Episode 9 Immunity Challenge
Innoventions After Party

Welcome to your next Immunity Challenge!

Once again, immunity is back up for grabs.

IMG_9858.JPG

At Disneyland, the Carousel Theater is one of the oldest buildings in Tomorrowland. It used to house the Carousel of Progress, then America Sings and now, Innoventions. The newest attraction to be put into the downstairs area of the Carousel Theater is an exhibit for Disneyland's 60th Anniversary. But, what happens after that? For this challenge, you must create something new for the Innoventions building. This means that you also must replace the upstairs portion of Innoventions. What you put into the space is completely up to you. It could be a new restaurant, a new attraction or something else! In addition, you may put multiple experiences, but be realistic! That's it, the rest is up to you!

Your concepts must be turned in by Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 8:30 PM EST. Your submission must not include more then 15 photos and no less than 5 sentences. Now that you have been merged, you must create your concepts on your own, without the aid of others.

Innoventions After Party

Welcome young and old to Tommorowland! Here you will notice Innoventions has gone away to be replaced with two new attractions and one new store. Taking up the majority of the two floors will be the new trackless dark ride, Big Hero 6 : City Saviors. On the first floor will be the attractions gift shop, San Fransokyo Exports. Lastly on the second floor will be Hiro's Workshop where guests will be able to find and meet Hiro and Baymax both in their battle armor. The new building will be a themed mixture between The San Fransokyo Institute of Technology and Science with the current Tommorowland.

Big Hero 6 : City Saviors

Queue -
Guests will be transported into the Institute, and will be able to pass by 5 areas. Those being Honey Lemon's Chemical Work Place, Gogo's Speed Testing Site, Wasabi's Pristine Station, The Robot Factory and The Recreational Area. Honey Lemon's Chemical Workplace will have elemental charts on the wall, a large pink ball on a podium titled The Pink Puffer Smoke Bomb. When guests pass by it they can smell the scent of sweet bubblegum. Honey Lemon will working furiously at her table combining chemicals together. She will have her IPod on listening to it rather loudly guests will be able to hear Los Del Mar singing Macarena. Every once and a while she will look up and yell "Hi Everyone!" or "¡Hola!".

Next will Gogo's Speed Testing Site here guests will see Gogo is on her bike with Electro Magnetic wheels trying to see how fast they will go. Guests will see and feel what it's like to be passed by a bike moving at 50 mph. They will also see plenty of blueprints for her high-speed inventions as well as scrap piles of unsuccessful discs of different colors. Next will be Wasabi's Pristine Station guests will see Wasabi working on his plasma slicers as they flicker on and off. Next to him will be a organized tool table. Occasionally he will complain about some guests and tell them not to touch anything that will make the room unorganized.

Continuing on from there guests will find The Robot Factory here you can see plenty of broken robots and some scraps of wiring and metal. However on the assembly line there will be one robot of interest his name C0-P he will be in several pieces, but he will be able to talk and most importantly sing. He will be heard singing a barely audible updated version of Theirs A Great Beautiful Tomorrow. The final section of the queue will have some sofas and living chairs and then Fred in the school mascot's costume lying down of a sofa sleeping and snoring. Then once guests leave they will enter the loading docks for the ride.

Ride Experience -
Safety Spiel : Hello Visitors. My name is Baymax, and I am your healthcare advisor. Please keep your arms, legs, and objects in the hovercraft at all times. Parents please keep an eye out for your young ones as they shouldn't get hurt. Be safe, and goodbye.

The vehicles will start to move and enter the outside room, and see a new villain has started to wreak havoc on San Fransokyo. Their name is The Invader, a sinister villain who makes it his point to go to the most advanced cities in the world and steal their technology. The Invader will be seen hovering over buildings of San Fransokyo as he points to your vehicle using a mechanical attracting hand. This will make the guests to start to move forward in his direction. Guests will also see the outside of the Institute as well as some beautiful trees and a "pond". Across the pong on the other side of the villain will be many towering buildings as well as some of the floating objects/blimps. Towering in the distance it the Golden Gate Japanese Style Bridge. (The hovering villain and floating objects/blimps will be done by screens. Many of the buildings in this room will be using the tactic of forced perspective)

big-hero-6-visdev-san-fransokyo-BH6.003.jpg

Soon guests start to go forward and rush into their next room where it seems like they are hovering upwards. (Guests will be going in an elevator in their vehicle. As the vehicle shots out a new one will come in. The whole elevator is covered with projection scrims.) As guests hover upwards they will see they are flying upwards past buildings and windows. The vehicle will shoot out and guests will be hovering near the top of a building. Here their capture is waiting on the roof. They will come face to face with The Invader as he starts to cackle evilly sending shivers down one's spines. He will move his hand around with his mechanical attracting hand as he speaks and laughs.

The Invader : Looks as if I have taken San Fransokyo's greatest technology yet a hovercraft!
Hiro : Not so fast! (Hiro and Baymax blast through a hole made in a building's ceiling wearing their super suits.) That is property of San Fransokyo Institute of Technology and Science, and you should leave that here!
The Invader : Very well then. I'll just take you and your robot companion! Look at those suits positively stunning! And the technology must be amazing. Goodbye hovercrafts and hello Super Suits!
Hiro : What no! (Hiro, Baxmax, and The Invader will all be animatronics)

The Vehicles will stop hovering as The Invader stops controlling the vehicle and goes for Hiro and Baymax. The Invader does one final wave sending the vehicles backwards spinning as they turn to face a screen stimulating falling to their death.

Fred : Don't worry Hiro I have them!
(Fred will jump out of a window wearing his super suit hitting the vehicle to right sending it into the neighboring building)
Fred : Wasabi! Gogo! Go they're on their way.

jumpsuper.gif

The vehicles will go into the next room while spinning as the stop spinning the vehicle will stimulate crashing onto a building floor roughly. The vehicle will then continue to move straight in a line to a screen. The vehicle will pass cubicles with some very surprised workers.
Then in a certain time the wall the was always whole will get cut by Wasabi's Plasma Slicers. Once the hole is complete it will fall out letting Wasabi and Gogo get in. (The said wall is done by the one screen in the room)

Wasabi : Finally we got to you! Gogo hurry put on the electro mag discs for the Hovercraft!
Gogo : Fine I'm going!
(Gogo will get on her back and start rolling to under the vehicle. Several hisses and hammering will be heard as Gogo inserts her electro mag discs)
Gogo : Their ready!
Wasabi : Ok, good work Gogo. You guys have to get out of here! It's dangerous here with The Invader on the loose.(As he says that Baymax and Hiro will fly by being chased by The Invader he is using a gun that shoots out sticky goo) See! That's what I mean! Gogo installed electro mag discs to the hovercraft you should make a speedy escape. Honey Lemon will help once she gets here. Now Gogo and I have to go and help the rest of the team fight!
Gogo : Stop talking and lets go! (Gogo speeds out of the room grabbing Wasabi dragging him with her)
Wasabi : Be safe!

mayans.jpg

The vehicles will spin around and rush out of the office building. The vehicles will then go out by the window. Honey Lemon will then be outside throwing out chemicals forming big orange bouncy substances. Honey Lemon will be screaming out if your all right, be careful and other encouraging things as the hovercrafts bounce. When ever the hovercraft bounces the vehicles will go down then up like a spring three times. The vehicles will spin around to face the next one as they do this. (This scene will take place in the elevator) Once the vehicles leave the elevator they are transported to the streets of San Fransokyo. Honey Lemon will be waiting (Animatronic) for the guests.

Honey Lemon : Great your okay! Okay so you guys have to go take a right on Institute Street and keep going straight to get there. Go! I have to help the rest of the team!

The vehicles will then turn around and launch forwards through the streets of San Fransokyo. They will pass by many cars and a near collision with the trolley. As well as the Police Station and Lucky Cat Café along with other buildings.

San_Fransokyo_Cass's_Cafe.jpg

Guests will then get to the Institute and see The Invader has captured Baymax, and is currently standing on top of the glass roof of the institute. Around the steps of the Institute the rest of the Big Hero 6 are watching. The Invader will then start to cackle followed by chatter. (The Invader and Baxmax will be done by screen, the rest of the big hero 6 will be animatronics.)

The Invader : Well, well looks I win! And what's this an institute filled with inventions with MY name on them!
Hiro : You'll never get away with this!
Rest of The Big Hero 6 : Yeah!
The Invader : I already have, so go home kids! (The Glass is heard cracking from the weight of Baymax and The Invader) What was that!
Hiro : Hurry get inside we need to stop The Invader and get back Baymax!

The vehicle will stimulate climbing up stairs and then it will enter the Institute. Here guests will see The Invader tied up next to a pile of glass and other rubble. As the Big Hero 6 thank you for visiting the Institute and San Fransokyo. As for compensation Hiro will offer free "melt your face off chicken wings" from Lucky Cat Café.
big-hero-6-team-disney.png
The vehicles will then come to the loading dock and guests will be on their way too...

San Fransokyo Exports
San Fransokyo will be a gift store selling everything Big Hero 6. Rather it be attraction themed merchandise or San Fransokyo postcards they have it! The store will be themed to a fan club to the Big Hero 6 located inside the Institute of Science and Technology. They will even have a free recipe for Aunt Cass's Chicken Wings if you ask politely (Hiro did say he will get you free chicken wings, right?)
Big-Hero-6-Merchandise-big-hero-6-37653604-640-640.jpg

Hiro's Workplace
Hiro's Workplace will be located above the gift store. The way to get here will be by ramp in the queue and through a different ramp guests will be able to get back to ground level. Guests will be able to visit Hiro and Baymax in their Super Suits inside Hiro's Workplace. This will be however the workplace from the Institute of course!

And thus the clouds parted, and the angels did sing as the booming voice of God came down from the heavens to proclaim "HE HATH RETURNED." And on that day, @JokersWild presented a mediocre project featuring half backed ideas because he couldn't quite figure out exactly what he wanted, and how he wanted to do it, but he really didn't want to not turn in a project AGAIN after Zweiland had been prematurely eliminated before him, and before he continues to ramble, he would like to present his project to you...momentarily.

"Hulk Encounter", located inside Stark Expo (Previously Innoventions)

The world is changing in a number of ways. If were playing by the logical of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, heroes from all corners of Earth and all reaches of the galaxy have started popping up and invading our pop culture landscape. Disney's "Marvel" film franchise has become the top grossing blockbuster film series in history.

The Marvel characters have a history as long and colorful as many of the classic Disney animated films. Through the early 1960s to present they've been making their mark on generations upon generations of young people. Folks like my dad who used to use trash can lids as Captain America shields are now being treated to that same sort of nostalgic imagery while kids of their own have an entire cross-connected cinematic world the likes of which has never been realized until now.

Short story is...the MCU is a hit, and it's not going away any time soon. With that in mind, the aging Innoventions has been playing host to Marvel Meet N' Greets for a while now anyways, which has become the lifeline of that entire attraction. It's time to go all in and turn the historic Carousel theater into an attraction that's guaranteed to stand the test of time as long as Imagineering takes the care and attention to detail into crafting this attraction that made these characters timeless household names to begin with. Strap on some Stark Tech, because things are about to get Smashing!

Exterior and Outside Queue

The rotating Carousel Theater will play a large role in the attraction. The experience is broken up into two parts. Much like Roger Rabbit or Indiana Jones Adventure the queue itself acts as a sort of walk-through attraction to get you to the main event, in this case being the titular "Hulk Encounter".

On less crowded days, guests will be let right into the Carousel building which has been entirely decked out for a brand new Stark Expo. The entire rotating structure is covering in portraits of The Avengers and other Marvel characters during iconic scenes from the movies, except done in a distinct Mary Blair style of simplicity. This year's Stark Expo is a lighthearted look at what The Avengers have achieved since the events in New York from the first team up film.

On more crowded days there will be netted canopies that are color coordinated to the theater which wraps around the building, so that when an extended queue is needed it is readily available without blocking off regular walkways.

Welcome to Stark Expo

Stark Expo will be held in the first floor of what was previously Innoventions, while the main event which is "Hulk Encounter" will entirely take over the second floor. Upon getting onto the "grounds" of the Stark Expo you are treated to a variety of different technology showcases all in a visual flavor that calls back to the iconic 1964 New York Worlds Fair.

stark_expo_2010_image_art_design_01.jpg

As you go further down, you start seeing an array of posters and blueprints, a new breed of artificial intelligence which Tony Stark has nicknamed "Ultron". Blueprint plans are also in place to transfer the AI of Tony's trusted robo-butler Jarvis into the mechanical super hero known as "Vision". With this info, we realize that the timeline of this attraction is shortly before the start of the second Avengers movie in which Stark's Ultron program goes awry.

After passing through a museum of spare Iron Man parts and different suits (many of which are reproduced props used in the finale of Iron Man 3) guests ascend a staircase where we are ushered into the private lab of one Bruce Banner, a close associate to Stark. Going up the staircase, guests can notice a hole in wall and looking in can vaguely make out a fully formed Ultron watching Pinocchio on an old TV. The "I've Got No Strings On Me" song is playing, and...if you've seen any of the "Age of Ultron" trailers you can guess how Ultron interprets this song.

Description of Labs

Stark Labs will be a huge indoor theater space able to account for several AA robots, Hulks, and other Marvel-ous creatures. The ride system will be a hybrid of Carousel of Progress and Alien Encounter, with just a little bit of Mission Space style spinning thrown in for good measure. Guests enter the theater directly up the staircase from the first level and are then seated into one of 300 individual seats in the lab's "observation deck". The seats come complete with over-the-shoulder restraints in case of any "unexpected crisis situations".

In the center of a lab is a giant dome that has been completely blocked off by steel. As the show starts, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark comes on a big screen in the lab and introduces us to the experiment. The steel goes down over the dome which is now glass, and we see a very realistic looking AA of Mark Rufalo's Bruce Banner sitting calmly on a hospital bed.

Banner's Mission Statement

Banner explains that for the last decade of his life, he's been haunted by the creature known as the incredible Hulk. While at times the Hulk has served the Avengers very well with his brute strength, most notably in the battle of New York against Loki and his army. Still, the Hulk continues to haunt Banner much more than help, and with this latest experiment he hopes to free himself of the creature once and for all.

The general idea is to put Banner into such an enraged state that he and the Hulk become physically separated, meaning the Hulk will manifest itself outside of Bruce Banner's body and take on a consciousness all its own. A consciousness literally born out of rage. But don't worry! Stark Security is standing by to take down the big green guy with tranquilizer darts. The goal is to train the creature of the Hulk to become a fighting machine for The Avengers while Banner is freed from the burden. Sounds like a fool-proof plan, right!? I mean after all, this IS a theme park attraction. Stuff NEVER goes wrong during theme park attractions!

...And...Something Goes Wrong!

After establishing the means of the experiment, the steel over the dome is brought back up as Banner is subjected to extreme conditions meant to draw out the beast. We hear an intense screaming from the dome followed by silence. The steel shuts down over the glass and to our shock we see a passed out Banner lying in the hospital bed...And a fully realized 12 foot AA of the Hulk standing squeezed into the bubble. The Hulk of course is in a rage, so cannons come down into the dome to shoot him to sleep.

Just then we hear the sound of foreign laughter as a projected flash bolts across the screen. Suddenly the glass dome breaks and we see Hulk tied at the knees by QuickSilver.

quick_article_story_large.jpg

"You Avengers think you can use Hulk as a new weapon. That work out so well for you with Ultron!" he mocks.

"Pietro!" hisses a female voice. The Scarlet Witch literally floats down to the floor level of the lab. Projected energy starts to glow around her and QuickSilver (both AAs made to look like their respective MCU actors) and Scarlet Witch fires it onto the Hulk. Her eyes suddenly glow dark green and QuickSilver chuckles.

timthumb.php

"Try it sister...unleash your new power...show these fools the true power of the Hulk!"

We realize that Scarlet Witch has taken control of the Hulk. Every movement she makes mimicks the movement of the giant Hulk AA. It's hear that the lights start flashing in and out and the attraction starts to become similar to Alien Encounter. The visual trick that gets employed here is two Hulk AAs are actually in the theater on either side. As the seats begin to spin Carousel Theater style, except much faster, were thrown off by just how much of a presence Hulk seems to have over the lab.

Suddenly there's a mechanical failure and a terrifying evil chuckle only the likes of James Spader could provide. Ultron comes down to the center of the broken dome and reveals he's the one Scarlet Witch and QuickSilver are working for.

"You Avengers consider yourselves to be so heroic...So untouchable. And yet all it took as one easily malleable girl with equally malleable powers to bring your strongest asset to it's knees."

ultron0-will-this-be-the-avengers-2-age-of-ultron-post-credit-scene.jpeg

Hulk continues to rage out as Scarlet Witch struggles with the massive power being inside his head has given her. Suddenly Iron Man enters the scene to try to calm the Hulk. Hulk grabs Iron Man with both arms and has him in a position where Tony Stark is about to be ripped in half. We know it's Tony and not just a machine because the mask peels back to reveal his RDJ face.

Tony yells to Bruce who remains passed out on the hospital bed. In the midst of the chaos, Tony admits that trying to free Bruce of the Hulk, and especially having the arrogance to assume he'd be able to control the creature outside of Banner, was a crucial mistake.

"Doc...you gotta wake up buddy. Come on. Were all counting on you!"

Tony tries a couple more little pep talks before Hulk pulls him more and finally he lets out, "Ah screw it...Hey NERD! Get up and take responsibility once in your life will ya!"

Banner pops up in a rage, sees the situation at hand, and rushes directly into the Hulk. With a dramatic flash of light, Banner disappears and we can tell right away that he has transferred himself back into the Hulk's body. Grunting loudly, the only thing he can think to say is "Hulk...Tired". He lays down and another flash of light reveals the past out Banner, spirit of the Hulk still raging inside of him.

The lights go dark once again and we see a video feed of Ultron with Scarlet Witch and QuickSilver.

"Impressive, Avengers. You've shown to have more control of the Hulk than I was anticipating. Make no mistake though. This is only the beginning. Our armies will rise, our strings will be cut...your hope will be lost. Its only a matter of time before the Age of..." the video is cut off by a feed of Tony who apologizes for the mess and ushers guests out of the theater.

Upon returning to the first floor, guests can either exit the Stark Expo or participate in a variety of different activities which are meant to showcase the various Marvel technologies that have been on display in the MCU. Four "booths" will surround this area of Stark Expo.

The Collector's Booth features obscure Marvel technology as well as several of the Infinity Gauntlets.
The Carter Family Collection features a wide range of 1940s Marvel technology as seen on ABC's "Agent Carter".
Black Widow and Hawkeye play host to a meet N' greet as well as a small Training Academy type show for younger visitors who might find Hulk Encounter too intense.
Finally we have a huge collection of various Iron Man armors through the years, from early prototypes developed by Howard Stark to the famous "Hulk-Buster" Armor.

And that concludes our tour of Stark Expo and Hulk Encounter replacing Innoventions. The Marvel Movies have reached a point in our pop culture landscape that I truly believe these characters deserve more permanent presence outside of Meet N' Greets. Hopefully this project is just one small step in that direction.

The building that currently holds Innoventions is, perhaps, one of the most important structures in all of Disneyland. What started as a simple showcase of modern home appliances and electricity turned eventually turned into one of the most revolutionary theme park attractions with one of the most disgustingly catchy songs. Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress was a one of a kind attraction, residing in the back of Tomorrowland in Disneyland’s famous Carousel Theater, until 1973 to be moved to the new Walt Disney World, right at the doorstep of Disney’s EPCOT, which was a cousin to Disney’s carousel.

Sadly, however, the carousel theater has been rather neglected. Though Innoventions originally used the carousel for a preshow, the mechanism has since fallen into disrepair. With the building becoming a history exhibit for Disneyland’s 60th anniversary, it’s safe to say that this once-iconic attraction will fall even further into disrepair. Thus I have made it my mission to not only bring the Carousel Theater back to its former glory, but also to update the pavilion and once again make it a modern experience for millions of guests to enjoy. Now, with this overly long intro out of the way, allow me to present to you:

The Restaurant of the Future

I had originally wanted to put an attraction in this building, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I really couldn’t fit this much history into one single attraction...and I couldn’t figure out how exactly I wanted to do it. So, instead we get a restaurant. It works. Gets the job done. I’m rambling. Project is due in an hour. And away we go!

Design

So the main goal of this restaurant is to really get back to the roots of the building. Because of this, I am happy to announce that the carousel theater is working once more. But that’s not all. The second floor of the building has also been outfitted to spin, just like the bottom floor. With twice the carousel power, The Restaurant of the Future can finally get some kineticism back into Tomorrowland, a feature which has been sorely missed for more than two decades.

The bottom floor of the building is a regular restaurant, which I will get to later. The second floor, however, is a spinning observation deck/ exhibit. The front half of the wall, the side looking out onto Disneyland, is now completely glass, giving a stunning view of the entire park. The back wall, which really just looks out into the backstage areas, now holds a recreation of Mary Blair’s famous “The Spirit of Creative Energies Among Children” mural. Surrounding the observation deck are various plaques giving information on Tomorrowland’s history, featuring some props from Adventures Thru Inner Space, Rocket to the Moon, and even Disneyland’s beloved Peoplemover. This second floor can only be accessed by the ramp outside the building that currently leads guests to the entrance of Innoventions.

8-1969_TileMural.jpg

The outside of the building stays roughly the same, with the only real change being a change in signage (obviously)

The Restaurant

As stated earlier, the main feature of The Restaurant of the Future is its use of the old carousel theatre. The concept is essentially identical to the Garden Grill at EPCOT’s The Land pavilion. The menu is rather similar as well, serving typical, and mostly healthy, American food in family style servings.

The front walls are entirely glass, giving guests great views of Autopia and Tomorrowland, as they make their way around the building. The decor is decidedly ‘60s. Light and sleek-looking, as if something out of The Jetsons. The walls that are not glass are bright blue and softly lit, featuring a few recognizable logos from around Tomorrowland. Hanging from the ceiling, against the back walls, are a set of four large posters, advertising both vintage Tomorrowland attractions, as well as the 1964 World’s Fair.

Also at the back of the restaurant sit five rather iconic Tomorrowland props. One single ride vehicle from The Peoplemover, Flying Saucers, Rocket Jets, and Adventures Thru Inner Space. These sit on raise pedestals in two sets of two. In between each set of vehicles sits none other than the Mighty Microscope. As guests make their way around the Restaurant of the Future, they will also hear some of Tomorrowland’s most famous and iconic pieces of music.

Perhaps the most exciting part of The Restaurant of the Future is its centerpiece. In the center, non-moving section of the carousel theater sits a scale model of the famous Disneyland Moonliner Rocket. This centerpiece is so massive that it reaches up all the way to the observation deck on the second floor, giving guests an up-close look at the formerly inaccessible prop.

attachment.php

The restaurant of the future is truly a unique experience coming to Disneyland that will surely celebrate the long and rich history of this long-neglected corner of the park.

In addition, you may put New attraction or something else! In addition, you may put multiple experiences, but be realistic! That's it, the rest is up to you!

Now, coming soon to Tomorrowland....
The Tomorrowland Planet Center

The Tomorrowland Planet Center is not just another new gift shop, nor is it just another huge e-ticket. This new area is a unique attraction, taking up the plot of the former Innoventions building. Inspired by the Future World pavilions of Epcot, here you will find interactive, yet not tacky, activities/experiences for the family, a one-of-a-kind dining experience, and even a new entrance to the PeopleMover in a newly-refurbished building. A one-of-a-kind experience, while also staying realistic. So stick around, there's so much to explore and discover at....

He had the most unique idea and it fits the best in Tomorrowland IMO out of all of the projects because of a lack of an IP.

1. @IDInstitute
2. @tcool - A very unique idea, but I place IDI above you because I feel that not having an IP works better
3. @Vipraa - I'm not sure how I feel about Marvel, but you had the better one of the Marvel ones IMO
5. @JokersWild - I like the direction you went, with a restaurant and an exhibit, unique, but I was left wanting more
5. @TheOriginalTiki - Same as Vipraa, not sure how well it fits

Now, castaways, tell me who you would like to vote off of the island in your PM. You may not vote for @IDInstitute
