Which Floor?

We did 5th floor concierge... definately worth it. We stayed next door to the vice-presidential suite, which gave a great view from the balcony (we got a sweeping view of the savannah, we fortunately didn't have the 'looking out and seeing other rooms directly across from you' view). You may experience more intimate viewing of the animals from lower floors, but the view is still breaktaking from the 5th.
We thoroughly enjoyed the concierge service and highly recommend it.

Meega, nala kwishta!
We did 2nd and 5ths floors over the years.

2nd will get you really close to the animals, but you cannot really see the expanse of the whole savanna, and you end up really seeing the animals that would frequent around your balcony.

5th is very cool. You get to see the whole savanna, but you are a higher, thus not as close to the animals. And I would suggest a 2x converter or zoom lense for you camera if you want close up photos. Not that you need them, but I know my 3x zoom on my digital was never enough, I wanted to be a bit closer.

But even tjoughyou higher, I think the 5th floor view are better, plus it was a deluxe room too.

It was also concierge on our last two trips too. Concierge is a pampering thing to me. We like to be pampered on our vacations. And we like to take the exclusive AKL concierge tours (the Sunrise and Sunset safari), so we had to do concierge. :D

Have fun!

Let me weigh in with my opinion, which based entirely on "second-hand" expereinces.

First, as to the concierge, I say "no way". If you book a concierge room, they will not guarantee you a savanah room. You could end up with a pool view. Who wants to pay top dollar for a room at the AKL and not be able to see the animals? Not me. That's why when we go in a week we will have a deluxe room, no concierge.

That brings me to the next point, and your question: Which floor?
We struggled with this. Getting a deluxe room mean you are getting a room on the 5th or 6th floors. As indicated in some of the above responses, you are obviously further from the animals than the lower floors. For us, we ultimately decided on the higher floors and here's why. We figure we would rather have the more expansive view from our room. If we want closer views of the animals, we can always frequent the public viewing areas which are ground level (or close to ground level).

Hope this helps.
