We are considering this for our next trip in sept 2014. Any one ever participated? How long is it? Any insight, tips etc? When can we book this? Is it better I do it first thing in the morning? I look forward to hearing from this who have done this!

I did this a little over a year ago and I can not recommend it enough.

Morning is almost always better when you are dealing with animals. They tend to seek shade when it heats up.

You will want to wear shoes and attire that are suitable for hiking. You will be on trails, but the ground is uneven, there are roots to contend with, etc. Doing it in a pair of heels, Crocs, or flip flops is a big no-no.

You quite literally can not bring anything with you that is not on some kind of strap. This includes wallet, keys, cell phones. You can bring a camera but it must be on a strap, everything else will go into a locker they provide for you.

Bring a real camera with a strap. You will never have a better opportunity for pictures on the KS than this tour.

There are 2 rope bridges that you must cross. If you or any member of your party can't either physically do this or are afraid of heights you will not be able to do the tour as there is no bypass for these bridges. They have a little test bridge built at the base you start from so you can get a feel for them before you have to cross the real thing.

The menu they have for lunch can be a little weird for some. There is nothing crazy like monkey brains or duck toes, but if you are one of those types that will not eat anything out of the mac n cheese and chicken nugget food groups, you might want to ask about option. I believe they have a kids meal available that is a bit more normal.

You will now find hand sanitizer in multiple locations along the trek. Use it every time you see one and make sure to wash your hands before lunch. Everyones hands are in constant contact with safety cables, rails, etc and spreading little nasties is a high possibility.

I can't recommend it enough! My son and I had a fantastic time doing it.

The trek takes about three hours. There is a LOT of walking involved, so you want to be in relatively good shape [not Olympic-athlete, but able to walk several milescover rough terrain]. We did the first tour of the morning and found it excellent! We were lucky enpough to actually catch the lion prowling and roaring [apparently an extremely rare treat]. The food was amazing and I could drink Jungle Juice all day!

When we did it you were sent a CD with your trek photos and a bunch of "stock" photos after your vacation. Now they give you a website and code to download the photos from the internet. You get a keepsake metal water bottle with the trek logo on it and apparently now you get a commemorative pin after you finish.

In September, expect it to be quite hot, even in the mornings. In February, I would prepare to bundle up, depending on the year it can get quite cold [I'm a Canadian and have been known to wear a parka in February... Other times I've been in shorts and a golf shirt].

I'm not sure how far in advance you can book. More info:

My wife did it last year and loved it, she did the first tour of the day as that was the recommended one. I will say, if you do, be prepared for a $20 cab ride to get there from your resort, as well as eat a good breakfast before you go, as she said the food was awful. Also, there is a weight limit for the zip line, that is why I did not go, so make sure you can participate before signing up.

I just booked it for my daughter and I in May and found out they were offering the $50 discount. They have advertised this in the past, but I had seen nothing about the special advertised for our dates. But when I called on the phone to book, he told me about this deal so got it for $139 each (instead of $189). The special does not cover first sessions of the morning though so we are taking the 11:45 session. The booking agent also mentioned there is now a Disney VISA discount for this tour too. Never heard of that before, only other tours were discounted. The $50 discount was more so he applied that discount instead.

Just to clarify...Unless something has been added in the last year, there are no zip lines. There are rope bridges that have a weight limit, but no zip lines.

There's no "zip line" that I saw. I assume you mean the rope bridges? There is a weight limit, they won't take anyone over 300 Lbs [they discretely weight you before you start]. The rope bridges are actually steel cable bridges that are quite sturdy, if it weren't for the rule, I suspect they would safely support a lot more.

The food is different and as Richard @Master Yoda said, not for everybody, but I loved every bite. Some have said there wasn't much of it, but I'm a 270 Lb man and was satisfied with the quantities as well.

Just one more quick question. After doing this tour would I be too "gross" to finish up the park for the day or would you suggest leaving after? Trying to figure out a game plan for the day. Thanks so much.

No more than you would be from just touring the parks. Why it helps to be in decent shape, you are not exerting yourself all that much. It is mainly jut going over uneven terrain, navigating rope bridges, etc.

Thanks so much. I'll rearrange some FP+ and make this a morning adventure.

Booked this morning for the 8 am tour on 2/26. Early EMH that day so no problem with transportation. It's a surprise for my husband so now I just have to wait. Thanks to everyone for the comments/suggestions.

I've been looking into doing this tour as well, but I think I would end up having to do it alone (no one else in my travel party is game for it). Would it be awkward to go on this alone? I realize you're with a group, but is it more of a family experience than solo?

I see no reason for not doing it solo. The experience is excellent.

My husband and I LOVED this trek, ask the trek photographer to take pictures of you during the trek. I have some great pictures of us with the animals in the background. When I got back I made a 20 X 16 collage of the trek that hangs in our living room, we always get compliments on it and get to relive the trek each time someone asks.

We did this in October and had a great time! Our kids were 10 and 8 at the time and loved it as much as we did. If you would like to see pictures I can post them for you, unless you would rather wait. We enjoyed the short break for a light snack. The animals got very close to the area where we were eating. You could hear them eating the grass! Just an amazing experience. If you are an AP holder, look for special discounts. We were planning on doing it last summer, but we saved a few hundred dollars with the discount in October (I think it was a 40% discount). Remember a camera, plus the CMs will be taking pictures along the way as well. They took over 300 pictures on out tour and they are included with the tour. Have fun!!!
