Where's Roy?

With the Disney/Pixar announcements, along with the discussion of the role of John Lassieter and the departure of David Stainton from WDFA, it seems like the universe is back in order, but has anyone heard/seen anything from Roy Disney on this news? This would seem to be exactly what he championed, and if some of the past press accounts are accurate, Roy seemed to have a very good rapport with both John and Steve Jobs. I'm curious if he's weighed-in on what's occurred.

Roy Disney applauds Disney for Pixar acquisition

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Roy Disney, nephew of company founder Walt Disney, Tuesday praised Walt Disney Co.'s decision to buy Pixar Animation Studios Inc. for $7.4 billion in stock.

"Animation has always been the heart and soul of the Walt Disney Company, and it is wonderful to see Bob Iger and the company embrace that heritage by bringing the outstanding animation talent of the Pixar team back into the fold," Disney said in a statement.

Disney, late in the career of former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, launched a campaign to oust Eisner. Eisner was succeeded by longtime protege Bog Iger.

Some think Roy failed, sold out and faded into the sunset.

I think Roy won and played a part in what happened. Everything he wanted pretty much happended, Jobs playing a role in Disney and Eisner gone.

Roy signed an agreement to stay out of the way. His bumbled takeover attempt back in the early 1980's didn't work and his most recent attempt almost lost the entire farm again. You better hope he's out of the picture, if you like Disney.

I heard Roy was busy trying to come up with ways to get back at Eisner...
Well Eisner ego took a hit with this deal. Not only could he not get the Pixar deal done, but now his stock status has droped a notch. I'm not sure where he stood with the Individual stock before but Jobs now owns more stock then him

Well, Roy is working as a creative consultant for Disney, and is no longer an outcast from the studios like he used to be under Eisner's reign.

Roy currently serves as a consultant for the company with the title Director Emeritus. Translated that means, "don't let the door hit you in the rear end on your way out".

Agree..:sohappy:

I don't think we need any more shenanigans like those of the past two years.

Anyway, I'm wondering if Roy's really gone: wasn't he "Head of Animation" or something before he quit? (from what I understand he was pretty uninvolved)

Guess he'll go back to his usual duties: erasing Jeffrey Katzenberg from every 84-'94 DVD re-issue

Yep!
He was the "created" Head of Walt Disney Feature Animation... just to keep him in the company...
