Well, I don't know about other but the NFL, FIFA and the Olympics all require these outrageous stadiums and demands. It seem governments caught on with the final bidding of the next Olympics going to 2 communist countries. But seriously, when you spend billions and only get millions or thousands in return if anything at all, you have a problem. They take your revenue that you made away from you and call themselves non=profit.

Well that all depends on the country, the London Olympics, was most probably a net profit for the country, and with the stadium finally having a future use decided, and many of the other facilities either being re purposed or sold on, but obvioulsy if you do it like Russia and add in £20 billion of corruption and backhand payments, then no oyu wont get value for money

The worst one i know of is FOM (formula one management) they make the race tracks pay anything from £30 million upwards for 1 race a year, they get all the money from the sponsors you see, and they demand constant investment in facilities it is impossible to run them at a profit you either need government support (middle east and Asia) or to use it as a loss leader, because F1 race there otehr race series will come (most european races)
