Worth the extra money??

My mom, sister, neices (6+2) and I are staying at ASM in Oct and getting a crib. We went into it knowing it'd be tights but figured its just for sleep/resting and the kids woud like the theming.

Well, of course I started pricing other things because that's just what I do, and it'd be an extra $480 to stay at PORS in a gardenview with the extra pull down.

I wish I could foot the whole extra cost but we just had our roof fixed and are getting a new driveway next:confused:.

It's $160 extra per person. I can do that and my sister is almost on board but my mom is less on board.

Is it worth it? How much should I try and persuade her, or just drop it and stick with ASM?

I don't want to regret it.

TIA

The PORS "pull downs" used to be pull outs that stored under the double bed, and were too short for anyone over 4' tall to sleep on. One of our family friends stayed there with one once, and half their poor kid's feet and legs were on the floor. I'd avoid them personally. Also, the "views" are not generally worth the extra money unless you're at a deluxe.

So it sounds like neither you or your sister are really sure you want to spend the extra money, and your mother is pretty sure she doesn't. So don't, if it's going to cause regrets.

Personally, with 3 adults and 2 kids (and a stroller?) , I'd take the extra square footage and the queen beds in a heartbeat. But that's just me.

Not even in the same league, I would fork out the extra $160 and stay at PORS for sure, much better pool, food court about the same, but nod to PORS and the access to Disney Springs is pretty cool. Plus you have hot tubs at the end of the long day for the adults, a huge plus, Also PORS much more beautiful grounds, really makes you feel like you are on vacation and not staying at a themed Motel 6

Will the 2 year old fit in the crib Disney provides? It's probably the same Greco they provide in the DVC rooms.

Smallest of all rooms, full size beds, one vanity, and barely enough floor space for a crib. I realize the room is just for "sleeping and resting", but you'll also be showering, getting dressed, etc. All Star Music has 25 family suites, basically two rooms they've converted into a one bedroom with a living room, kitchenette and 2 bathrooms. The living room has a sleeper sofa and chair. Check the price and availability of those rooms - I think you'd be more comfortable.

I always laugh at all this talk about space. Growing up in the 80s my family of 5 would regularly stay in hotels the size of the All-Stars with my older brother always on the floor in a sleeping bag. Save the money on the room, have a better dinner and turn those kids into princesses. Honestly every hotel on property is nice so spend the money elsewhere.

Thanks everyone! We weighed the pros and cons and switched our reservation to Port Orleans!

@Minnie Mum I am more than ok with an extra $160(let's be honest, I wanted to stay there from the begining lol) and my sister really was fine with it. We are going in october so plenty of time to save. My mom had @Mickey5150 idea but she's pretty chill and go with the flow. I honestly can't see what I would have spent the money on otherwise in our situation besides multiple margs lol or the photo package.

@LAKid53 her fitting and sleeping well in the "crib" was a concern of my sisters. She anticipated being in a double bed with a sprawled out 6 and 2 year old haha. We have a few early mornings and need to maximize our odds of decent sleep!

@RustySpork yea i typed gardenview but obviously standard is fine. For some reason I thought only gardenviews had the pull down bed.

@RustySpork,

I thought only Alligator Bayou had the Murphy beds. Have they renovated the rooms at POR in the last couple of years? Our last stay at POR was in Alligator Bayou back in the fall of 2014.

We stayed at ASMovies a few years back with 3 adults and my 10 year old. We actually brought along a cheap air mattress (with electric air pump) and set it up on the floor at night using the extra blankets provided in the room. During the day we would flip it up on its side and slide it between the bed and the wall. It was nice to have the extra sleeping room and easy enough to move out of the way for extra floor space.

I'd keep the plans you have for the time being -- but keep your eyes peeled in case a special offer (seasonal room discount) comes out for the moderate resorts that makes it worth your while to switch. Even if you don't spend much time in the room, the extra square footage, larger beds (queen instead of full) the Murphy bed and a second sink (not to mention the in-room coffeemaker, if you have people who are like me and can't function until they've had some in the morning) can be a big help with a larger party. We stayed at CBR last time in a standard Murphy bed room with my family of four plus my MIL, and although everybody was tidy and we didn't spend lots of time in the room, we used and appreciated all of the little extras that distinguished it from a value.

I called this morning because I've read conflicting things on which rooms have the pull down bed. I booked a standard room in Alligator Bayou and when I asked about the pulldown she said we would automatically be put in a room with one because our party size is 5. I had read it was automatic if you had 5 people over 3 (niece will be 2). She offered to still put it in our requests so I did. Also, requested building 16 or 17.

Alligator Bayou is very nice. We've stayed in both Magnolia Bend and Alligator Bayou. Another tip I learned - ask for a corner room. You get two windows instead of one and the increase in light makes the room appear larger. Oh, in case no one told you, there are no elevators in the Alligator Bayou buildings as they are two story.

Hope you can snag a discounted room. That will make the larger room even better!
