Which is better: Sunday or Monday?

We will be there in a couple of weeks for a very short trip, and will only have two full days to spend at theme parks. The one Disney park we're going to is Animal Kingdom because my girlfriend has never been there. She also has never been to Universal, so we're spending one day there and attempting the very challenging task of seeing both parks in one day (I've always held to the position this can't really be done...but I'm gonna do my best because I have no other choice).

I haven't decided yet whether we should get an Express Pass, but I'm leaning toward doing it. I'd also like to go on a day that has the least chance of encountering big crowds. Our choices are either Sunday or Monday. Right now, the plan is to do DAK on Sunday because Monday is an EMH day that morning. That leaves Monday to do Universal.

My question: Is this the best approach? Will Monday likely be less crowded than Sunday would have been? Or should I re-think the plan and go Sunday instead?

Monday should be less crowded and depending on when you are here in Otown, you might not need Express Passes. It just depends.

I'd keep tabs on the waits in the week before your visit over at IOACENTRAL.COM. They have a live wait time page on their site for all the Universal rides.

Monday and I would wait until you arrive to purchase the Express passes. If you find the wait times are too long for you, purchase the EP's at either park.

Thanks everyone for the advice! We just got back last night (after a loooooong delay in the airport because of that FAA issue yesterday). We did end up going on Monday and it was great! We started with IOA because we wanted to get in all the outdoor rides first, just in case a storm came along. Hulk and Dueling Dragons were both practically walk ons. We did DD two times in a row and got on immediately both times. Then we had an early lunch at Mythos, which was great! I had never eaten there before. Although I noticed they no longer have the big banner outside that states they've been voted the best theme park restaurant. After that, we rode Cat in the Hat, and then the crowds started to pick up. So we went ahead and got the 2-park Express Pass which was about $33 with tax. It was definitely worth it! The Spider Man attraction showed a 75 minute wait, and we were on and off the ride in well under 10 minutes. It started to get almost unbearably hot, so we hit the three water rides (Bilge Rat Barges, Ripsaw Falls and JP River Adventure) one after another. All three of those rides had long waits because everyone was trying to escape the heat. It was so nice being able to walk right on.

US seemed less crowded that IOA. The pass came in handy there, but even the Mummy didn't have a very long line to begin with.

It was a great time! Thanks again, everyone, for confirming that Monday was definitely the best day to go!
