hyperspace or some other IP version forever.
You go to space, it's weird, there's stars. What else of visual interest needs to be there?Perhaps, but it certainly doesn’t help that the regular ride lacks visual interest.
I do seem to remember more projections before Hyperspace regularly became a thing. Not really sure how much of that is anti-Hyperspace bias and how much of it is fact, but that was my perception.Fair enough, but as I'm sure you know the original version had a satellite and projections of comets, meteors and planets. I couldn't tell you why all of that went away, but that was the way I liked it.
Hmm. It would be interesting to find a good POV of the original ride so I could get a better sense of what is missing, since I gather you're talking about the pre-2005 version and I have no real recollection of that (other than thinking that California surfer guitar music in space was weird but not in a good way).I beg your pardon, but I do not remember any projections after the major refurbishment. I do remember getting off the ride after it had reopened and thinking to myself: "Stars? That's all?" The original version of the ride had real character. You are right of course, the original projections were terribly dated by the time the ride closed. I just was, and am, stunned that they added none of that back. I wouldn't care for a permanent Hyperspace Mountain either, but the ride could use something.
I totally forgot about this. You are right. When Space Mountain reopened in 2005, there were lots of projections. There was a space station, a comet, swirling galaxy and asteroid hitting each other. It all kind of disappeared when Ghost Galaxy happened. It is like they never turned those projections on again. You can see them in one of the older Hong Kong Disneyland Space Mountain videos since they got the same package. The difference being, they lit their center asteroid and Disneyland never did.
