Why doesn't Disney just pay up for HP?

This is my whole opinion on the whole no Harry Poter ride in WDW:hammer: :brick: As I was watching the 5th movie today(very good BTW) it crossed my mind that there is so amazing potential for a HP ride. Just think all the merchandise Disney could rak in. So why hasn't Disney paid up fo it. They did back in the 80's for Indiana and Star Wars and that paid off so you think they would pay WHATEVER it took. Sorry just needed to vent that off.

Its not the money.

Saw an interview on the BBC last week with JK Rowling in which she said money was not the issue when deciding on the films or selectiing who could build a theme park. The main issue was that JK remaining in control of the characters and how the characters were developed. Perhaps Disney wanted control over these?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:brick: Well thats a couple hundred million dollars Mickey just gave up to Bugs. Who cares about character rights if YOU don't get the rights then YOUR BIGGEST COMPETITION WILL GET IT.:brick: :brick: :brick: Seriously Disney and WDW was beating Universal attendance wise bigtime the past few years and with that they just gave them a free pass back into the running. Iger should have just given JK Rowling a blank check and a blank contract and said "whatever you want just give me the rights".

Uh, Bugs is Six Flags. And yeah, Harry has disapparated from Disney forever. A shame, too. I really think Disney could have done a better job with it than I'm guessing Universal will. I'd certainly prefer it to another Pirates movie attraction or anything based on Narnia. Now, if the one rumor I heard about possibly "Lord of the Rings" coming to Disney World turns out to be true, that could be pretty amazing...if they're willing to spend the money to make it that way.

I'm soooo glad Universal got Potter,I mean don't you realize how great competition is for us the consumers.I'm not a fan of Potter and hope that the Potter island in IOA will have an awesome ride that people will enjoy. If Universal just takes a piece of Disney, you know what that means, a 5th Gate at WDW!!!!

Harry Potter has got a ride when the franchise is beginning to end. Narnia should get one now while the movie franchise is only beginning.

I agree with you that competition is great for the consumer. However, I don't think a 5th Gate will be the response, but adding extra attractions to the existing theme parks, maybe we'll see a new land or another E-ticket or two. A 5th Gate will cannibalise attendance at the 4 existing theme parks - there is still much work to be done at the others.

Disney is very clever at keeping its guests on site - Magical Express, ticketing options, dining plan etc. Should Universal start to steal market share, or cannibalise Disney's market, then I'm sure Disney will become more aggressive and make it even harder for guests to visit off site attractions. The alternative is that the extra people visiting Universal will also make the trip down the road to WDW, in many ways that would be a win-win situation all round.

Ok. I love the Potter series (both book and movies). Will it make me want to run over to USF? No. Why? They keep are going at a two day park and their ads use to be that. One day at the Studios and one day at Islands. But what do they have? They're shutting down BTTF, shut down Kong, Ghostbusters left the building and leaves what? I've looked at their site and they have nothing that will make me run over there.

WDW has all the things I love, reasons to stay within it's area and a way for me to get around without having to get a car and drive. All the other parks will be playing catch-up. Sure they might get their attendance up but will it sustain? All four parks are in the top ten for attendance ear after year. They're not worried.

I have never understood the "we must defeat Universal!" mentality. Seriously, what's the deal? Why on earth would you want Universal gone? Maybe you don't like it.. So what?

I hate to burst people's bubbles, but Universal is working with New Line Cinema (LOTR Trilogy) on Halloween Horror Nights this year. New Line is giving Universal Freddy, Leatherface, and Jason for this year in both Orlando and LA. Both New Line and Universal hope to be working closely with each other from now on. Say goodbye to the LOTR Trilogy.

That being said, they could do something incredible with Narnia if given the time and money. Only time will tell...

Why does everyone assume that whatever Universal is planning to do, Disney would have done better? Yes, overall I think Disney has a better way of doing certain things, but Universal has created things that totally blow anything Disney has out of the water (I still think Spiderman is the best ride; better than ANYTHING at Disney...at least in the US).

Mummy is pretty awesome too and Disney doesn't have anything you can compare it to. Comparing it to Everest is stupid and with that kind of logic I would compare Kraken at Seaworld with Thunder Mountain.

As a whole, I think Disney is better just because of the variety of things to do, entertainment, size, etc etc.... but seriously Universal has created some truly awesome things.... unfortunately not as frequent as Disney.... but Spiderman....come on!!!
