Why you LOVE WDW

My GF asked me what are the underlying reasons for my love of all things Disney. In particular, why I enjoyed going to WDW so frequently. (As if 5 times in the past 9 years is frequent!)
I tried to explain about growing up watching the Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday, my fascination with the art of animation and the ever-present belief in fairy-tales. I also mentioned the great dining, the color and atmosphere, the thrills and the sense of awe that one person's imagination inspired it all. She still doesn't get it.
I thought that if I could find some other Disney fans/fanatics to tell me what they love most then I could share it with her. Maybe then, she'll understand better.
I know I'm not alone here . . .

Thanks!!
;)

I agree with you about being raised on Disney on Sunday nights, it's that warm family feeling. For my Sister and I, it is the fact that we can be at WDW for 10 days and become kids again. We can ride rides, get soaking wet and not care, scream and laugh, my sister who never swims or goes near water at home (and spends two weeks in the summer camping on a lake) puts on a swim suit and we have a ball tubing around the lazy rivers at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. We have our pictures taken with and without Characters and present them to our Mom which makes her cry everytime. We buy stuff we will never use again which brings back kid memories when our parents took us to the summer fairs every year and we were able to buy one thing that they knew we would never use again. I guess it all boils down to that kid feeling in the 7 to 10 year old range when everything was fun and adventuresome, and leaving the adult responsibilities and pressures at home for a short time with the great part being having the adult money and not having to ask the parents if you can buy or eat what you want. This is why my Sister and I love WDW. Keep in mind we are older and have no children or grandchildren of our own, so we may have a different prespective, just two great big kids having a blast.

Exactly!! You are not alone. Although my story is a little diferent.

My love for Disney is primarily WDW. I do love all things Disney, like yourself, but WDW is something magical! I first went to WDW in 1974...I was 6 years old. Of course, being that young, you don't tend to remember much about the visit. I did not return to WDW until 1999...I was now 30!!!! Since it had been so long between that first visit to the next, I really had no concept of what I was in for. I WAS OVERWHELMED!!! Immediately, I was transported back to that child-like, 6 year-old feeling of "Wow!!". And then it hit me...."My God..I have missed SO much!" 24 years between visits would do that, I suppose. Between 1999 and 2002, I have been 8 times!!! Guess I'm a late bloomer!

In any case, I would explain it to your GF like this, " You either get Disney, or you don't. And if you don't...then you've grown up!!". Disney and WDW are for the young, the young at heart or anyone wishing to escape to confines of reality. I'm a big kid at heart, and will remain so for the rest of my days. I realize that in the "real world", you have to paint on a face that everyone will except. But, in a place like WDW, you can leave all of that superficial garbage at the gates when you arrive and give yourself a chance to experience fun, laughter and surprise as that child in your heart should. I will be 34 this December, and just as one of my favorite WDW t-shirts states, "I will NEVER grow up!".

That's just me...your opinions are welcome.

It's the only place I know where I can get INSIDE cartoons and movies and all that, completely entering a different and happy world, being transported from the Old West to the future...

Themes, attractions, characters, cordiality, CMs, cleanliness...

Not to mention that my love for WDW and Disney as a whole greatly increased after my time as a CM and then after I watched Walt: Man Behind the Myth.

And I have to agree with everybody who said: it's exactly like coming home after a long period away. Even when I actually get home after a trip, it doesn't really feel as much "home" as that... Werid, huh? :D

I love Disney because it's pure magic and wonder for me. The quality of the movies and programs are great, the resorts and parks can't be compared, it just allows me to get away from everything bad, get back to that childhood comfort of believing that everything is perfect and wonderful, that we live in a happy and peaceful world.. Granted, it may not be all true, but Disney brings me back to that feeling of security and happiness that I had as a little girl.. Kind of like the magic of Santa on Christmas...

It's the only place you can act like a kid regardless of your age and get away with it!!! :sohappy:

For me, I wanted to go to Disney soooo bad when I was in Middle School that I read every and all guide/trivia/history books on Disney and my obsession grew from there.

I have to agree with lildivaaa: " You either get Disney, or you don't. And if you don't...then you've grown up!!".
Well Put:wave:

Disney is................
The films that everyone grew up with coming to life,
The Bank Holiday Weekends watching "The Wonderful World Of Disney",
The Magic of WDW in Florida,
Disney is the escape from everyday life, with friends, family and loved ones and the meeting of thousands of new friends all fighting to be first in the queue when the ropes drop :sohappy:

1. When I'm there I don't walk around thinking they could do this better or that better. Instead I think, Whoa it's cool they thought of doing that!

2. There's something for everyone in my family to enjoy (ages 3,5,7,11,13,37,42)

3. Landscaping.

4. Landscaping.

5. Cast members.

6. CM's help deal with rude "guests" so other guests don't have to deal with the problem. And people are usually more considerate at DW than other places.

7. Memories...Lots and lots of them when I was a kid. This is bittersweet.

8. Making new memories with my kids.

Thank you very much. I humbly bow. :)

As for my experiences with people "not getting" Disney, it mainly comes from my co-workers. I end up talking about Disney at some point, at least once or twice a day. My co-workers rag on me SO much!!

I don't let it get to me....I simply step back...smile...turn and walk away...and in the back of my mind, I think "Gee, at least I know where MY laughin' place is!!"

Thanks to everyone for your responses.

I'm not sure if she'll "get it". Definately not in touch with her inner child. But, the important thing is that I am! :)

And I'm in good company.

It's magic. A step inside and it's a completely different place than the real world. For me it's like a fantasy that comes true everytime I visit Disney World.
Also i'm a kid at heart and this is a place that let's the child in me fully come out. Also I love rides! :D

I;)

Well, first tell your GF you do not go often at all. I have been there 6 times in the last 2 months (of course I only live 45 minutes away and have a Premium Annual Pass). Why do I love Disney - It is a magical place, free from the troubles of today's society. It is generally clean (content wise) and always makes me happy. Also, the theming makes it an adventure, not just a visit. Disney does theming like nobody else!
