Wilderness Lodge Rooms (again....)

Yet another Wilderness Lodge thread, sorry guys.
I've done a number of searchs but can't seem to come up with the information I'm looking for.

My family (wife and 20 month old daughter) will be visiting WDW in early Dec and staying at the Wilderness Lodge. We've heard wonderful things about it and we can't wait to see it for ourselves (and we got a great price:D )
We have a standard room and are wondering what we should ask for when we check in. I've read that the usual view for this type of room is woods, parking lot, or both. But does anyone have room or floor number suggestions that would give us the best view.
Also I've heard that some of the rooms could get noisy if they're near the restaurant(s). Can I avoid these and still get a decent view?

Thanks in advance!!!

I don't know about the view, but any room directly above the lobby can get noisy. Especially if the WCC gets rocking.

We stayed one year in a room that was on the 6th floor right off the lobby (the lobby is an open atrium all the way up) and I was woken up a couple mornings by one particular server in the WCC that was pretty good at a whoopin' and a hollerin' and putting on a good show.

The next year, we stayed in one of the wings, and it was much quiter.

Don't get me wrong, the lobby rooms are nice, but if you are a light sleeper like I am, the noise in the lobby can wake you up.

We stayed at WL New Year 2000/2001 and had a great time.

Not sure how to describe it but as you've got your back to the main building and your facing the lake we stayed in the left wing. Ground floor. I can't remember the room number but I'll ask the wife next time I speak to her... I work away from home, we've not had an argument or anything!!

We are a young (ish) couple with no kids but we really liked the room. With it being a ground floor room you don't get a balcony (obviously! :hammer: ) but you get a patio, with table and chairs which goes on to a grass area that the kids could play on. You would need to keep an eye on them because their is a pond! but the kids will like feeding the ducks! Must be some of Donald's relatives.

At the far side of the pond were trees then a view of the Contemporary. On an evening, when we were all parked out and wanted to rest you could sit on the patio with a drink (or two!)and watch the MK fireworks behind the Contemporary. Beautiful! It's was near, but not too near the food court.. not the posh restaurants the one that sells burgers, Pizzas etc. Great just to dive out and get breakfast with out a mile hike. We got no additional noise from passing people or the food court!

It's great, you'll all love it. I hope they have the X-Mas decoration up they are Fab too!

Not for those who are scared of heights! It's scared the hell out of my wife and we just went up for a better view of the X-Mas decoration and to take a photo.

We stayed there in Jan. 2001 and my wife ask if there was a room that we could see the MK from. They gave us a room in the north wing,on the 5th floor. .We did have a few trees in the way,but we could see the fireworks on the nights we were not at the park. They also have JENNY'S in room dining that has a 12 pc. fried or rotissorie chicken and fries meal for about 15 or 16 dollars(including tip)that worked out great for the three of us on those nights when you've seen enough people for one day.One last thing. It was very quiet there.

Probably the loudest rooms are the ones directly over the WCC on the fourth floor. Our room was directly over the dining area and we could hear a lot of what was going on. The dinnerbell was especially annoying, but thankfully they only rank it once an hour or so. Another disturbing piece was the "galloping" tray holder. They would bang the tray holder against the wood floor and it just carried. If you are on the fourth floor, I would recommend the side opposite the WCC. However if you are on five or six (seven being the concierge floor or is it only six stories in which case six is the conceirge), I would recommend the side of the WCC. You'll have some insulation from the direct sounds and won't be as vulnerable to the atrium effect.

This is great info, thanks everyone

so let me make sure I"ve got it.

Lobby rooms are nice, but they could get a bit noisy

The WCC is on the 4th floor (?) of the left (looking at the lake) wing. So avoid that.

if we like heights, go for the higher floors and we might get a view of MK and/or the fireworks.

There are ducks (this is cool, my daugher will love them!)

Is is possible to get a room too close to the food court and get noise from that?

I'm sure any room we get will be wonderful, this is just my pre-trip over-analysis. Its half the fun:)

We were in room 4091 (or 4090) overlooking the lobby and above the check-in desk. When we walked out of our front door we could see into Whispering Canyon.

BTW--this is an awesome view of the lobby and the Christmas decorations. It is considered a standard view, because the balcony view is of the bus stop.

Our room had bunk beds, which I might recommend for your family. There are bed rails available for your 1 year old, and that upper bunk is a good storage place for suitcases, clothes, etc.

I did not notice excessive noise from the lobby. Some people have complained about the dinner bell at WCC, but I never heard it.

The deluxe resorts are designed with the bathroom right inside the door, which acts as a noise buffer. This means that the bed is as far as possible from the door and any noise from the hallways.

I realize I have contradicted every other post, but we really could not say that our room was noisy.

The only time we stayed in WL we had a standard room ...I have no idea what rm #. The view was parking lot/smokehouses. I can say that it did smell pretty tasty from our balcony! :slurp:

The ducks even swim in the pool which is really funny to see!

I was as close to the food court as you could possibly get and it did not disturb us. It's down the corridor that you come down from the main building to get to the left wing. My wife is going to call me back in about half an hour with the room number as we've still got the map they gave us.

She forgot to give me the number before she set off to work, I'll have to get a new wife! But if you go to the URL below and find number 10... that's pritty close. 9 is the food court... "Roaring Forks Snacks"

WL MAP

If I get time before I fly I'll send you the room number when I get home this afternoon.

The DVC Villas side of the WL is awesome. The rooms are just like the DVC rooms at Boardwalk and Beach Club in layout, but the decor is very nice. Also, many rooms open to the woods, so you can see many small animals.

OK I've just got in after a 3 hour drive! Just got time to do this before I start to pack to head out to Florida! :sohappy:

Ok the room number we stayed in was 1032, but any rooms on the ground floor would give you the same access the pond, ducks, etc.

See you all in two weeks when I get back! Bye :sohappy:

When we stayed it was in a junior suite with a "waterfall". This was a view of the courtyard, with the pool, waterfall and geyser. It was very beautiful, especially in the morning when the sun came up and gleamed upon the windows. If possible i would request this view. We never had a problem with noise???

13 more days!!! :sohappy:

Great info, keep it coming:)

Yellow shoes:
we were going to avoid the bunk beds, but using the top bunk for storage is a good idea. seems like we never have enough room, especially w/ a little one around.
Beyond the parking lot, could you see the fireworks at MK at all?
Good point about the bathroom being a buffer.
