Why no camera flash/video warning spiel on Tower of Terror?

I've recently been riding the Tower of Terror pretty often and noticed that I've never heard any spiels about not taking flash pictures or using a video camera. Same goes for Mission:Space and Test Track (and others.)

Why is this "warning" not given in the Tower of Terror? It seems like flash/video lights could ruin the effects and ambiance of the attraction.

And just out of curiosity, won't using nightvision show up as a bright light to those monitoring the elevator vehicles because their cameras also use IR? Especially because the IR transmitter on the videocamera would be pointed in the direction of the monitoring cameras. Couldn't this effect how well they're able to view and monitor the passengers?

In most of my experiences, little to no passengers took flash pictures; a couple of people used their video cameras, but I've never seen someone try to use their video light (thankfully) on the attraction.

Well, your bellhop is to tell you that there will be no photos or videotaping during your stay. Some forget and leave it out, but they usually get it in. :)

And on those attractions, coasters and other thrill rides, they probably ASSUME that people have SOME common sense (which we know not all do). Most people would keep things like cameras strapped in and contained on rides like those, to keep them from flying away.

I HATE people who use flash photography or lighted-video. I seriously feel violent toward them, and would LOVE to take their camera and destroy it!

My experiences have been to the contrary. Not usually; always. I have ridden many times, getting many different bellhops each with a different personality. And I have never, from what I recall, heard anything about cameras/video.

Sometimes the bellhop says nothing (other than the seatbelt spiel), sometimes they say something standard like "please drop in again soon," and sometimes they say something completely original and creative. But I haven't heard anything about cameras/photography yet.

I like to have my camera ready for daytime shots looking down from the top of the drop shaft (many others can be seen in albums on this site.)

Since there's a recorded spiel that plays before boarding the elevator (activated by the CM), you'd think they would have included the camera issue into that script if it was in fact something that they intended on informing all guests about.

*But that still doesn't answer the question about the other similar attractions.

I was going to say that about the common sense. Anyway, regarding the second statement, you would really hate my dad. Then again, at least he took no flash pictures in the Haunted Mansion. He took pictures in almost every dark ride he's been on, except for JII original,HM,Indiana Jones, and Dinosaur. We have a lot of It's a Small World, Horizons, and World of Motion shots.

I would love to get ahold of some good quality images from Horizons, but everything online is too low quality to do anything with.

PM me if you are able to make reprints or quality scans of prints. I'd be willing to pay for a few reprints of that attraction. I was never that photo-savvy back when it was open.

Timekeeper, when (if) you get those pics, let me know. I'll give you full quality hosting for the digital versions. (up to 5 MB a picture)

As for ToT... I'm amazed that you never had a CM who mentioned Videotaping and cameras. You've just had really good luck. ;)

I didn't hear it either actually. We went on it 4 times our last trip and not one bellhop said it, so I took my camera on, and from my seat (no additional lighting) have that sequence where the qhosts disappear to the window shattering on film. We love it and it's been great advertising for the ride to friends and family (who aren't such Disneyworld freaks). Like you - Timekeeper - I hate it when folks break the rules on that one. If I'm close enough, I make a sport of asking them nicely to put it away or turn it off and if they don't, try to sneak my hand/head in front of the lens. ;) Hey - break the rules - deal with the consquences. If they had ever mentioned no videotaping, I never would have turned my camera on. Yes, I was smart enough to turn it off after the window shattered and hang on!

I Never Noticed, Because I Never Pay Attention To Them! Well, That's Because It's Common Sense, And You Hear It Alot On Every Other Attraction.. But Still Yet, They Should Put The Warning There.. 'Cause There's Nothing Worse Than Having The Magic Wasted By An Obnoxious Guest..

Common?

WDW is the tourist capital of the world, right? Well, when you get guests from around the world and from varying langues and cultures, what exactly - then - is "common"?

We eat turkey legs in the streets near shops and rides, but in parts of Japan it's considered innapropriate and rude to eat in public ...and doing so will get you many funny looks from the locals.

Speaking of asians, the Travel Channel made note of how "camera savvy" they are. Shutterbugs who take pictures of anything and everything. May not be used to the idea that some people (rides) may want to actually prohibit photography. (Blasphemy, right? Heh heh.)

I guess things aren't so "common" after all.

Video Cameras

My career is in TV, so I enjoy having video documentation of all the rides I can get my camera on. I've taken my cam on Tower of Terror, but not recently. I also got the sequence of the hotel floor into the starfield perfectly... people do love that! It was a bit dark in the 5th dimension floor, and the drop was very interesting... but I never use the light on the camera or take flash pictures, so I'm not intrusive. Last weekend I had my friend's disposable camera in my hand ready to get a shot from the top of the tower when the bellhop said to me after we were strapped in "sir just remember there's no flash photography in the hotel." (don't worry, I didn't... I took a regular shot when we got to the top, and it was light outside!) In the past few months, when I've been riding it regularly, that's the only warning I've heard on the topic.

But, as far as the common sense thing goes... it's pretty easy to hold a camera sturdy during the drops after you've been on it a few times (say as opposed to Rock and Roller Coaster or Mission Space where you're way too restricted).

Timekeeper, I don't know if you or others would be interested in this but on Ebay right now, (ending in 6 hours as of the time of this post) someone has up for auction a 2 disc DVD on Horizons and Carousel of Progress, the starting bidding price is $15.00 but you can also do a Buy it Now for $21.00 both with shipping in the U.S. of $4.95. Just do a search for Horizons on Ebays main page, they have I think 4 or 5 up for bids, hope this helps.
