Hi all! fiance and i are planning our honeymoon for august this year. we were going to stay at the contemp, but to save some $$ thought we could stay in a cheaper resort, then maybe upgrade the last 2 nights. I saw the wilderness lodge on allearsnet, and thought it would be a very nice, good choice. anybody have any experiences with WL they are willing to share?? thanx!

Definitely a great choice! It's one of those places that you walk in a get that "wow" feeling the first time. It is a beautiful resort and I don't think you could go wrong with it on your honeymoon.

...It's no Polynesian though! :animwink:

Wilderness Lodge is a beautiful resort. We are returning there this fall! :sohappy: :sohappy: Every detail is impeccable and you truly feel you've found a second home. Plus, you're only a short boat ride to the Contemporary/monorail. I think you would enjoy it.

very romantic with wonderful themeing. We stayed there last summer, club level. The service was fabulous, and we had an MK view. The bus service was quick and easy plus theres the boat to the MK. The Whispering Canyon was fun for a night. We really enjoyed our stay there.

The WL is a great resort. Really pretty location on the lake, boat ride away from the MK and other resorts and it has one of my favorite restaurants, Artist Point! Most everyone on here will give the WL good reviews. But, from what I've read, don't bother booking the honeymoon suite - it's more $ for a bad view.

Views of the MK fireworks from rooms with this view are excellent also!

Which view is bad? The view towards the MK or the view towards the villas? They both have their own pros and cons, IMHO.

WL for honeymoon

As you can probably tell from my avatar, I'm a big WL fan. I think that its a great choice for a resort, especially a honeymoon. If you ask for a quiet area, you can escape the hustle & bustle of the parks. If you want quiet, ask for a room facing the Villas.

Your jaw will drop when you walk into the lobby for the first time (heck, mine still drops every time I go in).

One of the things I love about WL is sitting on the balcony. "Wilderness" music is played around the resort, really helping to set the mood. There is a geyser in the pool area, and a nicely themed pool.

There are 2 sit-down restaurants and a food-court at WL. The food-court is too small for the size of the resort but offers a decent selection of items.

You can take a water launch (boat) from WL to MK, Contemporary or Ft. Wilderness Campground (FWC). Its a nice relaxing way to travel to the MK. There is a walking/jogging trail between WL and FWC which makes for a nice walk as well.

The WL offers water mice (small speedboat) rentals, bike rentals and many services. They have a spa facility, gym and arcade.

I think that the WL offers extremely comfortable and well-themed accommodations at the lowest available deluxe resort prices.

I don't think you can go wrong with this choice, but cannot compare to Contemporary since I've only visited it but never stayed there.

Another cheaper deluxe resort is AKL. It usually runs neck-n-neck with WL as the best-themed resort on property. Its a bit isolated from most parks and other attractions but I hear the bus service is pretty good. Even if you don't stay here, make sure to go to Boma to eat. Everyone I've ever recommended it to loved it!

Another wonderful resort is POR. This one would save you even more money and is very well themed as well. It offers boat rides to Downtown Disney as well as water sprite and bike rentals. It has 1 restaurant and a great food court (much bigger and better than WL). The one downside I've experienced at this resort is bus service - it gets crowded really quick.

Hope this helps. Happy Honeymoon!

If you want a good MK view ask for a room that ends in 022-032. 0630 is our favorite. :D

I work there..and it is one of my favorite hotels we have...

Yes I am partial because I work there. I work at Artist Point. And i agree with what all have said. It is another one of our hotels that you get that WOW factor in. The lobby still blows me away and the beauty of the back, the geyser, the lighting at night, th esoothing music, waterfall. And really consider taking the free hotel tour or hidden mickey hunt, they are both very informative. And also be sure to check out one of the train cars from Walt's train he used to ride around his backyard in the Villas lobby. It is in my opinion one of the resorts in terms of seclusion and making you really feel you are in the setting of what is boasts.

I too am a big fan of the WL. One of the only resorts (AKL being the other) where the rooms have bunk beds...but since you are going on your honeymoon you may not care, but in another few years when you have little Disney fans, it makes a differnce for them to have a restful night sleep.

Love the pool area. The boat ride to MK can be a little bothersome if there are too many people leaving at night you might have to wait for a boat or two, (but then again we've had to wait for a second bus from other resorts).

Our kids love whispering canyon. I've been told that Artisan point is really good, but haven't tried it yet. It's nice staying close to MK but not having to pay for Monorail resort prices.

You won't be sorry for staying at the Wilderness Lodge.

We stayed at WL for our honeymoon and loved every second we were there. They do have honeymoon rooms there (we had one) the views are not great, but the rooms are. You won't regret changing except for the monorail aspect.
