I'm heading to Disneyland in April. I'm looking for tips on seeing WoC. I'd prefer to not get a dining package, but if it's really necessary, I will definitely consider it. I will have an infant and a 6 yo with me so sitting and waiting for 2 hours sounds awful. Anyone have advice for me?

I think World of Color kind of requires that you get Fastpass to see it properly, which is another annoying thing about it. I've been in the vicinity of it when it's happening, and watching from behind the crowd is not recommended. Meaning, you can't exactly show up and find a decent spot to view it right before the show starts like Fantasmic. So I would recommend just getting Fastpass for it. I'm no fan of World of Color, but I'm fairly certain I'm right.

Just grab Fastpasses. The dining packages stil require waiting, but you're guaranteed central viewing area.

We went a few years ago and they offered a picnic meal package. Cheaper than the full meal package and you could do it anytime after 11 am IIRC.
