Do the Disney Resorts have wireless connections available for lap top computers? We will be staying at the Pop Century. Thanks.

I'm not sure Wireless service is available at Pop Century...here are the specifics we have here...

Wi-Fi: High Speed Wireless Internet Access

Wi-Fi is available to Guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort Hotels. Guests with Wi-Fi enabled laptop computers or PDA's will be able to access the Internet from the common areas of each resort.

Smart City is the vendor providing this service and 24-hour technical support for those Guests who need it.

Requirements: Requires a wireless interface card (WIC), available for purchase in the resort's business center.

Price: $4.99 for the first 60 minutes or $9.95 for 24 contiguous hours

Billing: Smart City will bill the Guests using a secure credit card transaction via the on-screen Internet connection.

Some locations include:

Disney's BoardWalk Resort: Convention Center Hallways/Common Areas, Resort Lobby, Main Swimming Pool Area, Concierge Lounges, Bellevue Lounge

Disney's Contemporary Resort: Front desk sitting area, 14th Floor Concierge - sitting area, Outer Rim Bar (near Concourse Steakhouse), 1st Floor Convention Center Lobby, 2nd Floor Convention Center Lobby, Feature Pool.

Disney's Coronado Springs Resort: Main Hotel Lobby, Convention Center Lobby area, Feature Pool, Francisco's Lounge.

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa: 1st Floor Lobby area including Tea Room, Convention Center Lobby area, 4th Floor Concierge area - sitting area.

Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts: Main Lobby area (both resorts), Concierge sitting area (both resorts), Convention Center Lobby area, Stormalong Bay Pool.

Technical Support: Is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling the Smart City help desk directly at 407-938-HELP.

Another alternative would be wired high speed internet service....

In-Room Internet Access: High Speed Internet Access (HSIA)

Requirements: Requires a Local Area Network (LAN) cable or in-room connection.

Price: $9.95 for 24-contiguous hours charged to the room account.

Resorts with HSIA:

All Star Movies Resort
Beach Club Villas
BoardWalk Resort (including DVC units)
Contemporary Resort
Coronado Springs Resort
Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Old Key West Resort
Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

The closest internet connection available to the public would be Boardwalk (I incurred a similar problem a couple weeks ago--I stayed at Pop too)

It's pretty close to the resort.

Boardwalk has a business center. It's really just a small office with 2 desktop computers and a dsl cable for your laptop.

I would suggest just connecting to the HSIA in the room....every laptop has an Ethernet connection port and to me it just seems silly to go to another resort just to use a wireless connection when you can get the same access by connecting with a CAT-5 cable.

The Front Desk has cables if you don't want to bring your own.

it should have something that looks like a large phone conection. all you need to do is plug in a cat 5e cable. if your computer dosen't have it you can buy a usb device that conects the cat 5e cable to your usb ports.

It's per half hour I believe. I don't recall the exact amount--somewhere around 5 or 6 dollars. If you're just looking to check email and a couple of things, it's not that bad.

Ya I was fairly certain there isn't a HSIA in PC yet. As said before, that's coming in April..

Or did I just not see it during my stay?

All of the deluxe and moderate resorts now have HSIA and the budget resorts are getting them over the course of the year. Even for in-room access, it is expensive, about 22 dollars a day. Still, some of us can't live without our internet fix every day. That is why I got a cingular 8125 phone/pocket pc...use that all over the country and don't need to lug the laptop...

So other than the limited "free" access to the Internet at Disney Quest, does anyone know of any free places to connect via wireless at the World?

No, there's no free internet access. You'll have to go off site for that.

For the insane prices that Disney charges for ordinary food, souveneirs, etc...there is no way they will have free internet :king:

We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn in August and the wireless worked well in the Lobby and pool area and its free. We also used the high speed in the room (we travel with our own e cord) and that also worked well and we didn't feel it was that expensive. Better than having to pay .75/call plus internet access that we used in past years at the WL.

In room High Speed Internet (wired) at a disney resort is $9.99 for a continuous 24 hour period. So if you log in at 9pm one night, you have access until 8:59pm the next evening for $9.99.

That's not quite correct. Unless things have changed in since fall of '04, you can get high speed wired internet at the Swan and Dolphin for "free"*.

The internet access is covered by the $10/day resort fee that also includes your coffee service and bottle of water and a few other things. You can't not pay the fee so it's not an extra fee to use the internet. Now they are not disney resorts, but at least you can stay on property and get your free access.

* Ok i just looked on their website and it says (charges apply) next to the high speed internet. Doesn't say what those are. But last time we stayed there, the room had a little card explaining what the "resort fee" covered and it did say high speed net access. *shrug*

Oh of course, if you stay at a resort it could be free. But you have to pay to stay at the resort just to use the Internet...See what I'm saying? So it's not really free.

Basically, there is nowhere that you can just walk in and use the Internet for free.
