I'm so worried that I won't be able to take my electric wheelchair on the rides...Over at the WDW website it says that on some rides that accomodate chairs you must transfer from an EVC or Electric wheelchair to a standard chair already provided or your own. I depend on my electric!!! Can some one tell me for sure if they allow electrics on rides. I'm sorry, I know I've asked this before but I'm just worried since I've never been to DW with an electric chair. Thank's for any info!!!

I will be in WDW in 65 days!!! WOO HOO!!! :sohappy:

Don´t worry! You can take your own and then at the very moment of the ride, you transfer to the wheelchair or to the car/boat of the ride. Cast members will be willing to help you with that. The mexican boatride has a special boat for wheelchairs or ECV´s, so you can just drive your own into the boat! Maelstrom in Norway is not the same, you will have to transfer, but you are not the first or the last one to do it! You´ll be fine! Don´t worry! :animwink:

So on some of the rides I can't take me electric on it? Could you give me an example of which rides that allow chairs you can't take electrics on? I will be bringing my own manual chair that is accustomed to me but I don't want to have to have my parents push me around the park...Do you think if I ask the CM's they will let me take my electric on all the rides that accomodate wheelchairs?

I don´t know about other parks, I only worked in Epcot and can only think of the Mexican Pavillion and the Norwegian pavillion right now.

If you don´t want your parents to push you around all parks, then use your ECV, but we aware, that you will have to leave it at the entrance of some rides in some cases. The manual wheelchairs are different cause they are smaller and it is expected that many people using them, can´t stand up from there, not like in an ECV. :animwink: I know... tough decision... maybe someone else can shed some light on this matter? :animwink:

One last question. My electric wheelchair is small and the size of a manual chair. Could I take it on a ride then? I know I'm getting annoying but please humor me...The closer the trip gets the more nervous I get! Thank's for all your help Maria!:)

The only attractions that I can think of that allow ECVs would have to be theater attractions. I believe all theater attractions are accessible via a ECV. There may be more but these are the ones that I cant think of off the top of my head the american adventure, Honey I shrunk the audience, the Tiki room, theater shows at the Studios...

You may have to transfer to a wheel chair on a couple of attractions because it's extremely difficult to manuver a EVC on a small raft or car. It may be for safety reasons too (electric devices + water don't go well together.) A list includes: universe of Energy, el rio del tiempo, the land, It's a small world, WDW Railroad, Journey into your imagination, the great movie ride.

as for some of the other rides...you'll most likely have to transfer no matter what. eg test track, ToT, RnRC, star tours, space mountain, splash mountain, all those shake you up attractions

Hope this helps :)
And if you're still totally freaked out you can give disney a call, I'm sure they can resolve the issue in 10 minutes or so :D

This site has some very good information about which rides allow mobility devices to directly board and which ones require a transfer to the ride seating. The ECV to Wheelchair transfer restrictions are based on the ride not being able to accomodate the larger devices. If your electric wheelchair is the same size as a regular wheelchair it will be considered as such.

Call the Disney Resort and Ask for the Guide books for Guest with disabilities. They have them for all of the parks plus general info. Disney is working very hard to accomidate everyone at the resort, however some attraction vehicles take time to be modified for chairs or due to the attraction safety proceedures can't be modified. If an attraction can't be made safe for a chair you have to transfer to be properly restained (example TEST TRACK). All of the cast members are trained to assist where necessary and gladly work with you. The guide books are a great place to start since you have some time to request them, but you can still get them when you arrive at any of the Guest Relations desks. If you need your electric chair, by all means bring it for you comfort and your parents, there is lots of walking. Transfering when necessary is only for a brief moment before and after riding so do not worry. Also I have heard many Disabled people say that Disney is the best place to go to and still be able to enjoy the parks like everybody else. Again, get the guide books, learn about Disney, come have fun, and tell us about what a great time you had when you get back home. Hope this helps

Bring your ECV and when you have to transfer, you will be given a normal one from Disney. I don´t think you have to bring both. :animwink:

Thats the problem, I can't just transfer to any manual chair. I have really bad scholiosis and to top that I have flexed hips which means I can't straighten out my legs and I tend to fall forward if I'm sitting in a regulare chair. Used to not be that way but now it is. Sadly I'll have to lug around the manual too. :)

That depends on the ride. The newer rides especially have wheelchairs using the regular (wide) line. Pooh, for example. However, most rides have separate wheelchair entrances or you enter through the exit.

There are VERY FEW rides that will allow you to stay in your ECV, sadly. For the few rides that actually are wheelchair-accessible, most of them require you to transfer to a manual wheelchair. Your own, or one at the ride.

My mum has multiple sclerosis and the last time we went, she relied on a wheelchair. So if you have any questions, I can probably give answers from our experiences.
