Why are so many opposed to Pixar themed rides and attractions?

It seems to me that many of the posts regarding Pixar themed attractions, i.e. The Living Seas and The Laugh Floor, are tirades against the Pixarization of WDW. Why is this? Why should it matter what an attraction is based on as long as it's a high quality attraction?

I think as long as it's a half decent attraction, then it shouldn't make any difference. I love Pixar and what they stand for not only as an animation studio, but as a company.

I think people have a problem with them because they are what Disney once was in the terms of animated films...I know a couple people who are unsettled because of their success....

Disney and Pixar have teamed up to make some great films. That being said, it doesn't necessarily mean that they should be all over the parks. Buzz Lightyear fits well into Tomorrowland, and Nemo works well with the former Living Seas, but many worry that some decisions (such as the decision to put the Laugh Floor into Tomorrowland) disregard the theming of the area, and are only intended for a quick buck. Aside, from disturbing themed areas, I don't think we want to see too many more of our original classics being replaced by today's Pixar stars (Living Seas > Nemo, Timekeeper > Laugh Floor). While we do look forward to the new attractions, we also hope that Pixar does not "take over" the World. Disney World has several great rides based on classic and current films, but what really makes the World so awe-inspiring are the many original classic attractions (Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Kilamanjaro Safaris, Tower of Terror, Expediton Everest, the list goes on...). At least that is how I feel.

Overall, I think this is a good assessment. I don't like the CHARACTER-ification of WDW. I think that the Pixar characters are some of the best Disney has to offer in recent years (whether that is due to Pixar itself or Disney's shortcomings is another debate). However, there are people that don't feel they have the level of "Disney" as the animated characters. I guess there are (as with everything) multiple perspectives.

To me I think it is that there will be an over kill if there isn't already. Think about Stitch and now Pirates. I love the movie and Stitch is a cute in person character but he is everywhere....they've exploited the Stitch franchise. The same with Pirates, love the attraction since I was a kid and I really like the movies but they are going to overboard with it.

As for Tomorrowland and Pixar not fitting in with the theming....years ago when I frst started with WDW I worked in TL Merchandise. During a homeroom meeting we were told that TL was supposed to be the Future that never was. One manager I clearly remember telling us that we shouldn't be surprised to see TL become a futuristic Fantasyland. With the addition of BUzz, Stitch and Monsters Inc it seems to be going in that direction.

If the attraction is done well and it seems that hey have put thought into it instead of just throwing something in there then I'm okay with any character going into a new attraction.

Its all down to making big bucks -

The children which Disney is aiming at attracting to its parks now have grown up watching Stitch, Buzz, Hopper, Monsters Inc, etc. These kids expect to see the characters and associated rides within the parks.

Its called change - lets hope the traditional Disney can integrate with the modern Disney and still leave WDW as a place that everyone can enjoy

Anything can be over-done, so I find that argument to be just a difference in tastes between individuals.
However, I do think that there is a gut feeling associated with PIXAR characters that for some reason excludes them from other Disney properties. I don't quite understand it. But, I do feel it exists.
My opinion is that over time this will disappear. As more time passes, and the saturation of these characters lessens, I believe the will become more and more a part of the Disney realm as a whole.

Now Disney owns Pixar. Well from what I heard they are making a Toy Story 3 and I heard that they are going to make some more movies with them.

Because they don't know any better and/or care more about their personal preference than the stability and success of TDC.
