Why isn't Paint the Night returning to DCA?

I'm excited for the MSEP to return this summer, but Paint the Night is my favorite. I've heard it's expensive to run (which I don't understand), but are they just afraid of not enough of an audience for it? Help me understand! I hope it's not scrapped forever...

It makes no sense. It was the best parade Disneyland had done in decades. It electrified (pardon the pun) the parade route in either Anaheim park it performed in, but I particularly liked it in DCA.

The only reason it apparently has gone to Yesterland is because it's not cheap to run (what in this life is cheap if it's good, besides In-N-Out?), but because the man solely responsible for not wanting to pay for it anymore has alopecia, we probably aren't allowed to make fun of him for cancelling Paint The Night...

I don’t think anyone outside of Disney knows, even though it still feels new PTN is 7 years old so it may be financial as TP said, it’s probably do for some serious TLC.

I‘m more curious about Magic Happens, it’s brand spanking new, only ran a couple weeks before the shutdown and there’s been no news. DL has a ton of good parade options, I enjoy MSEP but it’s the last one I expected to be back first.

I doubt money is the only reason- if their surveys showed that it increases attendance/satisfaction/spend for the park significantly than it'd be running. Fantasmic isn't cheap either and they're rebuilding the show instead of letting it rot.

I really don't understand it. Why would it cost more to run vs the Electrical Parade?

It's so much better and is a great successor to the Electrical Parade. Please let the Electrical Parade die. Its had farewell tours for 25 years now, it's like the Rolling Stones, it's a complete joke.

I was always under the impression that paint the night had a bit more performers in it than other parades. Staffing is an issue right now so to me it makes sense that they would go with a parade that can have a minimal amount of performers in it and still look like it's supposed to (the electrical parade).

We also need to consider the fact that Disney has worked itself to a corner because it gave into a bunch of idiots and it can no longer perform the finale as it originally was due to the music consisting of a well orchestrated and extremely upbeat version of zip-a-dee doo dah that made people smile.

I think they could still have paint the night with less performers if staffing is a concern. How many light up women dressed as jellyfish do you need anyways?

That is so sad to hear about zip a dee doo dah. It's one of the signature songs of the entire company.

I’m starting to believe that Disney never had intentions on running PtN too much past the 60th.
Which is a shame, because IIRC MiceChat had mentioned it had the highest guest satisfaction ratings of any 60th offering by a landslide. Pretty much everyone loved the parade, and it was very easy to look past its flaws (at least for me) because it was so well done.

On a semi-related note, the reason I've heard floated around as to why management has been hesitant to bring back PTN is because apparently the costumes have caused injuries for performers. But if that were the case, I don't see why they couldn't invest some more money on an obviously successful parade to redesign some of the more problematic costumes (I've heard the fairy dancers, coral dancers, and candelabra dancers have all had issues with their lit panels on their backs/necks, but can't really verify them so who knows).

This was the rumor I heard around the various sites back when it went into hiatus. The rumor was they were trying to rework it so they could bring it back safely.

However given there is a union involved I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't approve the changes and that is what has lead to the permanent hiatus.

It’s funny though how Hong Kong had no problems running their version and using the costumes. I understand there is different rules over there though.
I know they have CM unions over there too, but the contract might not be as strict in this regard.

Basically only Disney knows why PtN is not running at Disneyland.

Might be a good topic to bring up at the next shareholder meeting.

Maybe once Hong Kong announces over social media their PTN is returning, which I’d assume it will return once their able to, that might spark some interest in the US version. Another possibility is Disneyland is deliberately holding off on PTN for the company’s 100th next year.

View attachment 629772All I know is that it’s less than one month until I’m called a “dreamer of all ages” at the beginning of the Main Street Electric Parade! Can’t wait for the following remakes!
Jokes aside, I don't mind the use of "Dreamers of all ages". To me as long as its a nice introduction I don't care if they want to take out terms that might seem outdated in today's society.

That would be a good reason to bring it back, especially since it was introduced at Disneyland as a parade for its anniversary.

I would however hope they would change it to be less Pixar focused and more Disney over the years focused, including adding Marvel and Star Wars.

My biggest issue is that 'Dreamers of all ages' sounds significantly less formal than 'ladies and gentleman boys and girls'. I'd like to at least pretend Disneyland is still a respectable endeavor.

I'm not saying the whole park needs to have the level of refinement Club 33 does, but having hints of formality in the offerings helps make the experience feel more premium.
