Wilderness Lodge and Villas

I'm probably going to stay at the Wildernes Lodge Villas this January. Is there anything special that I should know? Where to request a room, etc. Anyone stayed there? Did you like it?

Also, I heard there would be a Travel Channel Special on this resort on 10/7 at 12pm; 10/8 at 4:30pm; 10/13 at 10:30pm.
Can anyone confirm this?

Saw this yesterday on the Travel Channel. Great little expo on the Wilderness Lodge. Shows the property in detail. Shows a sample room in the lodge. Shows parts of a sample Villa. Shows all the stuff outside like the pool and geyser. Even shows something about the camp ground.

If you've got any doubts about wanting to stay there, set your VCR and tape this.

I watched it and kinda wished I'd booked there instead of Boardwalk for my trip in two weeks! :brick:

Well not really! :D

If you haven't been to WL or WLV, you might want to give it a go.

It is a completely different atmosphere than BCV (or OKW)

Lots of hunter green, cranberry and brown as opposed to the pastels and white of the more "tropical" resorts.

On the other hand, you have 40 years to check them all out......

WLV for sure!!! i've stayed at both (as well as BWV and i'll be staying at BCV next month) and out of the 3 DVC resorts i've stayed at thus far, OKW is my least fave. course, that's just MY opinion. WL and BW are so far tied for fave DVC. if i were you, i'd definately go for WL! to me, there's just something that OKW lacks.

you won't have ANY regrets, trust me! it's not my tip top fave WDW resort...but that's merely because of sentimental reasons (toward Dixie Landings/Port Orleans Riverside) anyway, i've always loved this resort since the first time i visited it! it's marinated in the Disney spirit! and it's SOOOO cozy! the place is just amazing in size and themeing! and believe it or not, it's very inspiring! the music they play there is very appropriate (and sometimes very familiar...they play the theme from Magnificant 7, Last of the Mohicans *sp?*, How the West Was Won, etc)
and the nature trail is just wonderful (saw my first Floridian deer while on the trail last year!)
as for where to request a room, there's really no where in particular...they all have nice views! but, personally, i prefer balconies as opposed to patios, so that's the only thing that me, personally, would request...but that's just up to you. if you don't mind heights, go with a balcony.
but if for some reason you don't get to stay there, do yourself a favor and at least visit there!

**BTW, Moustronaut, is it your first time staying at BW? if so, don't worry! BW is a GREAT place to stay, and is one of my absolute fave DVC resorts! you have great benefits on either side of the resort...sunrises on the lake on the boardwalk side, and beautiful sunsets on the pool side! plus, you can always stay at WL next time :)

We are new DVC members and VWL is our home. Our next trip (March 2003) we changed our resevations to BCV becuase that is my fav theme for a resort and I love SAB (especially with a todler.)

We have not stayed or even visted WLV yet (how strange is that?), but I am somewhat concerned about the theme. People say "it is so great, you don't even feel like you are in FLA." I don't know about you, but when I go to FLA I want to feel like I am at least some place warm and sunny. I live in Michigan, I can get woodsy all the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But then again that is just your resort, you have the rest of WDW to get the feel of FLA. It should be fun for Dec trips.

I think I will like our new home, but something tells me we will be booking at other places often and not just sticking to our home resort.

believe it or not, my mom is the other way around. she adores WL, but doesn't like BW at all because it doesn't 'feel like FL'. personally, i like BW a little more than WL...i don't know why really. i guess i find BW a great place to people watch! but don't get me wrong, i like WL too....and sure, it doesn't have the palm trees or tropical theme...but honestly, how much other stuff in WDW does? i guess you could kind of think about it as a more complex tom saywer's island in a way....only with a more western theme, of course. it may not have the feel of Florida, but it does give you the feeling of being in a hot place (or at least it does me)
but i agree...i live in KY...i get bored with the extreme climates (really cold in winter, really humid in summer), and all the scenery and such....when i go to FL, i want to feel like i'm there! and true, WL may not have that FL feel (even though they do have a beach), and that may be why i don't consider it my #1 fave. but it's still a great resort and it definately has that Disney feel to it! at the very least, take a little time out of one of your days (maybe the day you arrive, or maybe one of your magic kingdom days) and go and visit it! that's the only way you'll be able to see for yourself what the feel of the place is. or even if you don't mind switching hotels (which personally, i kinda do, but if you don't...) get your reservation changed and just stay one night there. just somehow try it out, and as i told Jedi Osborn once, it's not perminent...if you don't like it, go back to what you're comfortable with. just have fun with it and don't worry about it too much...:) it's Disney World...you can't go wrong either way you go!

Thanks for the information everyone. I especially liked the "marinated in Disney spirit" which is exactly what I want. I watched the Travel Channel special and it looks like a lot of fun. Having just visitied the Yellowstone National Park this summer, it definately recalls some memories. On the special they said views from the villas overlook the woods. Which is alright with me- I just don't want to overlook the parking lot! Sounds like a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to it! Thanks!

If you want to be near the action, don't go to OKW. I like OKW because it is so relaxing and it's a great place to get away from the incredible hustle and bustle of DW. I don't like to go full speed ahead the whole time I'm on vacation and at OKW I find some like-minded people. It has by far the biggest condos of the DVC resorts, which is helpful with my family of 7. It's also less points than the other DVC resorts.

I'm in the process of trying out all the DVC resorts. BCV is great. We spent two days relaxing at the pool the week we were there -- Stormalong Bay is the best resort pool at DW. It's also a very short walk to Epcot and the Boardwalk, which has lots of restaurants and some entertainment. The 2BR condo is disappointingly smaller than OKW.

I have yet to try Boardwalk Villas, although I've seen the grounds and units. I'm reluctant to go to WLV because I like to travel out west. I plan on going back to the Tetons soon and I ski a lot. So why go to see a western style lodge themed resort at DW? Although I'm sure we'll try it at least once.

Saty on the 4th flore of W Villas because you get the best view. Try to get a studio that overlooks the woods. This is probably one of the moset sereen place.

Have fun - the Wilderness Villas

This is my favorite resort.

The main building, eh?
I had started a different thread trying to figure out the best spot to get w/ a standard room. I'd like to avoid the noise of the WCC and hopefully get a good view.
Of course this is all pre-trip nit-picking. Any room will be great because its in Disney!!!

It the COP in concept art for thhe 1964 worlds fair.

Ask to stay in the main building,or you could have a long walk every day,the pool slide needs to be bigger otherwise its great

If you like new room where a million people did not sleep than go to the Wilderness Villas. Another cool thing is the Studios look larger than the Wilderness Lodge rooms.

Please don't think i'm nuts about promoting this Villas but is my favorite resort
