EPCOT Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind attraction confirmed for Epcot

Man - you really missed the plot in those attractions.
Man - you really read more into the plot than was there in those attractions.

It's easy.. each told a story that established an arc and purpose in their space and then told you to go off and continue that trajectory as an optimistic go-forward mission. Even JII was all about teaching you the potential of what is to come if you just embraced imagination and creativity. The very notion of creativity is about the future.. about what you can do, not just what was before.
Sorry you were so focused on a 'history lesson' and couldn't see the forrest for the trees and missed the entire lesson.
All of those pavilions were about forward outlook and optimism about what we could do. Just because several took the mechanism of looking back to establish HOW we've done this before and ARE doing it today instead of simply cold-turkey telling you its what you SHOULD do.. doesn't mean none of this was about future. The purpose of looking back is to establish the credibility of the sponsor's role in the message, to bring familiarity to the message, and to build confidence in that the message is achievable.
TLDR - It's a "you know this, you can do it!" pep talk approach instead of getting a lecture on something you don't feel you can relate to or believe in.
But.. you be you.. it's just a dancing purple dragon and fake oil stories.
So, just looking forward is enough justification to exist in "Future World?"
I guess looking forward to galactic space travel is enough justification for GotG:CR.
And what was it that hang gliding over famous California landmarks was looking forward to? Flight? Which was already more than 100 years old?
And was Test Track looking forward to? buying a car?
Reaching is reaching.
Living with the Land was perfect for "Future World" as was The Seas until they took away the theme of underwater adventure awaiting us all... in the future.

Well now you’re arguing that the attractions everyone knows are reaching are reaching. Original Test Track and Soarin’ were never prime examples of Future World.

Question for y'all: In regards to the Cast Member previews coming in May that allow for "friends and family", does anyone know what the limit is? Like if one cast member wanted to take three friends with her, would she be able to?
Usually the number of guests that you can admit on your Main Entrance pass.

Ok, what do you think Future World's message was?
Except, that's not the story for this attraction. By your logic the use of cars in something must make something about transportation and cars.. instead of.. just something that moved people.
Not sure which EPCOT you visited - but none of those things were part of Future World when it was actually EPCOT Center and Future World still had a connected theme for it's pavilions. And was there some wave of people adoring Soarin' and Test Track for being beacon's of Future World's theme that I missed? Last I checked, people have always challenged their fit to the overall message/purpose of Future World.
Future World wasn't just about trying to immerse you in the Future or predict it - but was also about our civilization's approach and optimism for the future. The 70s was full of distopian futures, Sci Fi fears, economic dispair, and 'disaster' was more prevalent than optimism for our potential. Future World wove messages of great potential, our achievements, and tried to inspire the audience into believing we had that in front of us. It brought in stories of our successes, it had demonstrations of what is happening now and in the near future, and even had far ahead projections of what might be.
Simply saving the planet from a sci fi fantasy monster using space or time travel is none of those things. It's just entertainment using sci-fi settings and themes.
Fits well into Bob's Ipcot.

If this ride were built today it would easily cost 600 million. So for those complaining about the cost it was a massive bargain.

I feel like given the choice between "Every EPCOT Center attraction missed the point of EPCOT Center" and "MisterPenguin missed the point of EPCOT Center", I know which one I have an easier time getting behind . . .

I'm not disagreeing with the majority of what you're saying generally, but isn't that at least kind of the story for this attraction? I thought it was a sort of "fantasy" World's Fair pavilion, with the Nova Corps as the sponsor. The Galaxarium is supposed to be the past-facing, reflective portion of the exhibit that traces the history of the universe from the big bang onward, the rest of the queue includes exhibits of Xandar's accomplishments, and it's all supposed to culminate in you experiencing a new technology by hyperjumping to Xandar for a quick visit. Of course, Things Go Wrong™, but I don't think what was said in that particular statement was that far off.

I'm rewatching the Behind the Attraction on Disney+, and am still surprised they reskinned ToT @ DCA in less than a year. And designed and produced the Rocket AA. Kinda proves the point that Disney could speed up their ride construction times if they wanted to (which they dont)

To be clear, Soarin' is a complete disconnect to the entire concept of Epcot.
Hang gliding around California has nothing to do with Epcot. Nothing.
(But to be fair, even at DCA the ride about HANG GLIDING had the history of aviation in the queue (?) and a commercial airline safety video (?). It's as if three entirely different groups worked on the attraction and had no idea what the others were doing).

I agree with the original film. I think the idea, had it focused on the biomes of the world, would be very, very Epcot.

Penguin is absolutely not dumb, and they're very knowledgeable about WDW history. They understand what EPCOT Center was, they just have to pretend not to in order to mount a defense of the placement of GotG. It's why they're focusing on attractions that anyone who has spent any time on these boards would know are widely considered part of Future World's precipitous decline and move away from its original theme.
Remember when GotG was going to fit because the attraction would containing edutainment content pertaining to the big bang? That seemed to be a prevalent view around here for quite some time... even I believed it. It appears WDW didn't even feel the need to include that fig leaf of justification.

I suppose you could argue that being willfully obtuse is a form of missing the point . . . but then, I also suppose you could argue it isn't, so I won't bother. That said, I generally agree.
I'm not sure I ever quite believed Disney was gonna go to any sort of real trouble to make Guardians seem like a decent fit for EPCOT - they seem content at this point to simply revise what an EPCOT is. Which is a shame.

I would argue that while I may be more fond of the original versions of both Test Track and Soarin', the current versions of both attractions are more befitting of classic EPCOT.
I like both versions of Test Track for different reasons. I don't think either outdid WoM, but... I can understand where you're coming from on that one. The original Soarin' "fit" better than the current CGI bastardization. IMHO.
