(Wishful thinking) Creative use for the imagination pavilion? Tron?

What about disney turning the imagination pavilion into a tron dark ride? That fits the look and feel of future world and the imagination/future concept. (And they are working on another tron sequel, I've heard... ) Who cares if the movies are unpopular? Create an ip starting with an awesome ride, to help build up interest in the brand, ala pirates of Carib.

Merchandise, mini light cycles etc would be easy to tie in, I'm sure.... Maybe make an end of line club with an outdoor elevator to access it, with alcohol and dance music atmosphere... As part of an immersive tron area, like they're doing with Star Wars land and the cantina.... Ahhhh I wish disney had more imagination.

And get apple computer to sponsor it (with some of their $80-100 billion surplus of cash, and apple's close relationship to disney thru Pixar), integrate the ride with iPhones and iPads thru wifi, and build an apple retail store onto the gift shop as incentive for apple. Tie tron into apple through computers and technology. Sounds like a lucrative use for an unused space, even to disney's "money matters" sensibility for new rides and spaces.

Just ride the new Test Track and chug a beer while dancing after you get off. Basically the same thing.

Not a fast moving ride.... A good old fashioned slow moving dark ride with animatronics and the great characters from tron. Bring in Jeff bridges. Tron. Explosions in the dark. Hey, if universal could do it with transformers, let disney do it with tron.

And...don't forget elecTRONica being brought over to to Epcot!

Alternatively, bring the tron concept from disney dubai and have it be a seated light cycle simulator... Which also don't currently exist in Epcot.

Tron deserves something bigger/better than what could be fit in that pavilion. :(

A lot of people feel that Disney should have just been more direct with Tron Track and call it what it is, instead of vaguely referencing aesthetics that are extremely reminiscent of the films. Others feel that Tron Track is extremely generic and includes a "look" that may be attributed to a design style that has nothing to do with Tron. I'll let each guest decide for themselves.

TRON is just kind of meh. I highly doubt you'll see Disney spending any attraction money on it given it's popularity relative to all the other IP they could base a ride on.

Personally, I know that the characterization of FW is frowned on, I think a WALL-E ride with a conservation/recycling theme would make way more sense and even fit into the original Epcot ideal.

IMHO, Where your TRON idea would really work is to re-theme Disney Quest. Flynn's Arcade, elecTRONica, etc.

honestly, just standing in an area mimicing "the grid" with all the led lined futuristic architecture would be enough to sell me on it. i was a huge fan of the original and appreciated the new one enough to really be on board for this idea. i think a light-cycle coaster practically writes itself.

Oh Boy, Tron again? Whats with everyone and this love of Tron. Tron in tommorowland, Tron in Epcot? I don't think Tron would be the best franchise, its really a niche market that doesn't gross too well in theatre's. I love great Mouse detective, but i wouldn't build a GMD ride. Its not a lasting property, niether is F&P, an orngial concept or somthing with Figment is what should go into Imagination.

I wouldn't mind ElecTRONica coming to WDW, but I'd rather see it in DHS.

im not disagreeing that its not the best franchise in the movie sense, but the visuals alone are why i would be on board. To really let disney imagination run wild i think tron is the best canvas. if disney is stuck on bringing franchises to life it needs to be one that can hold a footprint in a real life park. for instance, i think we all agree the narnia walk-thru was only good when you needed a room with AC, but that latest installment brought in nearly 300 million, so box office to park popularity is really apples to oranges.

To OP "NO" - and what is Imaginative about Tron ...
Excellent point! But that's also my point. I think imagination as a pavilion simply doesn't belong in future world. Imagination belongs in magic kingdom or Hollywood studios where the movies bring imagination to life. Imagination is in the here and now, the present, not specifically the future. Therefore my idea is to transform it into a pavilion dedicated to hi-tech, or technology, the future of technology. This would appeal to a younger crowd of today's iPhone and ipad age more than swirly fantastical imagination. And would appeal to the growing and influential group of proud nerds and geeks that are changing the face of entertainment (superhero movies, video games, gadgets, Internet's growing influence on everything). Tron as a theme is just a clever way to package futuristic tech as a possible vision of the future. I personally think blade runner (if disney could get the rights to it) would work also to present a vision of the future, though tron is more disney and more optimistic and cheerful than blade runner (the one thing that really sold me on blade runner is the existing pyramid shape of the imagination pavilion which perfectly matches the ones from the beginning if blade runner).

Disney could take the vehicles from dinosaur with the excellent movement and include a robot host to guide guests thru the future. Theme it to tron, get to drive through the sets of tron. The arena, with rinzler tossing discs right at guests, the gorgeous skyline and city, the grid, a chase scene away from opponent light cycles. Tron has a ton of great stuff to build off of. You could have Jeff bridges be the narrator or host, or, have a Jeff bridges animatronic wow the guests.

I think this idea would resonate much better with a new generation of park goers, and fit the Epcot theming (with mission space and test track, as well as inoventions) much better, and make for a more logical fit.

If all you want are rubes in the park, go ahead. Imagination pavilion is supposed to represent the ideal of "how ideas come about from maybe viewing/touching/tasting/smelling and combining that with different ideas to come out with something brand new". So the imagination that gave us brand new toys/new ways of thinking.

Not Tron which has flopped on 4 separate occasions, from 3 divisions of TWDC.

The point isn't to represent the tron flopped movies, rather to make an awesome dark ride that can live on its own merits as a fun experience park goers can enjoy. This in turn will increase interest in tron and make a reverse situation similar to PotC where the popularity of the ride created a massively successful movie franchise for disney.

I am quite certain that a new immersive ride of any stripe would soundly trounce a re"imagining" of a hallucination inducing, garishly colored, dream ride. Or any IP based on a disney channel cartoon.
