Looking for the truth about Value Resorts

Yes, we're bringing out little crazies! This is why I'm looking at AoA. We stayed at a moderate of my choosing (POFQ) last year. The kids loved it, probably because they didn't know a place like AoA existed! . While it was lovely and quiet, you all are right, we were barely there to enjoy the loveliness.
Awesome yes i would definately stay at the AOA resort with the kids, They will love it. My DD's 6 & 3 along with my DS 8 mo will be at the AOA AUg 4th-AUg 10th 2013. So yeah you would not be wasting your money to stay somewhere you don't get to enjoy, & you can use what you save on something else on your trip

We've stayed at Movies, Music and Pop. In the moderates, we stayed at Coronado. We enjoyed our stay at each of these resorts. All were well kept and clean. If you have young kids, then take the cheaper price and stay at the values for the price and theming. If you need a little more room, Coronado is a great value for the moderate.

I am sorry but there is no significant differences between a value and moderate. I will choose any value (for the price) over a moderate. At the moderates- you are paying for scenic views but the same room type as a value. I am good on that.
Not true, the rooms at the moderate are bigger and now have queen beds. The time we stayed at POP we noticed the smaller room and how the door hit the bed when we opened it. Also the one time we stayed at a value we were shocked to see how many people were out drinking at the pool area all hours of the night and their kids were running around. It might have been an isolated thing but I doubt it since others have said the same thing. It just "feels" different at a value then a moderate the same way it is different between a moderate and a deluxe.

So you are saying people drinking at the pool late at night and kids playing is a problem??? LOL.

At 2-3 in the morning it is, especially when they are loud and keep people up. Not only that they leave trash behind I saw more then 1 beer bottle in the bushes the next morning. That is rude and disruptive not just people having a good time on vacation. At POP is the only place I have ever in over 25 trips seen so many security officers.

We have stayed at all 3 All Star resorts more than once. We never had a problem until this last trip. We were staying at All Star Sports and had a room right off the football field. When we got back to the resort at night between 11-1, there were groups of kids on the football field throwing around bottles and footballs and being SO LOUD. There was NO supervision around at all that we could see. 2 separate nights we had to call down to the front desk and have security go speak with them because it was going on 1:30am and we could not sleep. When we woke up the next morning we saw they had place a big sign on the field explaining quiet hours were between 10pm and 8am. Those were the only two morning we saw that sign up, after we called. Every time we walked to and from the room there was trash ALL OVER the football field.

We will never again stay at the All Stars. This is where most of the tour groups go and most of them seem completely void of any real supervision. If they were well behaved it would be one thing, but the groups we have come across are rude, loud and annoying and have zero respect for anyone else around them.

Look at it like this: Deluxe= elaborately themed and close to one of the major parks, big rooms, lots of space. Moderate= well themed, close to a park but not right next to it, large rooms but smaller than Deluxe. These two usually have a table service restaurant as well as walk up counter service.

Value= not really themed, can be a distance from a park. But they save you money.

It should also be noted that regardless of where you stay, you have the same priviledges as anyone else staying at a higher tier hotel. EMH especially, and dining reservations.

Go with what fits your budget.

Our honeymoon was spent at POP in the 50's section. King sized bed, well landscaped, clean, not too noisy (even with the pool right outside our door). I have stayed in Dixie Landings and the Contemporary. I liked POP, but would do Dixie Landings any day. Not so much with the Contemporary.

We generally weigh a few things when deciding which resort tier to stay at...finances, length of stay, and desire for souveniers. Ex: if we plan to spend more for say christmas decorations on a particular trip we try to stay cheaper just to stay longer. If we plan to stay at a deluxe it would be on a short trip that would be just to experience the parks. This is all predicated on our finances because if we all had the money it would be two weeks at a deluxe resort for everyone!

we stayed in the allstar music Rock section in 2000 & 2011 @ Calypso & we enjoyed it. We stay in the allstars because of only being in our room for sleep, showers & changing. Not in them much so no use spending more for something your not going to use. It fits my budget. Some on here say they don't like, some like, it just depends on each person's situation. there are pro's & con's for every resort.

That's pretty much what we do too-- though I spend a little time on my computer before heading off to bed if I find that I'm not tired enough... Strange, even after I've been walking all day. Just an insomnia issue I've got, I guess. Though I did get the heads up that they had wifi so I'm all good on that one.
How was your stay?

I was at the All-Star Movies resort this past March. I had no issues with it. My friends and I spent most of the time inside the parks. The All-Star is a good place to just crash at for the night or even take a midday break. The room was fine. It's pretty much like a Hampton Inn or a similar hotel. It is worth to be here than off property because of the free transportation and the theming. I feel like that the Value resorts have the most Disney theming than the two other class resorts. Overall, if you're mostly inside the parks stay at a Value resort. If you want to spend some days outside of the parks, then I would go to a moderate.

Thought that would've been the best way to go. Better than spending money on a hotel I'm hardly going to stay in, right? I suppose the only times I'd be spending a day or two outside of the parks would be if I had put in the money for a nicer hotel.
Although, as for the moderate resorts (and higher), I think the idea of having less of a Disney theme to it is alright. I mean, it gets your mind off of commercialism and all that.. I'unno, that might be relaxing to some people.

i don't know how many are going, and how long you plan on going, but I checked out pricing on renting dvc points for a week in mid may 2014. every dvc studio sleeps 4, and with the exception of bay lake tower and grand Floridian, they are priced at $1,500 or less, depending on which dvc resort you want to stay at. this is just for the room though. this does not include park tickets or meals. this is at www.dvcrequest.com
