Wondersea Island

From what I have heard from people that work in management there, the current rumor is that the lease for wet 'n' wild is very expensive. The plan is once the current lease is up to move it to one of the plots of land south of Hollywood way. Disclaimer; this is just what my friends in management (not very high up mind you, but management nonetheless) are claiming that they are hearing.

I've been hearing the same thing for a long time. But this begs the question, how much of Wet n' Wild are they willing to move? It's an Orlando original, but it's rather outdated compared to its competition. It would obviously be in Universal's best interest to create a much more highly themed park if one were built on property from scratch. The trademark name hints at this fact. The original rumor was that Universal would simply relocate the park wholesale, but now it appears that much of an Orlando staple could be lost in a transition.

At least they may finally use all that empty land south of IOA. I have to imagine a 4th hotel is still being considered as well.

Intersting name...kinda fits with Universal and Islands...

I wouldn't be suprised to see the majority of old slides from Wet N Wild dumped...but I would expect to see ones like Brain Wash, Black Hole, and Disco H2O at the new park just because they are way newer and more expensive modern innovative rides. Universal likes being on the cutting edge, and something like Bubba Tub just doesn't scream innovative as much as the newly updated Black Hole.

Personally, I hope to find a very lush, mountainous park with awesome pathways and amazing interactive rides. I love how Disney does it without the big ugly staircase towers at their waterparks.

elsewhere a supposive insider is saying universal will be dumping marvel and it's the new name for superhero island. which made me wonder if they would move posideon over there when hp expands..

Cheers. Not sure this implies it's going to be a waterpark though. To me, "Wondersea Island" sounds like it would be more of a fit as a Sea-themed land within Islands of Adventure.

The other rumor I had heard was adding to IOA by using the plot of land just to the east of the JP River ride and using that as a gateway to cross over Hollywood way and having that plot of land being a new island.

This should explain my earlier post a bit better. The red line would be some sort of bridge over or tunnel under the road. The brown outline would be the new "island". The blue outline could be the water park or a new hotel. But if you look it up on a map there is possibly enough space to do all three with some sort of parking structure for the water park and hotel.

^thanks for the diagram. i was even thinking maybe of making the path right on the outside of the jp gate. maybe directly next to the service road. that way it's not a part of jp or toon

Or move the jp gate closer to the ride. i feel like whatever they are gonna do they will do it soon. Expanding potter obviously the first thing they want to do. If they can improve and expand the rest of the resort they might be able to convince people who went just to see potter to come back. There are many threads alluding to "Universal has made me a believer" etc. it wouldn't hurt if they could get people to come for reasons other then potter.

Ooo I never knew this land existed! Would they really want to re-use the slides from Wet N Wild? I was unimpressed when I went, possibly the only Uni related thing that i'll say is no where near Disney level.

They could even go for a Potter related theme park called Moaning Murtle's 'Wondersea Island' :drevil:

While Disney's waterparks as a whole are greatly themed, the rides themselves at the waterparks are basically standard run-of-the-mill. Some of Wet N Wild's on the other hand, are very well themed and translate into some great rides! The Black Hole:the Next Generation is probably my current favorite waterslide in Orlando. Brain Wash and Disco H2O are pretty high tech too! If we get a park chocked full of rides like these, or even better from Universal...I'm going to have a new favorite waterpark! (btw, Noah's Ark in Wisconsin is my current fave!)
