"Worth it" Rides To See One Last Time

With all of the recent ride and entertainment closings, I read about a few people who flew down to Disney for the day to see Off Kilter's last performance, and was wondering if anyone would fly down to Disney World just to see their favorite ride or entertainment act one last time on its final night. Do you think that would be crazy or would you be willing to do it? If so what ride would you consider "worth it"?

I'd be willing to do it, I dont think it's crazy. It would be a definite if I lived within easy driving distance and not 1400 mi away. The problem would be having the freedom to dash off and leave work and responsibilities behind without being able to pre plan the trip. Sooo much to do just to manage getting away from life a year in advance. I'd probably go if it was announced for a Splash closing or a ToT closing.

There is honestly too much to choose from. Definitely any of the mountains, and the classics like POTC and HM I would come down just to experience it one last time. Fortunately, I think it's safe to say that Disney won't ever touch those attractions ;)

Hard to imagine because the attractions I would do it for have hardly a chance of closing anytime soon. I also live in central Florida so I wouldn't need to fly down per say. To play along though, it would definitely Tower of Terror, Carousel of Progress, the Peoplemover, Spaceship Earth, and Horizons...oh wait.

Now Disneyland might be a better scenario for me. There I would hate to lose Indiana Jones, Radiator Springs Racers, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Matterhorn.

Since 2010, I have lived close enough to WDW (only a 4 hour drive) that it's not any trouble to visit whenever I want if i've the whim to do so. Provided I have a pass it doesn't cost a ton to drive up there pretty often. I was already going to visit anyways this past month, Maelstrom's imminent closure simply provided yet another incentive to take an already quick and fairly inexpensive trip. I used to live in Tennessee though and wouldn't have visited just to get one more ride on something like Maelstrom. But it's convenient enough for me to be more spontaneous and frivolous with WDW trips than people who are farther away.

But i'm unsure what i'd do if I lived far away and they were closing much more amazing attractions like American Adventure, Spaceship Earth or Splash Mountain. I'd try to visit if I was already planning a trip anyways. I'd definitely do so now since I live close. During the early and mid 90's I was visiting WDW at a very frequent rate and always had an AP, so I had the opportunity to have some final rides on the old EPCOT classics from the 90's before they were ruined. Miss them dearly (Imagination 1.0, Horizons and World of Motion) and am glad I rode them a lot before they were gone.

But there's also the element of irritation involved. If I already have a ticket then i'd try to visit to get a final ride in. But if I lived far away and had to purchase a ticket, i'd be split between wanting to ride something I loved again but also not wanting to support their business. I have visited WDW less frequently (and taken precautions to spend infinitely less while there) lately than I did in the early to mid 90's partially because they have really done some asinine things which have royally p***ed me off. At the same time i'm worried that classics like SSE and American Adventure may end up going to way of Horizons/WoM/Imagination and feel drawn to ride them as much as possible while they're still there. It's kind of worrisome having people running this company who have so little regard for park integrity.

We live in Indiana, so a 1-night trip down could easily cost us $600-800 with round trip air for two, a hotel night, tickets, and food for 2 days. I've been going since 1986, so I've lived through many ride/show/attraction closures. If we know well enough in advance, we'll experience something on our next trip, if it's before the end. For example, we knew Maelstrom was closing, so we rode it on our August trip. And when we knew Snow White was going to go away, we rode it too.

The Backlot tour was one of my favorite attractions....in the 90s. Since then, I've only ridden it out of nostalgia, and we completely skipped it in August because of the horrendous heat. Even though the ride was awful, I feel like I didn't get closure with it. BUT, I would not have paid hundreds of dollars to experience it one last time.

The things I wish I could have experienced one last time before they closed include 20k, Skyway, Horizons and World of Motion. Again, I probably wouldn't spend that kind of money to fly down on their last day....but if I did, those would have been on my list.

Now, if they ever hint that something like Tower of Terror will be closing (I don't see that happening.....ever), my wife and I would be on the next flight to MCO.

Had I known that Spectromagic was never returning I would have definitely made a weekend trip before its "summer nightastic 3 month hiatus." But of course, I got set up by because they promoted Summer Nightastic as a limited return of MSEP and now spectroamgic is dead.
