Celebrity lineup set for The Mole
The identity of the next mole will be well known.

According to Variety, ABC has finished shooting its celebrity edition of the popular game show-reality program hybrid, The Mole.

Signed on for the six-week series are: Stephen Baldwin, Spin City co-star Michael Boatman, former L.A. Law cast member Corbin Bernsen, Living Single regular Kim Coles, Kathy Griffin, Frederique and Dinotopia star Erik von Detten.

Former NBA announcer Ahmad Rashad replaced Anderson Cooper as the host.

Production on the series wrapped up last month in Hawaii, and the show is expected to air beginning some time in January of next year.

Executive producer Scott Stone told Variety that he and partner David Stanley had been worried about finding celebrities to sign on to The Mole, because of the time commitment involved.

Shooting in Hawaii and allowing the celebs to bring along one friend or family member reportedly helped producers nail down the cast.

Stanley also revealed to Variety that unlike the civilian version of The Mole, the celebrities weren't sequestered during the hours they weren't participating in challenges or other forms of gameplay.

As a result, the "loneliness factor" didn't show up, Stanley said.

EMMY-AWARD WINNING SPORTS JOURNALIST AHMAD RASHAD TO HOST ABC'S CELEBRITY VERSION OF "THE MOLE"

Emmy-Award winning sportscaster and former NFL all-pro wide receiver Ahmad Rashad has signed on to host ABC's upcoming celebrity version of "The Mole," it was announced today (10/14/02). "Celebrity Mole" is set to air on ABC later this season.

"Celebrity Mole" will be a special 6-episode edition of the show that will feature seven celebrity players as they try to figure out who among them is The Mole. Each celebrity will use all their guile to uncover the clues that could lead them to a pot of up to $250,000. They must complete a series of challenging physical and mental games to earn money for the pot, which one player will eventually win. Working undercover against the team, however, is The Mole, a double agent planted by the producers to sabotage the players' efforts. It is the goal of each player to decide who they think The Mole is, then learn as much about him or her as possible. In the final dramatic episode, The Mole is revealed and the one remaining player wins the jackpot.

"We are thrilled that Ahmad has signed on to join us as host of 'Celebrity Mole,'" said Scott A. Stone "His energy, hosting expertise and competitive spirit make him the perfect choice."

"Ahmad is the perfect choice to capture all of the intensity of The Mole and yet have some fun with the celebrities that are playing," said Andrea Wong, senior vice president, alternative series and specials, ABC. "We are ecstatic that he has agreed to host this show."

"Celebrity Mole" is produced by Stone Stanley Entertainment. Scott A. Stone and David G. Stanley are the executive producers.

Seems like they didn't get the clue that nobody likes to see celebs be jerks at all, so seems like The Mole will obviosly pass over that.

Second, Anderson Cooper, the energetic host of The Mole 1 & 2 WON'T be returning as host. Seems like his CNN job is better than any reality TV show.

I really, truly loved The Mole...one of only 2 or 3 shows I would regularly watch, but the "celebrity edition" seems less than appealing. I am not at all pleased about this. What a shame, I was looking forward to the third installment, but if this is anywhere near as lame & dull as it sounds (less real life, less REAL people) then it could easily seal the series fate. It was teetering last season anyway...this isn't going to help!! Plus, I miss Anderson!!! He's not nearly as amusing on CNN.
