Your thoughts on August...

So when I was young, the fam always went in late October, and never ran into ANY crowds. Now, my friends and I have taken to going the week before Memorial Day...we also run into absolutely zero crowds, which we thought was odd, but whatever. Now it looks like we may not be able to go next May, so we were thinking about next August. Please give me all your info...bad and good. Weather, room rates, crowds, etc. Thanks!:p

It is very hot in Aug but very doable.. Crowds in late Aug arent bad..This will be our third time doing late Aug.. We just wear tanks, shorts and flip flops, bring the misting fans and mini fans and wear hip pouches ( packs) so that we dont have to carry anything and if we start to feel miserable from the heat we go back to the resort and go swimming for awhile and then shower and come back feeling refreshed. It does rain almost every afternoon but never for long but Im talking downpours sometimes..Again they only last for a couple of min and an hour later its all dried up.

The last couple weeks of August can be pretty good if you can stand the heat (drink plenty of water!) A lot of schools go back before Labor Day now, so the crowds are not as bad as they are in July. I think Value Season starts at some of the resorts then too, but JPVonDrake could tell you more about that.

August is just plain hot and humid. When we went, it did rain, but not all day kind of rain. We had downpours that didn't last long, but the rain really came down. Make sure you have a poncho on hand and drink lots of water. :)

Never been in August - too hot and crowded for my tastes. But I guess that's better than no trip ;)

As has been mentioned, last two weeks are the best bet when the American schools are back in. There may still be an increased number of Britons as the schools here don't go back until early September.

It is hot and humid with pm showers or should I say downpour that usually last about an hour or less. It is crowded, but not terribly. I recommend doing the parks either early in the morning while it is still cool or later in the day when the sun is sorta going down.

i second that! going early, is a really good idea because its not as hot and you can get a lot done before the crowds really pick up. also you can be done by the afternoon so u can go back to the hotel pool for a little while and maybe take a little nap. then before you know it u are back inthe parks for the evening fireworks where you wont have as much crowds to deal with.

Brits will be all over the parks - British schools break up for the summer around July 25th - and return early September - plenty of time to fill the place

Thats when we usually go.

Its always hot (over 100 at 2 am  ) and humid so you need to take breaks and stay hydrated. Watch for the afternoon thunderstorms too, they roll in almost every day around 2ish.

The last few years we have noticed that the crowds are not really falling off like they used to. Seems quite a few people want to get in a last summer fling and with the free dining getting a good place to eat at a decent time is becoming harder. The good Captain is correct, we alwasy seem to run into quite a few British Disney lovers when we are there (I love to listen to them talk  ).

I would rather go in February or early March to escape the Northeast winters, but we can't work them in anymore...I say take a WDW vacation whenever you can. :D

I'm going the week of the 14th. The heat I can handle, but I think you all have convinced me to carry a poncho. Which I hate doing. I'm concerned about the hurricane season though. It's the only time I can go, so if anything happens I'm up a creek without a paddle. Hopefully everything will turn out fine *fingers crossed*

Good luck!

The last few years we managed to end our trips just before the hurricanes hit.
We left WDW the day before Katrina made landfall. We always keep our ponchos with us, folded up real small in our nike type backpacks.
