Can I use attractions that have closed in the past year, or is there a date from which we cannot use rides that closed. Like last challenge we had the has to be 10 years or older thing.
It must have closed prior to 2015 (park opening-2014).
How much are we allowed to change? For example, would WoM still have to be an omnimover?
You may change the ride system. You have to keep the basic idea, but you can go all out. :)

No, they must be rides or attractions.
Can we replace attractions? If not, can we change attractions currently in the park?
You can replace attractions completely, but you cannot change attractions to convert them to new ones. Either find a new space or demolish a current area/building.

Could we change the name of something, and then add something else as our addition? Basically, I want to add a Figment ride, but don't want something call Journey Into Imagination with Figment right next door.

Three Magic Kingdom Favorites
Back From Extinction

Nostalgia is a big market right now. We've seen countless remakes, reboots, and decades-later sequels over the years. Some of them work out really well (The Force Awakens), others...not so much (Batman V. Superman) Nostalgia is not something that's lost on Disney parks. Hell, the mere concept was a huge part of Walt's original vision for Disneyland.

latest

Today, the parks share a long standing tradition of celebrating the past while moving forward into the future. We've seen fabeled charactrers like the Hatbox Ghost will their way into existence. It's time Disney gets serious and brings back some heavy hitting contenders for favorite attractions among park guests...attractions that were taken from us way too soon.

For this project I decided to go with The Magic Kingdom as a jumping off point. MK is an interesting park in that it has a lot of the same traditional elements as Disneyland, but some things have been lost over time. For this project I'll be mainly concentrating on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and the ExtraTerrorEstrial Alien Encounter, but I'll also be reviving a small but iconic early day attraction in the Swan Boats for a new audience. I think this is a perfect blend of old experiences that have stood the test of time since their closures and held onto their fan bases.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

This is by far the attraction I've wanted to revive for MK the most. Similar to how the Seven Dwarve's Mine Ride is essentially a thrill ride retelling of the Snow White dark ride, I aim to make this incarnation of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride a true DUELING roller coaster that lives up to the promise presented by early concepts for the attraction that featured a truly white-knuckle, while still family friendly, ride to Nowhere in Particular.

3.jpg

With one attraction we must loose another, and unfortunately I have chosen Philharmagic to bite the bullet. While this is certainly among the best of the 4D theme park experiences, the fact of the matter is that this genre is a dying breed with digital 3D and "D-Box" motion seats being installed in more and more theaters across the country.

Philhar also is an example of something I think Disney and Imagineering need to start moving away from if they want to stay fresh and relevant in today's market...stop relying on what essentially boil down to "Best of Disney!" clip shows. World of Color, Mickey's Magical Map, and Philhar are just some examples of Disney attractions that show us clips that have been burned into our heads LONG before we've ever entered the parks.

The removal of Philhar will leave a substantial space for the Mr. Toad footprint. The ride's dueling coaster is broken up into two sides..."The Law", and "Motorists". The thrill of the ride will come from old timey police cars chasing down motor cars, darting in and out of the Toad Hall property. This truly turns the ride into a chase!

The queue winds its way through the elaborate gardens of the new Toad Hall mansion exterior before splitting off into two paths. The Motorists will head directly into the side while the "law" will go through an imposing stone structure off to the side fashioned to look like a police station.

Going through the two queues, the story is laid out. In Toad Hall we see a kitchen and dining room completely destroyed with tire tracks running all over the floor. Toad has also plastered flyers for the latest motor car all over the halls of the manor. Clearly his mania has taken hold of him.

At the police station we see wanted posters for Toad and hear first hand reports of his mania. Making our way to the loading platform on both sides of the queue, the ride begins with you climbing into your respective police car or motorist car. While the atmosphere of Toad Hall and the jail are in stark contrast with each other, the two loading platforms are actually only divided by a single wall so the interactions the two sides of the track have start right away.

Guests climb a short lift hill before entering a room themed to the English country side where the two sides of the track start to collide with each other in a series of wild mouse style hairpin turns and near misses with oncoming cars. The police are in pursuit as you dip into heavy traffic featuring a large array of overhead lights simulating the different passing vehicles.

After bolting out of traffic, you veer into a towns square and see an AA of Toad and Cyrill singing Nowhere in Particular as the motor cars and police zoom around them. The chase crashes into Winky's Pub where the police almost catch up to the motorists before the motorists go down a surprise double drop splitting them back off.

o.jpg

Here the ride enters a large lift hill where we see Toad prepare an old fashion Wright Brothers style plane. The lift hill appears to be taking us into the clouds via projection mapping. Reaching the top of the 75 foot lift, we emerge outside and see we're just above the roof to Toad Hall.

mr-toad3.jpg

Suddenly, we dip down a steep curved drop and crash head first through a wall of the mansion. This drop will serve as a visual centerpoint of the Toad Hall exterior and all the cars dropping down into the mansion is certain to cause a large level of kinetic energy as guests are waiting in line to enter.

The police emerge on a lifthill on the opposite side of the mansion's roof and do a mirror image of the curved drop crashing into the opposite wall of the mansion. Here the ride's finale takes place with guests darting in and out of the Toad Hall exterior and crashing through different rooms. We hit a climax as both sides reach an untimely end.

The motorists crash right through the grand fire place and find themselves in hell with the weasels serving as pitchfork wielding devils. The law has a suit of armor crash on them sending them up to the pearly gates featuring a variety of different Toads acting as harp playing angels.

And thus ends Mr. Toad's Wild Ride...No matter which side wins, you ALL die ;) In all seriousness, I strongly feel this attraction would be a major hit at the Magic Kingdom. The duel tracked element of the park's original Mr. Toad ride made it stand apart from Disneyland, and the roots of the attraction and the underlying theme of motor mania would make for a perfect dueling coaster with plenty of dark ride elements thrown in for good measure. It'd be the perfect headlining family thrill ride E Ticket to compliment the Seven Dwarf's Mine Train.

The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter

Next we come to Tomorrowland and Alien Encounter. Quick! Name the most hated attraction in all of WDW. Chances are you picked Stitch's Great Escape. Indeed, while we can all agree the actual AA of Stitch is technically impressive, the show it's based around is a bit of a dumpster fire.

hqdefault.jpg

With that in mind, Skippy is finally making his grand return in an all new vision of Alien Encounter that uses much of the same sensory based effects from the original and combines them with an entirely new ride system.

Disney's time honored World's Fair roots will be homaged here as the XS Corporation is in attendance for a brand new Galatic World's Fair showing off their teleportation technology. This convention center setting will be the main difference in the story. It's not just taking a tour of XS Headquarters...In this version, XS is specifically selling to you and a large scale audience who has come out for the fair.

In the queue that wraps around the main building we see many homages to the 1964/1965 World's Fair including the Unisphere, a Tom Orrow looking robot that happens to have Lincoln's head, a booth displaying "living dolls", and an advertisement for a trip back into the Primevil World. Entering the main lobby of the building guests are drenched in purple neon lighting as the XS Logo shines brightly around them.

2_New-York-Worlds-Fair-1964-1965-500x319.jpg

Video displays show just how convient the XS teleportation tech can make every day life in cheesy 1960's style ads that homage Carousel of Progress. Realize you're out of milk? Forget having to walk to the store, have milk transported to you from half way across the world!

Late to that important job interview? Not a problem! More and more buisinesses are installing XS teleportation tubes to beam you directly to your job in a matter of seconds! The video hypes up what were here to do...Be among the first humans to be transported off of Earth into a space station managed by XS.

The ride system will take cue from technologies developed for the 1964 World's Fair...many of which implemented a conveyor belt like system that Disney would soon have a monopoly over with the Omnimover tech.

Instead of Omnimovers, this ride utilizes a conveyor belt of seats that are directly attached to the inside walls of the building. The main ride will simply wind this conveyor around the building 360 degrees as guests get a fixed view.

As with the original Alien Encounter, XS has designed these with safety in mind which means you'll be strapped in with an over the shoulder harness for extra protection! After taking your seat along the constantly moving load platform you round the corner and enter the first of four main show rooms.

The first scene features a recreation of the infamous SIR and Skippy pre-show scene with the Tim Curry voiced robot SIR accidentally suspending adorable fluffy alien Skippy in mid-teleportion causing a devastating and monstrous side effect and suggesting the tech is flawed.

At this point things go into chaos mode as XS realizes the teleportation tech is unstable and shifts their efforts to you getting back to the loading bay and away from the newly deformed Skippy. Of course since this is Alien Encounter things aren't going to be that easy.

AlienEncounter4.jpg

SIR's voice guides you on the intercom through a long, dark, suspense filled hallway as fourth dimensional sound radiates from all over the room and up close in your ear thanks to strategically placed speaks within the over the shoulder harnesses. Things get super tense really fast as your hear Skippy growing and roaring as SIR tries frantically to figure out the situation.

The next room is a room Skippy has already rampaged through and features exposed electrical wiring, sparks flying, red spinning lights and alarms going off. As we progress, the lights start to blink and we hear Skippy again. This is where the 4D really comes into play as we can feel the drool of the alien and the warm air of its breath breathing down our neck.

Tension fills the attraction as our vehicles continue down the conveyor on the wall into the final room which is our first actual glimpse of the main Skippy AA. XS has managed to contain it in a teleportation tube, but as fog fills the tube Skippy is trying desperately to break free. Will it be able to? Were not staying long enough to find out!

The seats round one more corner and were back in the loading area where SIR frantically urges us to evacuate the attraction as we hear the sounds of glass breaking and Skippy roaring. Indeed, this new Alien Encounter will feature all the intensity of the original with the added twist of you actually moving throughout the attraction giving the ride an additional sense of urgency.

http://www./wp-content/uploads/2011/10/alienencounter.jpg

It will certainly be among the more mature offerings at WDW, but due to the giant cult status of Alien Encounter and all the nostalgia surrounding it I am confident the attraction will be a big hit with the slightly older demographic. Anything's gotta be better than Stitch's Great Escape, at the very least!

The Swan Boats

The most simple new addition will also be among the most charming. The old Swan Boats serve as perhaps the single most nostalgic thing that has long since been missing from the Magic Kingdom. It was never a major attraction, but seeing the dozen boats constantly flowing through the castle moat and past the Swiss Treehouse provided that section of the park with an outstanding amount of kinetic energy while the actual attraction provided a leisurely tour of some of the park's offerings from a unique vantage point.

Indeed, many mourned the loss of the swan boats when they closed, and still miss them to this day...

The new Swan Boats will be placed along the same route as the originals with one unique change...Trackless Aquatopia style technology! Now as guests go through the castle moat they'll be moving in unpredictable paterns past a variety of water fountains and obstactles.

Boats will float around each other, spin in circles, and even join together for a syncronized water dance. Best of all, no two rides will be the same as the on board computer system relies on ramdomizing each and every trip for thousands of potential combinations of events and series of movements.

aquatopia.jpg

This will bring the swan boats into the new generation in a fresh and exciting way while still holding onto the spirit and laid back nature of the original attraction. It's sure to make the surrounding area of Cinderella's Castle into one of the most photographed areas of the park!

FINAL PROJECT- @IDInstitute's Submission
Redemption for DAK!

In this final challenge, I was tasked with reviving three former attractions from Disney's Animal Kingdom, not including parades :p ;) Of course, with this being the youngest park, there wasn't the largest selection to choose from, which can be seen as quite the challenge. However, given the limitations, what the eventual concept became sits very well with the future of Disney's Animal Kingdom and Walt Disney World as a whole.

Below is a detailed website database that holds all of the plans for Disney Animal Kingdom's 50th Anniversary, which as I can promise you right now, features lots of exciting and enticing new offerings that will really make this the biggest celebration ever.

"Wait, IDI, but, why?" you may be asking yourself. "50th Anniversary? Where did that come from?" In order to make the inclusion and return for the three attractions smooth and a beautiful transition, as well as create an amazing celebration and PR opportunity for WDW, these three attractions will be worked into the 50th to create one incredible event. How, however, I won't give away just yet! There's so much to explore on your own!

I hope you enjoy this final submission, and would like to wish good luck to @TheOriginalTiki, @Flippin'Flounder, and @DSquared. It's been an amazing season, and I can only hope for one heck of a finish!

At D23 2019, after Bob Igers retirement, new CEO John Doe announced a 3 phase expansion to Epcot. The first phase, opening in 2021, will bring much needed capacity to the park, in the form of refreshed rides of old! You can read about the new additions below.

Production Avenue

Production Avenue will be a new land to Disney's Hollywood Studios that wil be themed to the process of making film and television. The land will feature a shop, a restaurant, and three former attractions making returns to the park to symbolize it's original purpose of taking a look at the entertainment buisness.

TSI Production Avenue.jpg

Number 1 on the map will be the first returning attraction, The Monster Sound Show. This interactive attraction originaly invited guests to work in the sound department adding goofy sounds to a Steve Martian short. This new short would have guests using a remote attached to their headphones in a theater to add sounds to a short starring Bill Hader revolving around a wacky trip to New York City. There, Bill encounters some crazy clowns under the big top, an encounter with a flock of pigeons, and getting lost in the subway system. Think Mr. Bean but with more dialogue and a bit less dumbed down. Some of the sounds to be used would be a Wilhelm scream, a few bings and bongs, a cat, and other classic sounds that adds to the overall e xperience and shows the fun of working as a sound editor on a movie or TV show.

Number 2 on the map will be a new restaurant themed to an orchestra recording the theme for a movie. The Philharmonic will be a sit down restaurant in the middle of a recording session, with the inside surrounded by AA musicians playing their instruments. The menu will be a regular American style similar to an Applebees or Fridays. The interesting part comes with the background music. The background music will be a various number of famous movie themes from movies like Star Wars, Wizard of Oz, and of course the Disney classics. Now, as these songs play, the AAs will change pace in playing to make it seem as if they are actually playing the music. This will be a new experience using AAs and music to immerse guests like never before. Littered around the restaurant will also be props from the most famous musicals of all time like Singin in the Rain, Wizard of Oz, and The Sound of Music

Number 3 on the map will be a new shop themed to a prop shop. The Prop Shop Boutique will be a small store selling merchandise from the park. In the store will be some famous props that were taken out when the entire left side of the park was closed for Star Wars and Pixar (which you can also see in the map above).

Number 4 on the map will be the second attraction brought back, Superstar Television. This new interactive attraction will show off both the wonders of green screen, the interactive technology found in Turtle Talk, and the fun of working on an almost live television set. Using the green screen, guests have a choice of joining Jimmy Kimmel Live for an interview, Phineas and Ferb to help Agent P defeat Doofensmirtz, Gravity Falls to enter your mind and encounter Bill, Best Friends Whenever to travel through time with the girls, or Jeapordy to play a quick round. You are put in front of the screen with a helper guide and are shown you in the show in a TV in fron of you. You then interact wi the characters, and can buy the video you filmed with your favorite show for $15.99.

Number 5 on the map will be the return of the Studio Backlot Tour. The queue will be again themed genericly and will lead into a set. But this set is no longer a pool, but now a small dirt patch where the plane scene from Raiders is moved (since the attraction will be replaced by Star Wars). Guests then move on to a walking tour. This walking tour is both indoors and outdoors and uses some of the more famous props from the original attraction, like Herbie. There are also some new props on display, like Force Awakens lightsabers, Avengers costume props, and a special spot for upcoming films by Disney. But to replace Catastrophe Canyon, there will be a recreation of the finale of Roger Rabbit. This is to pay homage to all of the Roger Rabbit themeing that has since been taken out of the Studios, even though it was a perfect fit at the time.

As you can see, these new additions will serve the original purpose of the park and will entertain guests with attractions that with a little bit of reworking can be sustained as one of the parks more famous icons. Hope you enjoyed!

Critiques

@TheOriginalTiki

Fantastic project Tiki! Let's pick your proposal apart! Love the choice for Toad. Has so much potential! However, I feel as if you kind of expected one to know the story, as I know you've been to DL several times. However, I personally have no knowledge of it whatsoever and by having its only story setup details in the queue, it'll go over many guests heads. I'd say a preshow would have added to the attraction. In addition, with the two sides of the attraction, I feel like only half the story is told in each. But that's just what I got out of it. But, as for Toad, those were my only critiques, fantastic job with it! It was extremely fun to read it! Now, onto Alien Encounter... I really enjoyed that as well. I liked the idea of having guests test new technology. While its not the most creative, I think that it really works well here. Now, onto the Swan Boats. I just feel that this is a weak link in your otherwise stellar lineup of returning attractions. First of all, the Aquatopia ride vehicles must sit on top of no more than a few inches of water. Therefore, I feel some of the classic water deepness effects that Disney does so well would be lost. In addition, Aquatopia's ride vehicles are extremely bulky, and I feel that that bulky-ness would clash with the elegant hub. Speaking of the hub, it's recent redo has dramatically reduced the moat space, plus the swan boat dock is now all pathway and pavement. Where would the queue and loading area be? Honestly, MK has so many past attractions to choose from, and I don't think that you made the right choice with the swan boats. Overall, good job!

@IDInstitute

Great job IDI! Let's pick apart your proposal! First of all, I LOVED the website. I'd say in the top three websites created during the lift of The Sole Imagineer. The music, the background video, perfectly evoke's animal kingdom's theme and tone. Bravo! First off, I really hoped that you would bring back the River Boats. They have SO much potential. But, I feel like you just brought them back in the same format and design as before. While there would be dock improvements, I would have like to see you add show scenes to make them an actual attraction worth riding. There was a concept a while back where someone did this and it blew me away. Plus, you say you're advertising these additions for the 50th, but wouldn't that be doing exactly what you said you wouldn't do, advertise them for something that their not? I feel like 2/3 of your additions aren't very marketable, to be honest. Tarzan Rocks seems like a good show... But honestly, do you realize how much of a congestion this would make. It works for MK because people can easily bypass the crowds and go into their land of choice. But here, the same path leads to the same area... It wouldn't be feasible whatsoever. Other than that however, I feel like it was nice to see Tarzan be given some screen time in the parks. Now, onto Dinoland. I LOVED the idea! I always felt Dinosaur felt all by itself in Dinoland, so the addition of these exhibits would greatly improve the area's theme. Well done! And overall, good job!

@Flippin'Flounder

I'd say that @TheOriginalTiki made a big mistake in handing Epcot to someone else! Epcot by far has the most interesting history, and I was really looking forward to seeing what you could do with it! For World of Motion, stellar idea in not removing any attractions, just adding new pavilions to increase capacity. As for the attraction, it felt just a little similar to Spaceship Earth, but I feel if you emphasized the invention of various forms of transport just a little bit more, it would have been perfect. Also, a boat ride for Journey into Imagination I feel could lend itself well, but I would have loved to see you play with a unique ride system, use your imagination! ;) But, you didn't do that with the ride system, but I feel the next best thing is a boat, so good job. You said the attraction would go adjacent to the Inside Out attraction (which I think would do extremely well), why don't you just morph the two into one Imagination pavilion? It has tons of potential! As for the Horizons attraction, I would have loved to see more detail. The ideas were there, but I feel like more detail would have made your submission a major contender this week. Overall, fantastic job Flippin'!

@DSquared

Good job DSquared! Now, as for DHS, there's so much you can do, considering the amount of stuff that's recently closed. But, the major things of substance were the production aspects of the park, so concentrating them into one, smaller area was the best that you could've done, I guess. But, I feel trying to move away from the park's old theme would have been best, considering how much effort their putting into the park to remove it. But, oh well. Love the map, by the way! I love how you went above and beyond with including more than just the attractions and added restaurants and such to really fill out there area, so props for that! Overall, more detail! I would have loved to see how you would theme the facades, how transitions would work, etc. In general, everything was nice! Not out of this world, but pretty good!
