Why is 7 dwarfs mine train line so long

Haven't been in over 20 years :)....going in 380 something days :)

So I've been looking at wait times on my phone occasionally (ok, more than occasionally!) on my phone and noticed that the mine train is 70-100 minutes a lot of the time. Is it mainly because only one train can go at one time?

It is a glorified Barnstormer. Its a fun ride, but not worth waiting more than 30 minutes. There is no ride worth waiting more than 30 minutes in my opinion. Depending on what you want to do, either FP it or go first thing in the morning. As the stampede heads right, we went left. We did Peter Pan, Pooh, Teacups, Barnstormer, Ariel, and Buzz. Then we met our party at the Indy cars. By avoiding the herd, we were able to do a bulk of the rides. As the herd started crowding Fantasyland and Tomorrowland further, we went to Frontierland and Adventureland. We were able to do all of the rides there with minimal wait and multiple times on them.

The attraction is new and appeals to everyone so naturally the lines are going to be long. The attraction is short and does suffer from low hourly capacity, so I recommend riding early or with FASTPASS+. I disagree with the person who said its nothing more than another Barnstormer. The mine train has better theming and show scenes and provides a much smoother ride.

Anything new is going to be popular, and it's billed as a family ride so all ages will enjoy it unlike something like Expedition Everest which is a much larger coaster. We go with a plan to avoid lines as much as possible, but I always expect that there will be at least a few things that we may have to wait longer than we'd like. It's Disney World, it's not like no one else is going to be there but your party.

The real reason it's so long is its low capacity because the ride itself is so SHORT.

Take Splash Mountain for example. The track is so long, how many boats can be "on the ride" at a given time? You can't run a rollercoaster, particularly with a short track the same way.

Just going from memory, I think Splash Mountain around 2500 guests per hour.

7DMT is something like 1500.

@marni1971 might be able to confirm.

Because it is the newest ride in the MK. Although it is short and not really thrilling it is state of the art and has one of the best show scenes Disney has ever created. I'm almost positive it runs more than one train at a time but not sure exactly how many.

IMO it's good for 1-2 Fastpasses over a week's trip, but I wouldn't wait in the standby line for it. Thankfully it seems to be pulling crowds from Space and Splash Mountains. During President's week, by 9:30, Seven Dwarves had 90 minute waits posted on the standby line.

Ride length is irrelevant to ride capacity.

All you need to do is count rider dispatchment, per certain time. It doesn't matter how long they then stay on the ride for.

As for why the wait is so long? Because silly TWDC along the way repeated the very mistake they actually set out to solve to begin with, ending up with an under capacity Snow being build to replace a Snow that was closed for being under capacity. A Snow White ride right in the middle of the most prestigious spot in all of WDW will attract the crowds by default, so either have no ride there or one with massive capacity. (Or five with low capacity, but that is apparantly only for DL)

I don't agree 100%, the longer the ride, the more vehicles can be dispatched. A large roller coaster at peak capacity usually can run no more than 3 vehicles at a time (loading, lift hill, riding). At say 40 riders/car, that's appox. 600 riders/hour. Because SM is a longer ride, more rafts can be deployed (last trip, I found Disney had too many rafts deployed and we we banging into each other). At a continuously loading ride like Spaceship Earth, my guess is about 40 guests/minute can be dispatched, for a capacity of about 2400/hour.

Hmm, I'm not an expert, but not sure how you can claim that ride length has no impact on ride capacity. It certainly has to.

40 guests dispatched per minute slash 2400/hour remain 40 per minute slash 2400/hour regardless of how long the train of vehicles is - 50 yards, 500 yards, 50 miles.

Capacity per hour is the metric. Total guest absorption is another metric, of some usefulness too, but not in question here.

Tip: If you can't get a Fastpass for it, get in line right before closing time. Once the park is closed, no more Fastpass holders can enter, allowing 100% of the ride's capacity to be devoted to the standby line rather than just 20% as it is throughout most of the day. Even if the line is physically full of people, you will get through in about 20 minutes.

I love the ride I wouldn' skip it all, judge for yourself. It could be about 2 minutes longer if Ihad to find something to complain about.

My only criticism about the ride is its length and actual ride cars. If the ride was even like 30 seconds longer, it would easily have re-ride value. I was at WDW weeks after the ride opened and had 4 FPs for it. After the first ride, I cancelled the other 3. Also, for it being a new state of the art ride, why on Earth make the cars so cramp? I'm 6'1 260lbs with a 38 waist and I was uncomfortable by how small the ride car was.
The cave part with the characters I admit though is Extremely cool
