Will WDW Be Next?

Beginning March 1st The Disneyland Hotel and Disney's Paradise Hotel will become non smoking hotels. Disney's Grand Californian hotel opened in 2001 as a non smoking hotel and now all three hotels at the resort will be smoke free.

Designated smoking areas will be established outside the hotels within walking distance from each hotel. The decision to make the hotels smoke free was essentially one of no demand.

On an average no more than two requests per day come in for smoking rooms. The hotels will gradually take the smoking rooms out of use and begin the task of replacing drapes, rugs and doing thorough cleaning of those former smoke areas.

Definately great news, I suspect WDW will phase it in slowly simply due to the amount of rooms.

I'd like to see everything there non smoking, but we are talking slightly different situations though - CA has all those anti-smoking in public laws that Florida does not have -- actually I wanted to chuckle thinking about how Disneyland Paris could never adopt this - you are even allowed to smoke while waiting in queue lines there for many of the rides, let alone in a hotel.

The sad thing is they're still going to have people smoking in their rooms. At least now you can request a non-smoking room.

As someone else said, CA is MUCH more stringent about smoking laws than FL. We JUST got no-smoking policies in restaurants in July 2003. CA has had them since 1998.

WDW gets more visitors from the south, Europe and Japan, all of whom have more smokers, per capita, than the people who visit DL. Will this affect how many "smoking" rooms they continue to have? We'll have to wait and see.

We in Florida *do* have some good anti-smoking laws. We're an Indoor Clean Air state and passed a new law last year banning smoking in all places that receive more than 10% of their revenue from food sales. Basically, the law outlaws smoking in all restaurants but still allows smoking in bars that serve very limited menus.

So, you don't have to ask for non-smoking any longer or be placed next to dirty smoker faces! :sohappy:

Fantastic! Similar laws are being introduced here in the UK! I hate eating in places its all smoky, though I do not think they have gone far enough until they introduce a total smoking ban here, its could to see the US is going along the same tracks :sohappy: :sohappy:

Great news! We have one pub here in Southport that has a no smoking policy. It is great to be able to visit there and not need to have your clothes dry cleaned when you leave! Can't wait for the US style smoking laws.
