Will they ever put up a new resort at DLR?

I have only been to DLR once, and plan to go again in a few years after the DCA overhaul is complete. In looking at the lodging options at DLR, I am really surprised that there are no plans for another big, themed resort over there. The Grand Californian is clearly a true Disney resort, but the other two just look like big, plain hotels...and not cheap to boot. Is Disney evey going to knock either one of these dinosaurs down to put up something more fitting? Maybe something like the new Tokyo Disneyland Hotel?

There are two Disney-run but not owned (maybe I have it backwards) hotels scheduled to be built at the Anaheim Gardenwalk. Apart from that, I think that Disney would wait until they get the Third Gate underway to even start thinking about a new resort.

Also, the Disneyland Hotel towers have to be rebuilt too, because they are not built to withstand earthquakes.

Well, I think the more accurate thing to say is that they are not built to withstand the current earthquake building codes. But then there are thousands and thousands of large buildings, some that are 50 story skyscrapers in downtown LA or San Diego, around Southern California that fit that description.

Earthquake building codes evolve and change over the years. The first Disneyland Hotel tower built in 1960 was built to a different code than the second tower built in 1970. And then the final tower built in '79 was built to different standards that came about after the big '71 Sylmar quake. The Paradise Pier Hotel that was built in the mid 80's was also built to different standards than say the Grand Californian built in '00.

And when they build the next big Disney hotel in Anaheim, it will be built to different standards than even the Grand Californian as the codes have changed and morphed yet again since 2000.
