Why not?

So I've been thinking about this a lot lately with people clamoring for Disney to start bringing more original things back to the parks (like Mystic Manor) instead of multi billion dollar IP's....

Why couldn't someone build a totally immersive theme park, without the franchises that Disney uses? Do you guys think it could be successful? The big thing (besides investors/financing) would be, what to do for a "Fantasyland" like area...I'm not sure how that could be done without the princesses, etc...

I got to thinking...if you hired some of the more creative people you could find...there is no reason you couldn't come up with immersive experiences to rival anything Disney/Universal has ever contemplated. Another question would be how much you can get away with "cloning" Disney's parks...I really like the main street entrance idea...with the hub...but wouldn't want the "weenie" to be a castle. And while I like the steam train...not sure it could be copied without feeling like a Disney knockoff...

Any thoughts?? I started to really think about this lately...I was thinking the ideal location would probably be Texas, southern Missouri, or somewhere around there.

It's a great idea and would have to be pulled off extremely well, placed in a market area that is not over saturated, and serve multiple functions. The problem is many people assume to make it out West or northward.
It must be placed at an ideal place, my solution? LOUISIANA! Lot's of available land, the market is not over sturated with other big tourist attractions, it is quickly becoming a state more traveled in (and the first to have a MAG LEV Train.

Now while these things do not necessarily determine where a park should be placed they do help. Texas is the worst state though (besides the west up to California) it has a mass a lack of water supply etc.

That's what I was thinking too...a lot of cheap land in Texas...problem is...no water for said land ha.

Louisiana would be interesting...I am thinking about starting a competition/thing on WDWMagic for ideas...and then maybe we could go to Kickstarter to get it off the ground...lol.

This is what happens as a college student...when I get discouraged by job searching in financial, or health care industries...I think...why not do something big?

lol...as if I could get the money to start it.

Edit:
Here is the location...lol 1,000 acres at a fairly reasonable price haha

Wouldn't work (I'm from Louisiana), it's too far from any major cities, transportation, or airports. Maybe in the capitol Baton Rouge? Here is some land right on the river and in city limits, It's close to the major roads, Downtown, Airport, and popular shopping districts. I have a few idea's I can make a map on.

That was what I was wondering...closest airport to the other location was Monroe...although would having a park next to the Mississippi be viable? I don't know if it floods down south like it does up in the midwest.

Nope, lived here for almost 15 years and it not once has flooded. The plan for it is that it could also serve as a cruise port; kinda taking Port Disney and re designing it.

I have always thought an area on the American West/National parks would be pretty cool...a valley of rock work maybe like the CarsLand stuff...and then all the architecture be like the National Park service architecture.

But I was always pretty fascinated with the Disney's America concept.

I actually think that putting a Disney Park in southern Missouri (around Branson) would be a good idea. While Silver Dollar City has been there for years, they wouldn't be a major competitor with a Disney Park because they are based around extremely different themes. Branson already has tons of shows and attractions to pull visitors down to the area, and Disney would complement them greatly in my opinion.

The problem with Branson is that the park would have to close in the winter. As we have seen with Disneyland Paris that is not a very popular feature. To add to that the Branson area is already a popular tourist attraction and Disney is known for making them, not placing parks in them. Louisiana is logistically and financially a great choice for Disney.

Well, I was kind of thinking a "non-Disney" park. Why couldn't a group create a park with original stories and rides?

I mean, anyone could have come up with Mystic Manor...that wasn't Disney IP or anything.

The trouble would be...how to get young kids buy in without the library of IP to exploit.
