Trip Report 28 Going on 8...A Birthday Trip!

Hi everyone! I’ve been home for a few days sorting & editing pictures and can’t wait to start sharing my latest trip:)

I’ve always wanted to spend my birthday in Disney World – who wouldn’t?! ;)
So when my sister suggested we go for my birthday instead of me flying out to Denver to visit (she just moved), I was in! Then I asked my parents if they would want to come and to my surprise…they said yes! They love Disney too, but we haven’t been as a family in a few years. It was later in the day when it hit me that they really said yes because it meant seeing my sister for the first time since she moved to Colorado  haha. But they really were excited to all be together and spend my birthday in Disney World too:)

We stayed Friday, July 8th to Tuesday, July 12th at Port Orleans French Quarter! My sister and I loved this resort the last time we stayed and couldn't wait for my parents to see it too, we knew they'd love the theming.

Here we are on our last family trip in April 2013

Mom- Phyllis
Me- Sam
Sister- Alyssa
Dad- Larry

There were a few hiccups in the week leading up to and day of the trip...

It was about a week before we were leaving when I found out that one of my admission guest passes was lost by a friend on our last trip. I knew I could replace it but after doing some research I found out it would take two weeks in the mail, or you could do it in person at a site in Celebration. But they close at 4 on Fridays, and I was going to be landing at 2:30, which would be cutting it too close. I decided to apply for a new pass online and hope it would come before we leave. I also started panicking about all the time I spent planning out our fastpasses and not knowing if they’d be able to be applied to a new guest pass. All was better when the new guest pass arrived a few days after I ordered the replacement and they assured me the fastpasses would transfer right over to the new pass with no issues. Crisis 1 averted!

Speaking of fastpasses…some of our fastpasses on my guest passes weren’t showing up, I called several times and everyone gave me a different answer and was told to check back in a couple days and the system should be fixed. That never happened. I was told I used all the allotments I had for my guest passes, I knew there wasn’t any truth to that, then finally a very helpful cast member made new fastpasses for those missing to match the rest of the ones on my main entrance pass. Crisis 2 averted!

And then the biggest problem…my sister flew in from Denver early on the 8th. I flew out from LaGuardia at 11, and my parents were on a 6:30pm flight from Newark. Around noon, my mom gets an email that JetBlue had cancelled their flight and put them on a new one 24 hours later. I’m on the plane and totally helpless (and freaking out). My mom was able to get them on a flight that left about 90 minutes earlier and would connect through Boston and still get in Friday night, just a few hours later. Well, that flight ends up being delayed more and more and eventually there is no way if they ever got to Boston, they wouldn’t even make their connection. So again start looking for another flight and JetBlue puts them on a 5:30am flight Saturday out of JFK. That was the best they were going to get and thankfully I live just outside of NYC so they had a place to stay overnight since jetblue wouldn’t give them a hotel or anything for transportation.
I was, and still am annoyed by the whole thing though. They blamed the weather. I’m a meteorologist. Don’t blame the weather when I see it is NOT raining at or near Newark. Of course safety is the number one priority, and if there had been storms at Newark I would completely understand. But to cancel a flight 7 hours in advance for the chance of a storm, which never happened...I just don’t get it. What is even more frustrating is that all the other airlines were flying out at the time their original flight was supposed to leave…ANYWAY knowing my parents were for sure on a flight first thing the next morning, my sister and I set out to enjoy our night together! We still felt bad they had spent all afternoon sitting around and dealing with the airport, but they were happy too just to be on a flight in the morning.

Sorry that was a lot, but NOW TO THE GOOD STUFF :)

I worked the morning before I left and when I walked into my office I was greeted with the best surprise! An early Disney princess birthday bash, complete with a blow up Mickey, princess figures lining my computer, a Frozen balloon and Disney music in the background. I’m so lucky that my coworkers are also some of my best friends. They know me very well and really got me good that morning. (ps. I’ve managed to keep those decorations up for over a week now ;) haha)

After work I raced to the airport where I learned I was upgraded to first class…woo! Then we were off to Orlando!

We landed early and I quickly made it on to the magical express and before I knew it, was looking at this!

Soon enough we were pulling into our home, I hopped off the bus and hustled to our room where my sister, Alyssa, was waiting! It was great to see her after being apart for 3 months, especially since we were in DISNEY! We had so much to catch up on, but had several days to do it- so we quickly changed, grabbed our ears and ran off to Magic Kingdom!

On our way to the bus we picked up a birthday button!:D:D

One of the things I was most excited to see was Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire and we needed to hurry to make the last show of the day! Those pictures coming up next :)[/url]

The scavenger hunt was the cutest idea! And ahh, say yes to the dress! Disney wedding would be my ultimate dream. Think my Dad would murder me first, though! Loved that you watched the storm from outside, I always try to and then get so scared!! And my goodness girl, your photos are ridiculous! So beautiful!
Ah thank you so much!! I can't even imagine what a dream a Disney wedding would be. I need to work on winning the lottery first haha.

Your FOF pictures though...I WANT TO GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW! :p
Thank you! hahaha I want to too!!

Thanks for the updates! Wow your FOF pictures are sooo great! The brightness of the colours! Happy that we are going to see it live in 79 days!
Thank you!! That's so awesome your trip is getting close :) it'll be here before you know it!

As soon as the parade was over we were practically running to get a boat to Fort Wilderness. As we are under the monorail, there was an incredibly close lightning bolt and instant thunder! Everyone jumped but we continued to what didn’t seem like the safest place, the boat dock haha. They said the boats would still be running, they were just swapping out for the indoor boats as they are safer. We didn’t have to wait too long before a boat came and we were still ahead of schedule since the parade went earlier, but in the meantime there was lightning all around us. It was a scary walk/run from the covered dock to the boat. I was surprised the boat actually left the dock, the wind was crazy, raining sideways, and a ton of lighting through our trip.
We made it over to the dock at the Wilderness Lodge and it was still crazy outside, some people got off but the boat remained docked. And it stayed there, and stayed there, and 15 minutes later it's still sitting there….20 minutes later (it’s 3:55 now), it’s not raining anymore, the thunder is far away and no lightning but we are still sitting here. This is when I started panicking. We were so looking forward to this dinner, it was already paid for too, I couldn’t imagine missing it. I was really getting worried and felt helpless as it was 4:00 now and we were still at the Wilderness Lodge dock. I knew there was a little leeway with the reservation time, and that the show didn’t actually start at 4, but I didn’t know how late they would allow you to be and I wouldn't expect them to care as they give fair warning of how much time to allow for travel. This was probably the 4th time of watching Festival of Fantasy and heading over to Hoop Dee Doo with arriving in plenty of time.

Then the captain announced that we would be on our way again and there was a collective sigh of relief from the whole boat, we definitely weren’t the only ones trying to make it there. Everyone ran off the boat and to Pioneer Hall. As the group of us gets there, one of the CM's working at the door sees, puts up the rope, and closes the door behind him:banghead:
Then somebody walked around the side door and they let us all in! It was about 4:15 at this point and we were all seated right away :) Thank goodness.

We all had different clothes we wanted to change in to since we’d been outside all day – and my dad had his hoop dee doo shirt he needed to put on! He ran to do that while I managed to change my shirt at my seato_Ohahaha. My mom made me a shirt to wear for hoop dee doo and my birthday; I needed to put it on and didn’t want to risk missing anything!

WE LOVE HOOP DEE DOO! Just love it. Always talk about it and reference it when we are at home. It never stops being funny to us and we love the food, especially Alyssa and my dad haha.

We've had some AWESOME waiters here and one not so great one on our visit last november. Our waiter this time wasn't that great - just not very friendly and seemed like we were inconveniencing him for asking for a drink to be refilled, etc. My sister started to get really snippy with him. I snapped at her for making us all look bad because of her attitude- I don't care if he's being semi-rude, I want to be the better person. My mom, Dad and I then killed him with kindness to make up for Alyssa haha. Wouldn't be a trip without a sister argument

Dad is literally the happiest person ever in this moment :p

My mom had no idea six pence was behind her hahah:D

We never fail to have the best time here, no matter what is going on. It always brings back memories too of going with my Nana and Pop when we were kids and they celebrated their 50th anniversary. There was no question that this would be the perfect place for a birthday dinner:)

We were stuffed and exhausted by this point but it was only about 6 and we had a whole night ahead of us! The weather was much nicer - well dry, but much more humid, still a giant improvement of the storm earlier ;) We enjoyed our calm boat back to Magic Kingdom.

I think I took this because for like the 90th time this trip, my dad was “randomly selected” haha. I really think all but one or two times throughout the trip he was picked to go through and we couldn’t help but laugh.

We took a slow stroll down main street, then dad and Alyssa went to grab us coffee. We were struggling hahah. Meanwhile my mom and I went to the emporium so she could get me two new alex and ani’s for my birthday. Ever since I saw them announce the new princess designs I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. My mom made sure I didn’t go and buy them right away so she could get them for me:D

Then we slowly headed up and all sat down in front of the castle to drink our coffee and relax for a few minutes.

The Cinderella & Aurora ones are the two new ones I picked out :inlove:

The crowds still weren’t too bad, but we were noticing a TON more groups than we had the previous two days.

Thank you so much for reading!! :)
I loved ubering to the store - it was about $10 each way and walmart was the perfect one stop for everything we needed. We didn't check bags, so getting the essential toiletrees for the 4 of us for the duration of the trip, plus a case of water, some drinks and snacks was cheaper than having to check our bags. And they dropped us off right outside our room so we didn't have to carry it all all too far :)
Definitely recommend! And open 24 hours so no missing park time ;)

After resting some, we headed off to tomorrowland!

Our first stop was Monsters Inc Laugh Floor. My sister and I find this hilarious and were excited for my parents to watch. They loved it!

We had used our first 3 FP+ earlier in the day so the rest of the night just became FP hopping! I know many of you have said the same thing – but the latest update of the My Disney Experience app allowing you to make new FP is SO convenient and fun! It turns into a little game…as soon as I tapped my band at the current FP, I was hopping back on the app to see what I could schedule next.

After Monsters, Inc., I think we hopped on Dumbo before going to visit the Great Goofini and Donaldo hahaha.

Dad’s favorite!

We were going to move on after since there was a little wait for Daisy and Minnie but my mom wanted was so excited to see them so we hopped back in line. While waiting we saw a service dog dressed in it’s Disney best AND wearing it’s own magicband!! SO cute

After pirates, it was the perfect time to head over to Main Street. We ended up in one of my favorite places to watch the fireworks. On Main Street just ahead of where it opens up to the hub. The little hill here makes such a difference and I was able to get most heads out of my pictures!

AWFUL celebrate the magic pictures, I have such a hard time with this…

Then magical birthday WISHES!:inlove:
