Howdy!!

How is Whispering Canyon at dinnertime for DSs, 5 and 3? Is it too loud? I don't want them to freak out and want to leave. Is there any dinner time better than others?

Thanks a whole big bunch in advance.

If your kids can't handle loud noise then I would skip this as it can get pretty rowdy there. My kids love it and have been going since they were 4 and 20 months old. Its nice to know that they don't have to be quiet the entire time (that noise is encouraged) and it makes it easier on everyone. They have pony races for the kids to run and blow off a bit of steam and they all get certificates. They also have coloring pages to keep them occupied. My kids also like eating out of the big skillet...just spoon some on the dish and away they went.

If you are worried then go a bit earlier in the evening before it gets too crowded. And don't forget to ask for ketchup and extra straws. :lookaroun

It does get loud, but I don't think in a bad way. It is a ton of fun and there are going to be lots of activities for them to enjoy. Having gone with Kids that age, I don't think you will have a problem.

Thank you, both. You've helped so much and made this an easier decision to try to include it in our planning.

Ketchup and extra straws... I saw what happened to that guy on Samantha Brown's Great Hotels episode.

They yell out what someone asks for and everyone brings their bottles of ketchup, etc. Soon, the whole table is full of stuff.

The restaurant is a fun, gag type place. Depending on your server and what not different fun things will happen during your meal.

I can't ewait to take the kids to this one. Other than Ketchup and straws, are there anything else I can have the kids do to get them embarassed?

There are plenty of things that just happen...however don't go in there expecting anything. The more you try to set the stage usually, it seems the less they want to do. There is no fun if there isn't the element of surprise. I have been there 4 times and all but one of those times was great and we didn't do anything that we wouldn't do at a normal restaurant. Just go, enjoy your meal, expect a good time...but don't do anything to make it out of the ordinary.

DH - biscuits and gravy, sausage, and waffles
me - eggs, biscuits, no gravy and bacon - definitely bacon
DS#1 - little eggs, biscuit, bacon and maybe gravy
DS#2 - bring out the wheelbarrow.

When we were there, this large group came in towards the end of our meal and were seated next to us. They had obviously been there before, becasue before they were even all seated the three kids that were with them (probablly between the ages of 10-12 years old) started yelling for ketchup and crayons. They did it over and over again, at the top of their lungs, and their waitress had not even been to their table yet.:hammer: It was so obnoxious and annoying to us, I can't imagine how annoyed the waitstaff gets at people like this. I was glad to see that the waitstaff and the customers just ignored them. It does take the fun out of it when someone is intentionally trying to get attention!

Wow that's so annoying.

I've never had good luck at Whispering Canyon. I always get the servers who don't care and seem annoyed that they even have to bring food out. They don't get into it at all. I don't always have the best luck at 50's Prime Time either.

That's a bummer you guys have had not fun experiences here - it sounds like a total blast. Laura, hope your upcoming trip is magical.

My kids just love this place!

Last time we were there, DS age 10 said to me in a quiet voice, "Oh, no, I need ketchup!". :ROFLOL:

Yes, I made him ask for it...... :goodnevil

We have seen them put people "in jail", make adults run around on a pony singing Happy Birthday, have had straws thrown at us, etc. Our first trip my DH drank his soda really fast so he asked for another....our server brought out a HUGE glass with a giant straw, plus a "Fast Pass" for the restroom....it was too funny. I have a great picture of him drinking from the mug. (I swear, it was like a 1/2 gallon!).

Like stated by others, just let the fun happen.....your family will love it.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for all of your sharing your experiences. Now, the big question, should we go here for DS#2's 3rd birthday? We have so many options, it's making my head spin (what a problem to have).
