Why the late MK hours week of March 10?

Checking your calendar and the week of 03/10 at MK looks like it will be slammed...open till 1 a.m. regular hours and for EMH morning, open at 7 a.m. The confusing part is that the followoing week, the hours go down till closing time of 11 p.m. until it gets slammed for pre-Easter. Trying to figure out if we want to arrive on 3/10, which we thought would be safer since it is not as close to Easter, but now considering 03/17 instead. Can't find any special events listed anywhere that week.

I know that Spring Break starts 03/09 on Touring Plan. Just cannot figured out why it is a busy week with closing time at 1 a.m., then the following week the closing time is a full 2 hours earlier, at 11 p.m. and that one EMH starts at 7 a.m. I would expect it to be busy 03/09 and STAY busy, but looking at the hours, one could infer that Disney expects lesser crowds the week of 03/16...Is this a fluke? Maybe calendar is not updated? Thoughts? o_O

I think they gear the hours to number of reservations for that time period. Same thing is happening to us. The week before and after Easter have these same long hours. They don't go down until the Sunday we leave.

Don't forget the gobs of cheer families that will be there following the 3/9 and 3/10 competition at WWoS and DHS. Most families get there on the Thursday before that weekend and stay for the following week.

The number of schools out for Spring Break is not evenly distributed over the month. As it stands right now:

70 colleges out the week of 3/2
142 colleges out the week of 3/10
86 colleges out the week of 3/17

Unfortunately there isn't a centralized list of all school Spring Break schedules. For the most part most schools follow the local college schedules. With that in mind, 3/10-3/16 is set to be the peak with things tapering off quickly afterwards.

Aha!! Thanks, Draybook...THAT's what I was looking for, some reason there is a spike that week, and that cheer competition could just be it! Gonna look toward the week of 03/16 then, and even though it will be crowded, seems like Disney expects just a little less chaos. Thanks for everyone's thoughts. That's what you gotta love about WDWMagic!

Fun fact: it's never slow anymore.
Mid to late January is usually less crowded. More kids there=Space Mountain for those of us who meet the height requirement. I'm serious: middle of the week, 10 minute Space Mountain wait at around 1 pm. It was great.
