Will the electrical parade be back?

I'm betting that this might actually be the last hurrah for the original MSEP in any form.

I've never been able to find a real account of what happened to the multiple versions of MSEP. I know there were at least two versions, maybe three. I know the WDW version went to Paris in 1992 when Spectromagic was introduced. I lost track of it after that, but I don't think that version ever returned to the US.

I think the Disneyland version is the version you see bouncing around parks the last decade.

There might have been a Tokyo version in the 70's and 80's too. I have no idea if it was used for the Tokyo update or if it was destroyed.

Does anyone know an accounting of all the different versions?

It was poorly stored. A schedule and budget had been approved for the parades rehabilitation then sadly it got eaten.

It came so close to coming back.
Blame the EPA for banning effective pesticides. If effective things like chloradane that could have been sprayed on the ground one and eliminated any termites for the next 15 to 20 years.

I remember the Tokyo version of MSEP gave different designs for the floats

That made me so sad (when it was realized). I went on a tour during it's "downtime" and while backstage near Splash Mountain, we saw some of the Spectromagic floats being worked on or at least appeared. It was exciting to see...only to never happen :(

I honestly can't imagine the magic kingdom without a light parade, this will be the first time for me. It was weird enough for me with Spectromagic missing.

Honestly, i do not think they care. They have increased the amount of castle projection shows significantly at night that keep people on main street especially before and after the fireworks. As long as people are spending money on main street it is a win for them

That is because they lied to us. The whole Nightastic crap at disneyworld was a farce, it was as bad (but albiet the latter worse) or Animal Kingdom comes alive at night last year. I
