My mom and dad, in 1987. I don't remember too much of it (I was very little) but we have some really sweet pictures of us from that trip that I am so glad I have.
As a child I had always watched Walt on TV and dreamt of a trip to WDW. But my father only got 2 weeks vacation and that vacation time was always spent going back to his parents farm in VA where we would visit and help out. My parents and siblings would return home after 2 weeks but I would spent the rest of my school vacation there helping out on the farm. I would return home just before school started again. My fathers job didnt pay a lot, they struggled to make ends meet, and there were medical bills to pay so they could/would never afford a trip to FL
Years later after I married, my DW ended up being diagnosed with MS. After having a major flare up and losing the use of her legs and right arm, she was in the hospital rehab unit for 3 months. Her parents offerred to pay for our first trip for 10 days when she got out of the hospital and could travel in a w/c. So DW, DS and I went in December of that year, staying at the Poly. The trip was a wonderful experience, a dream come true. The CM's treated my DW with such kindness, we loved the parks and all Disney had to offer, we knew we had much more we wanted to see and do, that we decided that WDW would be our vacationing spot whenever we could afford to do it. Ive worked hard and been fortunate enough to be able to give my DS and DW many trips back. Every trip has been a fabulous experience.
