White Box?

I`ve decided to get the Canon 28-135 lens. On Amazon they have two versions for sale. One is a hundred dollars cheaper because it comes in a white box instead of the retail box. It seems to me that this a big difference in price just because of the box. Any ideas?

This is typically what happens when a lens is sold on its own, but was actually part of a kit (ie Body and lens). I'm assuming this is not Amazon selling it, but a third party on Amazon's site?
