Wilderness Lodge

Is there anyone out there who has stayed in the Wilderness Lodge in the past?? We are going to be there the last week of May '02 and the pictures really dont show much, the only thing we could get was a 'standard' view, what do is look like, or more like what will we be looking at?? Any suggestions

The wife and I had a standard view 11/26-12/02. We looked out on the woods and a little bit of the parking lot. Our biggest complaint was that we were right over the Whispering Canyon Cafe. If you get one of those rooms, don't expect to take a nap in the afternoon or sleep late. The WCC is anything but quiet. However, having said all of that we did enjoy our stay. The building was far nicer looking than most of the others and far more interesting too.

As far as ammenities, there is no difference between standard, forest, or courtyard view. If you plan on drinking a lot of coffee, tea, or soft drinks, buy the refillable mug from Roaring forks. It will save you money easily.

Let me know if you have other questions.

I would attach a picture of our view but I don't have a scanner.

Meega, nala kwishta!
We visited the WL last October for dinner at Artists Point as well. (We were staying at the AKL). Great food. And the romantic atmosphere of WL was a treet.

If I didn't love AKL so much, this would be my second choice for a resort to stay at.

We stay at Wilderness Lodge quite often -- it's our favorite resort. A standard view is usually the parking lot or woods.

There's lots to do there -- sitting by the fireplace, taking a dip in the hot tub or going down the slide (it's great at night -- with the warm water and cool air it gets foggy and you can't see where you're going!). Ask at guest services for the Hidden Mickey sheet and go on your own hunt for the hidden mickey's at the resort.

They used to have tours of the resort, with the afternoon tour taking you through the smokehouse (and you even get a treat) but I'm not sure if this has ended due to budget cuts.

Also, they have the refillable mugs there. Buy one your first day -- it's around $8-10 -- and you can fill it up for free whenever you want. I carry a backpack, so I just keep baggies in there -- fill it up on the way to the parks with coffee, rinse it out in a bathroom and stick it in a baggy in my backpack, then fill it up with soda on the way back to the room!

They also have a great new health club on the Villas side -- but honestly, the only exercise I do on vacation is hiking through the parks and swimming, so I couldn't tell you much about that.

Enjoy!

The Wilderness Lodge is quite possibly the best hotel I've ever stayed at. They have very nice rooms, a nice snack bar (The Roaring Fork), a cool gift shop with expensive wooden bears :D, a geyser, a pool, and a great area for kids. The only bad part about the WL is The Whispering Canyon Café, that place is loud, strange, and just plain scary :D
Hope you enjoy your stay at the coolest hotel in WDW!

Oh my gosh! I LOVE the Whispering Canyon Cafe. Great food and the wait staff are hysterical. It is, however, loud, though we stayed in one of the honeymoon suites on the top floor right above it and never heard anything from the restaurant -- we're late sleepers too! I strongly recommend the Canyon Style Oatmeal, oatmeal topped with caramelized brown sugar, vanilla ice cream, and a whiskey glaze! YUMMY! And you can order this from room service, too, even though it's not on the room service menu (yet!).

We stayed there this past November and loved it. If money were no object, you would never get me to stay anywhere else. Our room was a standard view which looked out over a parking lot and the smokehouse. However, I had requested that they put us on as high a floor as possible so we felt pretty removed from the noise. Also, we were on the side toward MK and were able to watch the fireworks from our balcony which was way cool.

Speaking of the Whispering Canyon Café, has anybody ever been waited on by a man by the false name of "Ken B. Crasey"?
That guy was the only kinda cool thing about the Whispering Canyon Café :D

Stayed there in Dec 00. It was wonderful. I've been to National Park Lodges out west. It is very authentic, even nicer than real park lodges. You will love it. We had a junior suite with a waterfall view though. It looked out into the "U". The middle area of the hotel where the waterfall, pool and geyser are located. I'm sure your standard view will be just fine. Just step out into the "U" section and you will see the waterfall and all the beautiful landscaping. WHen you drive up Timberline drive it feels like you actually are leaving florida and are out west. It is wonderful.

The boat ride from the magic kingdom may be a bit slower than the bus but is very relaxing before or after a long day at the park.

Have a wonderful time!!! :sohappy:
